This game really hooks me up. It has a lot of secrets that in the end game, I wish I knew it earlier. There are tons of things to be explorered and discovered. The story is interesting and has many plot twists. The music is superb and emotional. However, on the downside, it looks the game tend to be more about grinding to build up stats rather than using skills to beat the boss. I know about the game when seeing someone doing zero damage boss fight.
This game was developed from the creator of Castlevania. So you can say it is the spiritual successor of that franchise! it's not perfect, but i like it a lot!
It's equal parts rough, beautiful, ugly, janky and precise. It pays a massive tribute, homage and celebration to two games: "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night" and "Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow" and I'm 100% here for it since I really love both of them dearly. The game managed to make me laugh, it amused me and I loved the scale of it; the exploration, collection of items and farming enemies. At no point did I feel the tediousness of it all since it's very generous with RNG. I've yet to 100% all collectibles but I'm leaving that for a rainy day, leaving this game satisfied by completing it as much as I could. A huge thank you to developers for making this. I delayed playing it for a long time and I'm glad I played it when I did.
Really amazing metrovania! Loads of levels, weapons, abilities, secrets. Good controls (controller recommended) Fun levels without being too challenging. Loads of fighting styles and weapons with unique abilities. The list just goes on. This is a must play game for anyone who is a fan of the genere.
已经玩了五遍了,没错,我就是(类银河)恶魔城迷!
ever want to slam your head aginst the wall due to rng this is the game for you
I just love Miriam.
A game that feels like whoever was making it was scared there would never be another Metroidvania after it. It has every hallmark of the genre and plays like a best hits version of the previous Metroidvania games mechanics. In terms of style, music and direction, it's really something special. While it still hangs out in the gothic clubhouse, it has enough distinct charm to make it stand on it's own feet. Although when it comes to cutscenes, things do get a bit stiff on the animation department. However, in terns of gameplay I find myself torn. This is a huge map and there's so many little things to do within it. Although that is sometimes to a fault as when you start out with lacking abilities, certain missteps can cause back tracking for days. Even when backtracking for story sake, it can take quite awhile to get around. More on the combat side, I'm not the keenest on the crystal shard system (aka the soul system from aria of sorrow). I respect it big time as a mechanic, as the thrill of every enemy having a new move for you to use is a lot of fun. Furthermore, this game better enables you to stick with the moves you like so you can upgrade any ability you fancy. However, I get bothered with how difficult it is to make decent move sets with them. The game gives you a shortcut option where you can swap between gear and crystals and save pre configs. But it's too much being adjusted in one go. Using older Castlevania games as reference, it was efficient and promoted experimentation when swaps were quick and just changed your moves. But in this, you have to update all your armour and weapons with it and by the time you find a new piece of gear your config is out of date and you have to rebuild the bunch. It just put me off from trying out moves by the latter half as I didn't want to deal with it, keeping it just for mandatory traversal moves. In terms of challenge and difficulty, this had some great intensity to it but I swear this game has a few jank hitboxes. The greatest move some of these bosses in this game can pull on you is walking into you and not moving. With the high damage numbers and the low i-frames after hit, it's a recipe for a quick game over. So many of the boss fights had to be played with less worries about avoiding moves and more avoiding the boss itself. While my complaints are elaborate though, I still think this game is a great time. There's so much charm and heart poured into it. Furthermore, if you take to this, this game offers so much post game content that it would make your head spin. From extra characters, to boss rushes, to randomisers, speedrun modes and even entirely new classic modes too.
iim conflicted on this one. i dont hate it and i really liked the gameplay loop, i was very engaged with it. its just the game is full of outdated design choices from the old castelvania games! here is a list of those bad designs: 1) the saves are manual only and if you die while having a far away save file from where you died, you are gonna have to replay everything till that point! 2) each weapon has special moves associated with it but you can only excute them with those clunky quarter circle motions which are not intitive at all on my rog ally handheld and its just much easier to kill the enemy quickly with normal means. 3) some of the set pieces that are essential for game progression are difficult to decipher, for instance, there is a library location with moving book shelfs that you need to jump on to progress, but you have to point at them first!! the problem is that the indicator on those book shelfs is innocuous and can be easliy missed. 4) some of those boss fights are very easy to cheese with magic, i barely lost to any bosses. at the end of it, the game is fun, the story is engaging, and i enjoyed my time with it. so it gets a 7/10 from me, buy it on discount!
I'm having an absolute blast playing this game coming off of sotn. I just got the bad ending, and I'm gonna explore more of the castle considering I've probably only seen a fraction of what the game has to offer. I might even update as I complete more of the game! The game so far for me is an absolute 10/10, and I strongly suggest others try it too :D
