To Give A Brief Summary Of My Experience With YU-NO: ...
The Game Starts With Sleezy 1980's Romance Setting, The MC's Dad Leaves Him With A Time Machine And Peaces Out. The MC Then Travels Through Multiple Divergent Paths In The Space Time Continuum To Have As Much Promiscuous Sex With Unstable Mostly Middle Aged Women Before Remembering He Has An Oedipus Complex And Banging His Step Mom. His Dad Comes Back As A Space Jesus Spirit And Congratulates The MC For Banging His Wife Before Telling Him The Truth About The Hollow Earth Theory And That His Actual Mother Was A Space Faring Hyperborean Elf Lady Who Lived In A Floating Hunk Of Rock Called Dela Grante. The MC Collects All The Thanos Macguffin Stones He Needs To Create A Dimensional Portal To Dela Grante Through The Ancient Burial Tomb Of Anubis And Gets Isekai'd. In Hyperborea, The MC Knocks Up A Hot Busty Blond Elf Lady, They Have A Child And Live Happily Ever After For Sometime. Turns Out Dela Grante Is Under The Control Of Military Junta Of Storm Troopers - Ruled By The God Monarch Who Is Actually His Step Mom, They Kill His Wife And Try To Mind Break His Daughter Into Becoming A Sacrfice For The Planet's Super Computer AI That Will Harvest Her Conscious And Very Soul To Power Up The Space Jesus Spirit Of His Original Mother, So That She Can Calculate The Meridians Of Interdimension Travel And Prevent The Fourth Impact From Happening. The MC Bangs His Daughter And Stops John Evil From Blowing Up Earth With The Help From A Busty Skintight Wearing Inter-Dimensional Space ICPO Officer And Transcend Time And Space With His Current Wife/Daughter. Credits Roll With The Evangelion 'Congratulations' Scene And That's YU-NO In A Nutshell.
10/10 Would Recommend.
Seems less like a remake and more of an experiment to find the absolute minimum level of quality people are still willing to pay for. They managed to make everything worse here, from the mutilated “clean and modern” character designs and liminal-space wide empty backgrounds down to even the cluttered and spastic UI. Play the original with a walkthrough instead. It’s a work of art.

Nothing on the store page hints at it, but HALF of the routes in the game are incest routes, to varying degrees. That stuff isn't for everyone, and I wish they were upfront about it, instead of making it a surprise. Just... know what you're getting into before buying this. I was on the fence about giving this one a negative review - it does have a lot of positives. The story branching (
in the first half
) was interesting enough to explore, and the voice acting was pretty good throughout (and all of the spoken lines are fully voiced). However, in addition to all the incest... 1. Almost all conversations feel like pulling teeth. It goes something like - What were you doing there? - What do you think? - I think you have some fiiiine titties, gurlll - Oh protagonist-kun, you so zany and weird, teehee - So what were you doing there? - What are you talking about? - I saw you there last night, what were you doing? - I was looking into something from Koudai's notes - Koudai... like my father's name, Koudai?! - Exactly - So you were looking into something my father was doing?? - Wow omg protagonist-kun, I can't believe you actually figured it out, you so smart and I'm so impressed, as expected of you, etc - Ok so what exactly were you looking into? - Oh look at the time and/or this momentary distraction, g2g bye lol - No wait aaand she's gone ...I wish I was making this up, but seriously, that's how they *all* go. It's like AI slop, but created before actual AI slop was available, which is almost impressive in its own way... but yeah, I only managed to sit through one route of this, and after that I just kept clicking "next" as soon as I got the gist of what the current line said. Which is a damn shame - again, voice acting was good, but getting though all those inane dialogs was such a slog. 2. Protagonist is dumber than a bag of rocks, and it's forced stupidity that can't be averted by the player. From more innocent examples (like being genuinely amazed that a TV show he's watching was pre-recorded and *not* happening in real time) to things like
causing the death of his wife in the second half of the game by sending a letter to the capital after he was TOLD that the letter said "hey royal guards, the woman you've been looking for is hiding here!"
