A fun game with what I felt to be a good balance of challenge and intuitive playstyle. Some may feel it's too 'easy', but I appreciated the mostly fun playing with the latter levels being appropriately challenging. The gameplay is in bite-size chunks, with breaks back at the Bastion in between, which makes it both easy to step away, and also quite addictive ("I can do just one more area before bed!").
supergiant games' first game, and one of the first games i played on my ipad as a kid. the game still really holds up with just stellar story, music, gameplay, and everything. highly recommend!

The game that started it all for SuperGiant Games, and I can definitely see why it has stood the test of time. A simple isometric adventure, but one that does a lot of things right. The story is very unique in that it is being narrated as you play throughout the whole game. Progression is very straightforward, but also contains depth as choice of upgrades, weapon combinations, and difficulty multipliers can give you different experiences from level to level. Tinkering with each weapon and finding the most enjoyable combination was my favorite part of the game. Given that there is much replayability in the form of New Game+, I can see myself coming back and putting more hours into this one.
Spoilers! I remember back in the day, everyone used to talk about how the narrator is the reason to play this game. Everytime I picked it up over the years, I figured that was the only reason to play it, and while I found it cool, it wasn't a reason to keep me going. Fast forward to now, and I still partially agree with that point. However this time, I had two reasons that pulled me through: my love of Hades 1 & 2, and the combat being simple yet fun. With this playthrough, I unfortunately didn't follow the story, as I was letting the gameplay pull me through to have fun with it. At some point, I was curious about what were the little details in the story I was missing, and I watched someone's video on their perspectives on how the story affected them. It made me regret not paying attention, because when I listened, I realised the story was the same as the combat, simple, yet effective. Using the narrator to tell the story is only half of why this game is amazing. It's the way his perspectives paint who you're fighting in his light. It's the way the world, and its' history, is only seen through his lense. Whenever you talk to a character, its not their voice you hear, but only his interpretations of what they say. You never even learn your own name, as he never gives it away in his stories. When you finally hear Zia's voice at the end, it makes you realise this fact even more. I really wish I paid attention more. Because the final sequence is amazing! This game is special. It's special for what it is, but its also special from where and when it came from, in a time when indies were coming out of the woodworks. I'm glad I finally I gave it a chance 12 years later, cause ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, this game is cool! Now to play Transistor!
fantastic game 10/10. music and sound are especially good!
Great Game. Nice Story Nice variety. I did basically just stick to the same weapons most of the game, but I figure variety is nice to have regardless to fit play, and for achievements and new game plus etc. I found that there were some depth perception issues but luckily that doesn't affect the game a whole bunch. I myself am not a "challenge" person. I don't like trying challenges over and over again, never have. So I only dabbled in those aspects of the game minimilistically but it doesn't impact yourability to play and beat the game.
legitimately one of my top 10 games of all time, i own it on every system i met the devs at pax when they were demoing it and they were some of the kindest, coolest people i have ever met
