A dark and unsettling narrative adventure that will shake you to your core. Take control of a reluctant investigator, trapped in a depraved and despondent world. BAFTA-winning and selected by the V&A for its pioneering narrative design, this disturbingly powerful story is unlike anything you've played.

overall alright for in between.
Beckett has potential, and it's use of collage and multimedia is genuinely very innovative but is unfortunately it's attempts at literary nihilism come off more like a pretentious first year lit student who just discovered Nietzsche than something truly literary. It's far too in your face and doesn't let implications sit with you, but rather shoves it under your nose. In the options the game tells you that you don't have to play it. By about halfway through the game I was ready to agree.
One of the best games I have played. Period. Beckett is just a series of events with a deep sense of introspection, a constant stream of consciousness that keeps on unfolding what has been the life of an individual. This game is very simple in its structure, as you will just point and click to proceed. There are a ton of dialogues. And I really mean it. This is a dialogue-driven game, and for that reason I'd recommend you to play it if you're willing to spend some time reading. Keep in mind, though, that it is a very theatrical and deep in its structure, therefore you will find it interesting. Everything about Beckett is interesting, in fact. It feels like watching some theatrical act of some sort. You will deeply remember its style, as it is clear that this is a work of art in every sense. It will almost feel like reading a book, but with each of your senses. Musically, as well as visually, it is distinct and abstract. I loved its style. I'd recommend to not read anything about this game and just play it. It should really cost more than it does.
Melancholic life simulator.
This game is not what I expected. I'm not sure what I expected but it wasn't this (it's not a bad thing). I'd say Beckett is rather experimental, but I don't find it pretentious. It's nevertheless really disturbing, especially with all the noises... I admit I had to mute the game because damn, the sound made me feel so uncomfortable. The game design reminded me of board games, where you move a pawn on a board. There are some really good ideas related to this, like having each character represented by a pawn that is shaped like something essential to the character's identity from Beckett's point of view (as an example, a buyer is represented by a coin). I can't really comment on the graphics. It's quite peculiar, with vague shapes and X-ray-like images, and sometimes bits of 50s-style videos. A lot of things were only hinted at and not shown directly, which was enough to make me feel uneasy. The story is rather dark and the ending left me with more questions than answers. If you like visual novels set in a horrific future, you might want to give it a try. The gameplay is mouse-only and requires a lot of reading (thanks, Captain Obvious!). 🔷TAGS🔷 Graphic novel. Point and click. Thriller. Dystopian horror. ⏱️DURATION⏱️ 3 hours.

Well, it is worth it just for the experience, I think. If you're looking for complex mechanics and puzzle solving or a satisfying detective mystery to solve - do not bother. This is a glorified slideshow or an equivalent of a walking sim in point and click form. It's really vibey, though. The storytelling is murky and grim, the atmoshepere is pungent and palpable. You will get no answers here. You will finish this more confused than you've started. If you like absurdism and dadaism as art movements - this is an experience for you. I'd struggle to call this a game, but a well-crafted interactive experience it is.
A very experimental and I'd say art house visual novel in the same vein as Eraserhead movie or House of Leaves book. The story (a detective drama mostly) deals with topics of getting old, mental issues, trauma, the past and the essence of reality itself. Becket has a fantastic yet experimental presentation: the whole game reminds a collage of static analog elements, ancient cinema pieces, some stop-motion. THis approach is highly impressionistic and feels like a early 20th century German impressionist film and a board game at the same time. In terms of writing style and the plot this is for the fans of Disco Elysium and probably disturbing projects by Harvester Games. Highly recommended if you tolerate indie and art house scene. Will take no more than 2,5 hours and it's actually a visual novel so there's no way to stuck.
