The game's story is unfinished and never will be, they abandoned this project and started making others. I really enjoyed my time with this but I cannot recommend an unfinished and abandoned project.
Why do I hear boss music?
"Down to Hell" is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. It's a handheld (Nintendo Switch)/console game that's also been put on Steam as a bit of an afterthought, as it's very much designed for the handheld/console gaming audience. This "dark and broody" horror themed platformer/brawler has a fantasy/horror theme and some fairly low production values, but then we shouldn't expect much from Nintendo Switch games when we're on PC. They know Steam is for PC games, right? This game has been translated from some other language into English... badly. If this was done through Google Translate, Google Translate should feel ashamed of itself. Regardless, the language in this game is broken and will put off a lot of gamers. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals. The controls and game handling are notably very clunky and unsmooth here. It's janky and unsatisfying to play... and any experienced gamer will tell you, the handling, responsiveness and general gameplay feel of the control scheme must be well polished for this kind of game to succeed. Unfortunately, this is something the developer seems to have phoned in, with little to no apparent gameplay testing. They dropped the ball on this one. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. Because this is designed for handheld/portable gaming appliances, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the low power handheld gaming appliances that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate compromises and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was a second thought for the mobile game developers. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for low power handhelds forces upon a game. While this might run well on a Steam Deck, we must remember the vast majority of gamers here are gaming on PC. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. "Down to Hell" didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is "THE BEGINNING", for starting the game, trivial to get, but less than 28 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, even the people who own this game weren't interested in it. The poor quality of this game is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 5 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? "Down to Hell" has the insane price of $10 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. For comparison, the $10 asking price for this game could get you games like "Stellaris", "7 Days to Die" or "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.
So, before saying anything, let me say that I do not recommend this game *YET*. The game is bad, but has potential, lets keep in mind that it's Early Access. (EDIT: nvm it isn't on Early Access anymore. Guess it's refund time.) What I found good: The Boss Music The Art Style The Concept What I found bad: Repetitive and boring enemies ( this could really help with that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEC7OrvULBs ) Little to no hit-stun/reaction from enemies when struck Parry mechanic is wack Platforming is boring, 1 shot plant-trap thing that is hard to see, etc Blood Rush/Dash mechanic is clunky, the dash combos don't work Animations look clunky af, the guy looks like a mugen character
I got interested in this game due to it's art style and overall setting and lore, it reminded me a lot of Berserk (I think it was a little inspired by it). It's a shame that the game has serious problems, the combat is really simplistic, and bugs are everywhere. In my time with it I saw characters with dialogs changed with one another, a boss kept spamming me in a way that was impossible for me to defend myself or even get up (cheap) and another boss just stood there without even attacking me, waiting for me to kill her. Yet the biggest problem with this game is that THE GAME IS NOT FINNISHED. I played until the end of chapter 2 and I got the incredible message "Chapter 3 coming soon". I didn't judge the game despite all this but this one should be a very early acess title and it's not even marked as one. Despite all this I'm still interested to see if the developer will actually finish the game. I might come back to it in the future and see if patches will make it better. It's a real shame since it feels that it could have potential and I really like the soundtrack, but for now, it's a definitive no, even on sale.

Büyük beklentiye kapılmayın ama idare eder
