Virtual Villagers: The Lost Children

DON'T BUY THIS GAME - PLEASE READ (TL;DR at bottom) I love Virtual Villagers. I've literally been playing these games on and off since my childhood. But it is a flash-based game; when Flash was discontinued, that meant that any modern computer that didn't already have flash downloaded COULD NOT play these games anymore. I was so devastated. I've been trying emulators but I'm not very tech savvy, and could never get these games to run. (Side note: all of Last Day of Work's games are available for purchase on their (quite old) website). I had come to terms with the fact that only someone in the know with emulators would ever get these games to run, and the files were very close to slipping through the cracks and being lost to time- not even big adobe rescue projects like Flashpoint Archive had any Virtual Villagers or Virtual Families games. When I saw these listings on Steam, I thought maybe these were a select few that had been updated to HTML5. Maybe these Steam versions were the last possible way to play these games. So I bought this one as a test... but just as when I tried to use LDoW's version, the Steam version of this game does not run. Because it needs flash. And modern laptops do not come with flash anymore. So it's impossible... Or so I thought! --> In a last ditch effort, I hopped onto the discord server for Ruffle (a flash emulator project) and asked them for help. I linked LDoW's website and... the games were working? Just fine? /Without the emulator??/ Apparently just recently, Last Day of Work updated every game in the Virtual Villagers series to be compatible with modern hardware, without the need for flash. And they're all FREE! I tested them and yes, they work! I am so happy that these games have been updated. This series truly holds a special place in my heart and in my childhood. I was so sad thinking they'd be lost forever- and now in one day, I'm able to play every single one! Please don't buy these old Steam versions, they won't even open if you have a newer computer. Please go to LDoW's official website and download them for free :) TL;DR - Steam uses the original files that require flash to function, so these games are all totally busted. Last Day of Work's official website has FREE editions of these games that have been updated to work on modern computers :)

"Simple" they say, "Casual" they say, "Relaxing" they say, and the you get to watch your islanders carry the desiccated skeletons of the two and four year olds whose conception you had a direct hand with and watch them buried right next to your favorite elder who all died of starvation while you were asleep. Protip: Once you've unlocked the stew pot starvation stops being a problem as long as you know the recipe that fully heals whoever eats it. Two blue flowers from the area above the graveyard and one orange one from directly south of the stew pot. This will restore to full health anyone who eats it. "But I have zero food!" The coconuts are glitched, even though it says there are ten, send your entire village up those trees until everyone has coconuts. They're not counted as plucked from the tree until they're in your food stores, so you can gather as many as you have villagers as long as you grab them before anybody gets to the storage. This should easily leave you enough food for the stew, and should keep you from uninstalling in frustration as you watch your tribe starve and repeatedly click on the crops which somehow always seem to be 200 minutes away.

I love the original trilogy of the Virtual Villagers games and I've been playing them since I was a child. Not being a smart enough 6 year old when these games came out, I am revisiting the OG trilogy to see success. So far second game is great. I have yet to complete it as I choose to not no-life this game. Loving it so far, very nostalgic.

If you played it as a kid, it's the best blast back to the past. If not, it's still a really great starter into the Last Day of Work Virtual Villager games. Start at the older ones before moving to the newer ones because they improved greatly with each game so moving backwards in the series is pretty significant. Still pretty easy to beat but consumes a lot of your time. Idles are always very progressive when you're offline so pause the game before you close it if you plan to be gone for awhile!! But I love waking up to being able to progress and do new things. Overall I grew up with these so of course I love them haha.

Why do I only start with 3 adults? One gets pregnant and now I only have 2 workers in the beginning of the game. Restarted a new game five times with no different results

Super fun and nostalgic game! Easy to beat, but requires a bit of a time investment and grind in the beginning, until your villagers are a bit more self-sufficient, and don't run the risk of starvation.

Plays just like it did way back when. Such a fun retro game to enjoy and pass the time.
