Everything is very slow and very clunky, it feels like moving in slow motion. The bosses are definetly quantity over quality, there is not much thought put into their move sets. The healing refill time is atrociously slow, even the mobs are clunky and slow. It is not the worst game in the world but it is the worst game they ever made, ds1 and ds3 are infinetly better made despite ds1 being half finished and ds3 map being extremely linear. It even messed up the lore. The world is well made at least. Don't bother with this game if you lack patience and cannot stand slow clunky mechanics.

Overview: The obvious best souls game (Peak Souls 2). Demon Souls, Ds1, Ds3, Bloodborne, Sekiro and Elden Ring all cower in fear of its brilliant divine light of ultimate holiness. It is literally every game ever made and actively appeals to every human on planet earth. If for some reason you do not like this game or it did not appeal to you in more ways than one, please contact your local therapist for help and or join rehab for further assistance. Those of sound mind should realistically consider buying at least four separate copies of the game (full price) to ensure you are doing your part and supporting these beautiful game developers. Buying even more copies of Peak Souls 2 is greatly appreciated, but four should be enough to show your true faith in this game. I was unfortunately lost before playing this genuinely perfect masterpiece and now I personally own twenty-three separate copies of the game across all consoles and platforms. (REMINDER: If you are on the fringe about buying this game or not, remember to allocate at least 500$ USD in order to pay for the three extra copies you will need to buy after the first purchase. The remaining money will be used to buy extra copies on top of the four main copies you have already purchased. If you cannot allocate the funds to buy the copies, please pawn off anything you are able to sell in your house in order to make the purchases. Remember: A car or your prized possessions will eventually wear down and break, while Peak Souls 2 is eternal, consider your options carefully). Review: The PvE is unmatched in both progression and mechanics, and I do not even have to comment on the PvP as, just like everything else in the game, it is the best it has ever been and will be for the rest of the foreseeable future in modern gaming. Conclusion: This concludes the objectively best review of Peak Souls 2. NOT RECOMMENDED I am neither a hater nor a glazer of this game. Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin isn't as bad as the haters say, but it is clearly not as good as the glazers claim either. Honestly, I would feel so guilty recommending this game to anyone. I really tried to play with an open mind and 100 AGL, but this game is still an example of a bad Souls game. The director made questionable, unnecessary changes that make it feel like he genuinely hates the players.
Artificial Difficulty & Quantity Over Quality & Level Design
The game has very cheap difficulty/level design, simply placing enemies everywhere to gank you or ambush you from any corner. They overused ambushes so much that it feels so cliche/annoying when it happens. The worse thing is that there is barely any variety, it’s usually just a copy-paste of one or two enemy types. Their aggro range is insanely long, and once you are detected in their range, they will chase you until either you die or they die. Speaking of gank enemies, most of the base-game boss fights are poorly designed gank fights. They tried to copy Ornstein & Smough but failed miserably. The bosses themselves aren't actually hard, they are disappointingly easy, but the runbacks through ganking enemies and terrible environments made me lose my sanity. If you try to just rush to the boss room, the fog walls and doors don't give you immediate i-frames, meaning you’ll likely get killed before you even make it through. For the first time ever in a Souls game, I had to spend nearly two hours clearing an entire level 12 times just to despawn the enemies at a castle on a lava lake ON TOP OF A WINDMILL connected by AN ELEVATOR??!
Clunky Mechanics
The target lock-on is completely unreliable. What is the point of locking onto an enemy if you can still miss your attack because attack direction in this game follows your movement stick even if when you locked-on an enemy? If I wanted to attack in a different direction, I wouldn't be using the lock-on feature in the first place. Furthermore, Estus flasks slowly restore HP over time while you're actively trying to manage a gank squad. On top of that, every time you die, you lose 5% of your max HP until it caps out at a 50% loss (or 25% if you use the Ring of Binding). Why? Aren't Souls games supposed to encourage you to learn through dying? And now you don't want me to die, forcing me to use Human Effigy, an item that is also used for multiplayer, to recover my max HP?. It is funny that there is an achievement "This is Dark Souls" awarded the first time you die in this game, so finally do you want me to die in this game or not? Even the hitboxes feel completely off. Despite leveling ADP to increase my AGL, I would still occasionally take damage from attacks that I had clearly dodged.
Progression & Storytelling
The storytelling and progression become incredibly confusing, especially in the second half of the game. I never would have figured out how to progress after getting the King's Ring and defeating the Throne Watcher/Defender without a guide. It turns out I had to backtrack to two other King's Ring doors that I had completely forgotten about, because the very last time I saw them was over 15+ hours ago. Then, you have to return to a boss room you already cleared just to fight the final boss that relies on a cheap curse effect and repeated few attacks.
Some goods
The game isn't pure garbage though, there is still some beauty to be found in it. Majula is easily my favorite hub area in the entire series (even though I don't like some npcs' attitude when I just have a look at their wares without buying anything). They also introduced some genuinely great quality-of-life features, such as Lifegems, the ability to respec your stats, unlocking bonfire warping right from the start, and the Bonfire Ascetic mechanic.
