Calling this game a passion project by the devs would be a disservice to them -- it's their life. Watching the things they've been going through to get their game back from their publisher has been inspiring. All the while they never stopped working on their game, coming up with a series of free updates that they plan to release once they have control of the game across all systems. (Also follow their FB, it's really funny)
El juego es bastante "Meh" pero uno de los desarrolladores es un bonobo, mog0lico y un p3lotudo que dijo que "los que compraron su juego con descuento son unos idiotas". No se merecen ni un centavo por esta pobre excusa de Metroidvania.
Good ♥♥♥♥!
Cookie Cutter: Crawling With Bugs 6/10 I actually like a good portion of this game, but there are just sooo sooo many bugs. Way too many for a full release. By far the worst part of the game was the platforming in one of the areas. The section where you get the "bomb-head" powerup. Its covered with instant kill spikes, and the controls do not F*ing work and I can't tell if its intentional. All the sudden my character cannot use her air dash, but only in certain situations. If its intentional have the character walk through an electrical field and malfunction or something. Out of nowhere movements i've been using throughout the game no longer work and it's f*ing annoying. The game allows me to double jump and dash back to shoot a switch. But then in that same exact spot, when I go to dash to the spot where the gate I just opened is, my dash doesn't work. This issue has happened in two different areas in that level. There are also some very serious bugs... Three times I beat a levels boss, Aut... something, and three times it bugged out and didn't let me advance. I got the achievement for beating the boss but was still locked inside the arena. I noticed every time it glitched like that the audio had cut out. I literally had to quit and reopen the game until I could beat the boss on the first go or it would bug out on my second attempt. This also happened in arenas where the game throws waves of enemies at you. Also, the first two bosses didn't trigger during my run, the mud guy and the bull. I had to completely exit the game and reboot and re-enter to get them to trigger. Outside of the the glitch-mob bs, the gameplay in general is a bit janky. Primarily the platforming aspect. The character jump feels way too floaty and it feels like the hit boxes are smaller than the platform art work. Like you go to the edge of the platform to jump but fall off before you get there. There's a lot of good things I can say about this game. I really like the art style and some of the pop culture references / easter eggs are awsome. But I'm not gonna upsell a game that's so damn broken. When you have to deal with, re-do and find work arounds because of a sub par release it really takes away from the game. And after a while, you hate the game. Sucks, cuz if this game just played properly, was tested and coded correctly, it'd be a lot of fun.
A hardcore and badass punk-themed experience reserved for the fearless at heart. Join Cherry’s path of destruction, a furious and vengeful android, as she embarks on a violent, blood-soaked journey to save her creator, the one true love of her life. I personnally enjoyed the vocabulary. Refreshing. -Graphic are some of the best, as an artist myself, it's outstanding. -Excellent sounds for sure. -I'd say CC situate itself around average difficulty overall. A sweet spot accessible to most. -There's many routes to explore all the time but it literally tells you where to go so it's a mix. You won't get lost to much. -I clocked in at around 12hours. I almost 100% but reached a point where I was ok just finishing the game. -Minimal replay value. I could see myself replaying it in the future. -I think it's worth buying the game between 15-20$. It offers a lot for that price. -Control for fighting were mint but the 'floaty' or maybe 'icy' feeling for platforming was terrible. -There's many option for fighting. Basic attack, weapon abilities, special abilities, parry, dodge etc... -A fair amount of enemies throughout the game. Those flying bastards are annoying tho haha. -The first few bosses were so easy that I didn't have time to see much. Last boss was fun and fair. Definitely on the easier side for the genre. -Fast travel was OK I think. They are relatively well positionned. Could've use 1 more per biomes. -Biomes were kinda all the same-ish. I never felt like I was entering a totally different place. Consistant with the theme tho. -Lots of explorations to do imo. Fair amount of back tracking as well. -There's a lot to find, not necessarily collectibles per se. Every maps tells you your exploration percentage. -A few secrets throughout the game. Nothing to insane, everything is optainable. -There's a handful of puzzles with a sphere that you have to toss around. Nothing crazy, fun. -The game does a good job at platforming, progressively harder. Only 1 took me a bit of effort. -Other than upgrading your weapons, there isn't much rpg elements. Overall, I think Cookie Cutter is a solid "A" tier. It does almost everything great. The world build-up, unique character and the language used was refreshing. The graphics are insane. I enjoyed the exploration and backtracking a lot. Tho there's 2 item's (floaty things) that I didn't bother trying to find. I'd say Cookie Cutter is a perfect metroidvania if you're looking for a more casual playstyle. Nothing to hard, nothing to difficult to find. The progression system was a solid addition imo, it tells you the % of thing you've found in every biomes. Even tho its an excellent game and worth playing, I don't think it's unique enough to be a top contender, the standard is just that high for the MV genre. My Ranked list of Metroidvanias Played at the time of this Review : 1.Aeterna Noctis 2.Super Metroid 3.Castle Vania : Symphony of the Night 4.Blasphemous 1 5.Hollow Knight 6.Pronty 7.Ender Lillies 8.Cookie Cutter 9,Moonscar 10.Axiom Verge (It's a solid game, I just preferred the previous ones)
I have to be honest with you, it took me a while to get into this game. In typical Metroidvania fashion, the beginning of the game is slow to start, your character is very under-powered. But as you get some more upgrades, things balance out nicely. I completed the game entirely on my Steam deck without any technical issues. It is a combat-focused Metroidvania with some platforming. The combat was well done, cool kill animations. The platforming is less fun, mainly because your character control is a little stiff. The hand-drawn aesthetic is the best thing about this game - truly awesome! Overall, I would recommend this game if you like the 2-D Metroidvania genre. I also feel like we should support the developer because apparently they had a serious disagreement with the publisher, so they had to take back the game under their own control. Hopefully things get sorted out and they can keep developing games, cant wait to see what they come out with next!
Hell of a good time. Recommended!
El juego no es totalmente malo, tiene sus partes buenas pero en general creo que hay mala movilidad, una historia que no me motivo a seguirla, así que no lo puedo recomendar del todo, para mi es un 6/10
This is a gory and savage metroidvania with very rewarding challenge.
