Buggy as heck with constant, repeated crashes. The allure of the Wasteland kookiness turned up to 10 and the soundtrack are not enough to keep me playing, especially since the devs have told us to get bent. Avoid and go play Wasteland 2 or the remaster of 1.
Game Breaking Unpatched Bugs: Enter into an Encounter can't start or finish combat. Can't leave area until combat is over..... Same issues that Wasteland 2 had / has Still unpatched. First time it took a few hours before it happened (past return window). Started another playthrough and it occurred on the first random encounter. Requesting Refund. Will be my last InXile game. "Every monster was a human first" Well, the Wasteland game series has a difficult fate. The original Wasteland became a starting point for post-apocalyptic RPG games. In our time, it's a product for "their own". And it's damn good. Mechanically, Wasteland 3 feels like any modern turn-based RPG. You might think it's extremely casual, but just be thankful that Wasteland no longer turns you around with its huge number of mechanics and percentages of success when you take any action. Seriously. Wasteland 3 is still a real Klondike of stories, mechanics, role-playing, and exploration of the world. The atmosphere here resembles a kind of mixture of a classic wasteland experience adjacent to the total hopelessness of Frostpunk. If you think that top-view games can't convey an atmosphere, you're very wrong. The memorable tracks and ambient of the locations only emphasize this. And despite all the darkness, Wasteland 3 never loses its sense of dark humor. One moment you're deciding the fate of a cult, the next you're fighting killer robots alongside a communist AI version of Ronald Reagan. This game is absurd, and it knows it. The level design has become noticeably cooler than in the second part. Even on the world map, you are now moving on a specially equipped car, which can also be used in battle in an open area. The interface also became much better and more convenient. The storyline is, on the one hand, simple at first glance, but for the sake of the genre, it can become absurdly interesting. Believe me, it may surprise you. But there will always be a problem, and Wasteland 3 is no exception. The game is not in the best technical condition, and sometimes you have to load a save or restart the game to solve them. Be prepared that in the final location, all these small flaws will begin to seriously interfere. There is a feeling that Yuma County Speedway was made in a great hurry, and on the way to minor bugs, there are very noticeable remnants of cut dialogues, etc. In conclusion, I want to say that Wasteland 3 is not only a triquel of the cult first part, but also a worthy representative of modern RPGs in general.
The game is hardcoded to run at 60 or 30 FPS with vsync on (not adaptive sync), game scripts run out of sync if you run it at any higher framerate which leads to stuck encounters, DLC bugs, mission script bugs. The default setting is unlimited FPS. The game is completely abandoned by the devs and they long since stopped all work on their Unity games and moved onto UE5 for their next game. This game is abandonware.
The Wasteland franchise... somewhere in-between, Fallout was birthed from Wasteland's limb, lifeless body and completely outgrew the mother game from whence it hellspawned. And thus, Wasteland was forgotten despite WL3 carrying forward everything that made Fallout great in the first place.
Wasteland 3 is a blast. Don't sleep on it!
I was shocked by how good it is. I wasn't part of the Kickstarter campaign and yet remain convinced this must have delivered on almost everything it promised. It's raucous fun, campy as hell, combat is hugely improved from Wasteland 2 (or so I hear) and super enjoyable, speaking as a big isometric RPG fan. The story is good, player decisions actually matter and the character designs have a recognizability to them that I thought lost to the 90ies (yeah, I'm that old). In fact, the way players can solve missions differently reminds me of ye olden golden Deus Ex, holy grail among games, at least to a degree. That's a big honor to bestow. The music is great. The whole game is a labor of love, even around its rougher edges this shows. On a tangent, it's also refreshing to see an apocalyptic setting in the cold north that isn't Eastern-European and gives you slav boi depression.
You will like this if you liked...
- Fallout New Vegas (EXPLICITLY New Vegas! Fallout in general doesn't count. Peak knows peak.) - Any game made by Obsidian, really - The Mel Gibson Mad Max movies (Wasteland has cartoonishly evil factions reminiscent of the gangs, Fallout can be disappointing faction-wise) - XCOM - Any game that features a vehicle that's also, somehow, a character. Fun fact: I was blown away by the cynical product placements in the game. You can eat Snickers. There's something so audaciously funny and arrogant about the fact the developers just put it there because you can't really copyright the word.
This game is almost wholly responsible for me getting into CRPGs, its post-apocalyptic setting and story tone were immediate, while the gameplay reminded me of playing fallout 3 but from a top-down, isometric point of view and I could not get enough. Then came the knowledge that fallout was inspired by the original wasteland, that the isometric designs and party-based rpg was a WHOLE GENRE. Haven't looked back, thanks Inexile
Not Recommended I put around 40 hours into Wasteland 3 and ended up quitting. Not because the game is bad, it’s actually really good in many ways, but because the bugs eventually made it impossible for me to enjoy. The turn-based combat is solid. Positioning, party management, and the overall flow feel well designed. Special abilities could have been handled better (some feel undercooked or not very exciting), but the core system is still fun and well made. Where Wasteland 3 really shines is progression, loot, and economy — honestly one of the best-balanced RPGs I’ve played in that regard. The RPG side is also strong: dialogue and choices are done well (not quite at Divinity levels, but still good), and the writing is excellent. The sarcasm and black humor land perfectly, the music is fantastic, the pacing is great, and even the side quests don’t feel like filler. But none of that matters when the most important part of the game keeps breaking. Multiple times I ran into bugs where: -combat simply wouldn’t start, or during the enemies’ turn, an enemy would do nothing / get stuck, forcing a reload. The “solution” is to reload, hope it doesn’t happen again… and then it happens again 2–3–4 more times until you’re done and you uninstall. And this is without mods, and years after release. For me, that makes the experience feel unfinished. It’s a huge shame, because there’s a great game underneath the technical problems but as it is, I can’t recommend it. Pros Strong, enjoyable turn-based combat Excellent progression/loot/economy balance Great writing, black humor, music, and side quests Cons Game-breaking combat bugs Constant reloading kills the experience Hard to excuse this long after launch
10/10, sofri, ri, platinei e ainda saí recomendando.
It took me a long time to finally get around to this game and I shouldnt have even wasted my time. I could get around the odd glitches that make the game unplayable every hour or so if the game itself was half as good as wasteland 2. The combat is less interesting than it was before, there are less firing options to your weapons forcing certain combat roles, cover is praticaly useless as a light buff to evade chance. None of the characters have anything interesting to them other than being comicly nihilistic, blood thirsty or horribly horny. Worse yet the choices seem to have no nuance to them, in the last game almost every major decision had a third option to have less blood shed or was the most moral, the conflict with faran Brygo only ends with violence against him or the marshals. I would give this game more of a chance if it worked better but I am just going to go back to wasteland 2.
