buen juego, mal assassins creed
An enjoyable experience for the most part. Its cool get to travel across ye olde England and conquer the lands, the game has a ton of content, in fact way too damn much, I played on the easiest difficulty and it still took me 60 hours to get through it, I did do some side stuff here and there but nowhere near as much as was left. Visually is decent and story isn't too bad, voice acting is good and yeah its quite decent I'd say. There are quite a few problems with the game though which stops me from recommending it at this time. The main thing being the games engine is very buggy, lots of npcs bugging out and weird little things you get in a lot of open world games but also the game really doesn't like you to play at high framerates, the ground will start glitching out all over the place which sucks. The main big issue though is the game just randomly crashes now and again, it can go like 10-15hrs without doing it and then crash 2-3 times in a row its just very random, I think clearing the cache in the files helps but its still an unacceptable issue to have in a game that has been out this long, they've had plenty of time to patch it but they've clearly just given up and moved on so I can't currently recommend a game that has been left in that sort of state. Overall decent and enjoyable but way too long and way too many technical problems with the game for me to currently recommend this, maybe just get it on sale for at least 80% off, I wouldn't bother otherwise. 5/10
The audio in this game is so compressed and bad i quit playing and refunded after 40 minutes

While I do think this is a moderate improvement over Odyssey, it's still not great. I can barely even keep up with this bizarre plot anymore, and the story doesn't even really try to explain much anyway. Combat is significantly improved over the problems of the last two games, though the loss of ship combat really just leaves you with nothing to do while on your boat. Strangely, the assassin v templar plot is entirely secondary in this game. Barring two members on both sides, I don't believe you really interact with any of them outside of side content. There was a time where I really thought this series would lay it on too thick with this plot at times, but when it's almost entirely absent it just makes the whole plot disjointed and aimless. The finale doesn't really make much sense if you hadn't done some pretty major side quests or have a decent familiarity with Norse mythology, and then sort of peters out to not even have a proper ending with credits rolling. I haven't completed the DLC yet, but I managed to unlock the "last goodbyes" after completing all main game content, which just seems weird that the ending seems to be locked behind all that. Overall I don't have nearly as much to complain about with this game, compared to my scathing condemnation of Odyssey as I do feel the gameplay has improved a fair bit, but I still wouldn't recommend this game. Performance was also abysmal, glitches weren't too bad and generally fixed after fast traveling or loading, but crashes were constant, sometimes happening multiple times within an hour.
I've been playing this game on the PS4 for years, roughly since the end of 2022/beginning of 2023. As someone who is not only a nerd regarding old Norse mythology but (obviously) also vikings, this game has been nothing but a sweet treat. And despite its rough edges gameplay and history wise - I am enjoying it a lot. Having spent roughly 300 hours in total (both platforms combined), I dare say I can give an honest review. Now, gameplay wise I'd say it is not what you would expect from an AC game, despite the combat being versatile with all the different weapons, combinations and skills. Parkour wise...it's lacking simply because of how the environment is built. Most of the time you will be on the back of your horse but you do climb around in small villages, bigger cities, Roman sights and caves. It is not a crowded game like, for example, AC Unitiy. Yet that makes up with stunning visuals and having your own dreki (longship). When it comes to the writing, it's mid. Gotta admit that. It has strong moments but compared to previous AC games, like Black Flag, it's just trailing behind. What I have to note is that the map is quite big and throughout the story even extends into other places. It's not perfect, by any means. I would rate it as its own game, and not an Assassins Creed game because it has barely anything to do with the original storyline. Let's be real. But it is not its own game and instead a part of said Ubisoft franchise, so: Is it worth playing as a ''die hard'' Assassins Creed fan? Probably not. Is it a really entertaining Viking game? Absolutely. Get it on a discount if you are unsure. On the side: If you are someone who gets offended just by looking at the in game shop, that's on you. Yes it is not nice because Ubisoft basically shoves it into your face in the menu screen, but it is not mandatory to buy anything from it. In fact, you get a free item every week, so that is a small positive thing. It obviously doesn't excuse the micro transactions.