, or
not recognizing the uniform of people who JUST had his wife killed - after being specifically told to closely inspect said uniform before the wife's death, and not running into anyone else in between
, or
seeing a woman that looks almost exactly like his wife, recognizing that it's not his wife, and not even remotely suspecting that it might be his daughter
, or
being totally surprised that the priestess's successor must be her daughter
, or
releasing and just forgetting about the guy that he ALREADY SAW ACTING AS A VILLAIN IN MULTIPLE TIMELINES after he got some half-answers from him, without any new reasons to trust him or needing him released for
3. Protagonist is also completely useless. No, it's not a case of a meek protagonist without a personality (to be fair, this one does have personality - and even has eyes when they show his face, such wow) - but he IS useless. In the first half, pretty much everything is accomplished by other characters, and he only does something like pull out an item that he got from someone else at the end of a bad route. In the second half, you'd think that the kendo skills (and general fighting prowess implied by the game telling-not-showing how he saved a guy from 3 bullies) they were teasing throughout the game would finally pay off. He gets a proper sword, then gets his ass handed to him, so he trains diligently for several years... only to get his ass handed to him a couple more times without even doing anything with the sword at all. They even introduce a plot hole to let him keep the sword for the end game (where he is captured, transported and put into prison for a lengthy period, then flown outside directly from his cell - and suddenly, later, he has the original sword on him again), only for it not be used for anything at all. 4. Just, like, various questionable... stuff. a. The game has a grand total of 6 animated cutscenes. One is surveying some wreckage, one is
his secretly-50-years-old secretly-daughter
turning her head in shower, one is
his other daughter
kissing him on the lips, and the other 3 are of another woman being whipped and punched in the face
by our MC
before
he sleeps with her
. This is certainly a choice of usage for that animation budget (story had plenty of instances of other characters getting punched, for example, but sound effects were enough for those). b. There is a race of beings that look like blue dragons at first, and then as human women with wings when they mature. They are capable of intelligent communication with humans via telepathy - we're talking complete sentences with proper grammar here. Well, the story gives us 2 of these - a mother that shows out of nowhere and dies before asking the MC to take care of her daughter, and that daughter. She spends like a couple of weeks (at most) with the MC who calls and treats her as "a lizard pet" (even after her mom, who clearly had the same blue wings, told him repeatedly that it's her daughter - see above, MC dumber than rocks)... then over a year later, she shows up literally out of the sky to get him out of prison, and then
dies from exhaustion before telling him she wants to "become one with him", in exactly the same way people would talk about sex - to which another woman says "oh! I think she meant that she wants you to eat her body now, since we're in a desert and out of food! What, these things are just animals, what's your problem lol". And then the MC actually says "I know this woman is right, I'm just being emotional about this creature because I cared for it for a couple of weeks"... and they promptly eat the body, then immediately have sex - which turns out to result in his secretly-daughter route from the first half of the game.
These winged beings are never seen or even mentioned again. I just... what?.. c. All women in the game lust after the MC 24/7 (even after he tells them stuff like "you're cute... oh, if only you just smiled and kept your mouth shut" to their faces), and his best friend is just there to be cucked over this one girl. That's normal/expected for this type of game, you say? Let's say "maybe" - but then this friend dude is
also shown to be a casual scumbag, when out of nowhere he doxxes some stuff about the girl's family to make her more vulnerable, and hoping that she'd turn to him for support. He then tries to blame the doxxing on the MC (even though he's never been apart from the girl long enough to do the doxxing, and she should've known it) - and after everything is revealed, what does the MC say? "Wow dude, you were actually being hella proactive about getting what you want, I thought you'd be too much of a wimp for something like that but you actually did it, mad respect bro"
d. There's one instance of a girl (whom the MC has literally never met or seen before) actually saying
"ok, please r@pe me, I'm ready now~"
. And later that night
they do have sex - this is a couple of weeks after his wife died and he just started a quest to avenge her, by the way. Oh and with comments on how his daughter is sleeping right next to them, so isn't it more exciting etc
. 5. Translation is mostly ok enough, but then there are also a bunch of outliers, like "I wouldn't be surprised if they killed her" being translated into "This isn't funny. It's life and death". So, not great. 6. Without the hint system, game often doesn't make any sense about where to go next.
I went in with no expectations (I saw the anime of this like 5 years ago and it was dog poop) I ended up liking it. I can definetly see how this game was very revolutionary back in the day. While I agree that the backtracking is quite annoying I think it pays off for the "true ending" (which basically feels like a second game/story). Also I definetly have to mention how absolutely fantastic the soundtrack is; I'm happy you can switch between original and remake ost. The remake ost is also quite good. Overall it was worth my time and money.