Final thought
Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin isn't a completely terrible game that isn't worth your money; it is just so bad compared to Dark Souls 1: Remastered and Dark Souls 3. Ever since Elden Ring was released, Souls games rarely go on deep sales they used to. My suggestion is to wait until this game goes on a sale, buy it, and try it for yourself since it is also a Fromsoftware's Souls game anyway. Thanks to the 10+ MINUTES LONG UNSKIPPABLE END CREDITS, I had plenty of time to reflect on how much this game tortured my mental health. That reflection is exactly why I decided to write this review. Edit: This game does not have cloud save, so manually back up your save files regularly or you will lose everything after reinstalling Windows or switching to a new PC.
Once upon a time, a cursed undead visited three witches. Like the countless undeads before, he was given a human effigy and sent to Majula. But one day he returned and, not saying anything, ran through their hut. And then again. Day and night, summer and winter, he continued to run. As time passed, the witches stopped paying attention, leaving doors wide open. No matter what, the restless hollow would just emerge from the bonfire and continue his mindless marathon. At the rare moments of lucidity, he tried to remember what he was trying to accomplish. "I need to kill falconers. No, there was something else. Ah yes, the sun medals! I need to collect 30 sun medals... But why?" Thank you Dark Souls 2, for teaching me the dread of hollowing.
Pase por el mismo infierno jugando este juego, me parecio una tortura compardo con el DS1. Y el platino de esto jaja, fue un tormento conseguirlo. Pero apesar de eso lo disfrute mucho, hermoso juego "que hermosa es Majula".
Okay, I'm usually not leaving reviews on games, but not this time. First of all, I want to say that this game is like a mentally ill bastard, you need to treat it condescendingly, and that's how you'd probably enjoy it. I am a person who decided to beat the souls series with early games, so my hands didn't touch ds3 and Elden Ring yet (the only games I completed are ds1 and platinumed Bloodborne, also want to mention that I haven't played the original ds2 release, so you won't see me comparing one to another). Well, let's begin with the cons, which you may already hear somewhere: humanity is now a resource that is now more useful than it was in the first game, since you can restore your maximum HP. You are getting rid of 5% of your health bar after every dead, until you get a cut of 50% of it (there's a ring which lets you save 75% instead of 50%, so that's not really a problem for me). Many people will find this annoying, but let's remember demon's souls where you could restore maximum HP only after defeating boss, and after one death they instantly cut a half of your HP until you defeat another one (there was also a ring called cling ring, which lets you play with 75% of your heath bar), and I think they were inspired by this idea, which I think isn't really bad, since you can find the humanity in almost every place in this game (by the end of the game I reached the max amount of 99 units). What I think is kind of wrong is that when you are turning hollow, you look like a zombie, and not like a hollow from the first game, which I think is a little downgrade from the art direction that I liked on previous game. Also want to mention that in this game you will see the weakest bosses in the series, so if you play souls games only to challenge yourself by playing against bosses... Well, you'd better to try out Bloodborne. Almost all bosses in the game are very forgettable and the OST is not something you'd listen apart from this game (there are exceptions. Despite Aldia is a very weak boss, he has an interesting lore and theme song, at least in my opinion). Some people can complain about having two methods of healing, but I think that's how the game wants you to play it, it lets you do more experiments and don't be really afraid of them, because even if you have 99 units of lifegems and 12 estuses, they are restoring your hp very slowly, so you need to know in which moments it is safe to restore your HP. And I think it is a very interesting concept. You need to manage your stamina, you need to manage all the fights and play them like a real strategist (artistic exaggeration of course, but I think it's true in some way). DLC bosses are very fun (despite some lazy copypasta ones and I don't really want to talk about them here, just know that they exist, unfortunately), Sir Alonne is probably the best boss you can meet in this game, he reminded me of Bloodborne bosses and Artorias from the first game's DLC "Prepare To Die Edition". His theme is wonderful too, it's very memorable. What I think is fun in this game is the PVP. People can invade you whether you have humanity or not. I think it's wonderful, since in the first game you could just become hollow to not let anyone invade your world, and here you most likely will experience being invaded, fighting against a person and understand who really is stronger here. The PVP is better than in the first game by a lot, since all the gameplay in PVP you had there before was about either parrying the opponent, or spin around him in hope to backstab. In this game you have much more sorceries, really huge amount of weapons, and you can use two different weapons in both your hands! None of their games I played had this! You can play around these mechanics for a very, very long time! Also, parrying and backstabbing is way harder than in the first game, which is making the gameplay more interesting. I also want to mention that the world is not connected like in ds1. World connection in ds1 is phenomenal, all locations in there are very, very memorable and most of them (yeah, I'm looking at you, Lost Izalith) are wonderful gameplay-wise too. In this game, the world is not connected, and locations became less memorable than before, which is very sad, but it's still interesting to explore the areas. While I find this game weaker than ds1 and bloodborne in some aspects, I want to say that I indeed enjoyed playing it, and want to recommend it for people who are afraid to take a bite of it.
writing this review immediately after getting the 100% to be honest this game is seriously not AS bad as people claim it to be. the main complaint of the "janky hitboxes" is because of the low adaptability/low roll iframes it isnt conventional, but you spend the first 10-15 levels, levelling adaptability and youre set for the entire game ^ not to mention, if youre a mage, levelling attunement also increases your iframes but to a lesser extent while HAVING to level adaptability is a requirement to make the game feel normal.. its so simply alleviated id totally replay ds2. it plays differently and unconventionally compared to any other souls game ive played due to the difference. this game's 100% isnt too difficult and it was pretty fun. asides for the final stretch. that ♥♥♥♥ sucked TLDR: this game is GREAT despite its occassional issues