Post Platinum review: The game sucked through and through. Mechanically, technologically, it was a complete slap in the face to every fan of the franchise from the Ezio trilogy, or even the previous two RPG titles. What an insane mess of a game, from the mastery points and challenges thereof to the actual core gameplay, the running, the parkour, the exploration. All of it was a complete grinding halt to my entire mentality. I hated playing through this game. It was genuinely sunken cost fallacy that got me through the rest of the story and concurrent DLCs. I didn't want to poorly review this game until I knew EXACTLY why. Eivor is too slow. They are too slow to do almost anything compared to Alexios/Kassandra and Bayek, yet lacking the powerful capabilities BOTH of these characters ended up displaying at the middle or end of the game. With the abysmal amount of points one can ascertain through exploration alone, I am vehemently disgusted that ubisoft did not implement "increase movement speed +.05%" as an additional end-of-game perk. Speaking of, if a tutorial card in the loading screen says directly to the player (it's like hint 14 or 15 out of 30) "don't get overwhelmed by the amount of stupid stuff we have in our game," then it may be time to dial back the amount of stupid stuff you have in your game. It is micro-frustrations exactly like this which are rampant enough throughout the game to distract you from the beautiful world I'm sure the developers spent a lot of money on to go use these places as nice vacation spots and take photos "for reference." Mechanically speaking, you are still getting the same, clunky and withered Anvil engine that was used to make 2002's Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. You can really tell when you're trying to climb at a spot with a fixed camera position. It is a cow in which ubisoft refuses to let its milk spoil. However, the chunks are found within almost any parkour setting, specifically finding the magic papers (atune to AC3 and AC4). Imagine my frustration when i found out almost 100 hours in that you can freeze time. Thus furthering my point on the broken mechanics behind their tutorials they have also dwindled. It used to be that Ezio/Desmond/Conner/ WHOEVER would first go into an animus training session. I suppose that money went to developers going on Eurotrip history tours? Funny, too, how the closer they try to mimic historic accuracy, the further they stray from it. Eivor is meeting with people who didn't exist until 1100, seeing sights that would have been desecrated to rubble hundreds of years ago. But I suppose in this world we can assume the plate tectonics have also smushed the british isles into mountainous monstrosities? Where are the flatlands? The highlands?? Where on EARTH is scotland? Don't give me some genuine horse about the Isle of Skye, that's a copout at best. Every time a developer makes a historical piece setting like this they either have to decide on whether it's going to be an amusement park ride or a genuine recreation of the land as it was to the people who were there. Ubisoft made sure to miss both marks by expanding the map to 'only bloated enough to fit everything in.' They might as well have made a Big Ben be the new White-Gold Tower of Cyrodiil for the entire map and add in a medieval version of the eye. The biggest problem I have with all of this is with the old anvil engine, it's exactly like bethesda with Creation2.0 or whatever. A revision is not a new engine, ask any mechanic. if anything, revised means cheaper parts and methodology to get there, so it's really only beneficial for the top brass (investors, marketing, executives, etc.) while the players, modders, and more so the game itself suffers. There is no 'fluidity' to these motions that are based solely on camera direction instead of player movement, the platforming levels you do have to face are almost never implemented with the idea of getting through one quickly, but the way "THEY" want you to do it. It's been like this since the original titles with '50%' synchronization on certain levels, while conveniently not telling you about what parameters you failed until the tail end. It's always been under the guise of "well, that's not how your character would have done that!" The miss here with Valhalla is that Ubisoft was just blatantly trying to prove to its investors that you can indeed lead a horse to tainted water, and they will still drink it. However, this horse drank the poison, spat it back out, and is now drinking a new, better poison; AC Shadows, and let me tell you I only hate that game HALF as much.
