About
Underrail is an old-school turn-based isometric indie role-playing game that focuses on exploration and combat.
The game is set in a distant future, when life on the Earth’s surface has long since been made impossible and the remnants of humanity now dwell in the Underrail, a vast system of metro station-states that, it seems, are the last bastions of a fading race.
The player takes control of one of the denizens of such a station-state whose life is about to become all that much more interesting and dangerous, as our protagonist is caught amidst the conflicting factions of the Underrail as they violently struggle to survive in the harsh underground environment.
The game's turn-based combat features many different weapon types - pistols, rifles, crossbows, energy weapons, sledgehammers, knives and more, each with their own advantages and drawbacks.
The player is also able to learn powerful psionic abilities from one of the three psionic schools:
Metathermics - Burn your enemies alive or freeze them to death.
Psychokinesis - Use the power of telekinesis for offensive or defensive purposes or electrocute your foes.
Thought Control - Assault the minds of your enemies by overloading them, instilling overwhelming fear, creating deadly hallucinations and more.
For those looking to avoid direct confrontation, the game offers a set of subterfuge skills. Move around the world in stealth like a shadow, lockpicking doors and hacking computers. If people have something you want, you can often just pickpocket them. But if it does come to blows, you can use devious traps to stack the odds in your favour.
Underrail features an elaborate item crafting system. A vast majority of the armor, weapons and some other items encountered in the game can be crafted, and some are exclusively acquired through it. Crafted equipment tends to be superior to that which is scavenged or purchased in terms of raw numbers, provided you are investing in your crafting skills.

Great game, if you liked oldschool games like Fallout 2 and such, you are going to like this one aswell. Well worth your money.
That final dungeon is rough, aside from that, if you like exploration, this game has some golden exploration. Had an amazing stealth run, reminiscent of playing a stealth character in Skyrim or Bethesda Fallout games. One of my favorite CRPGs I've played, seems underrated based on review number to me.
A friend gifted me this game for my birthday. He told me it was an old-school RPG like Fallout 1-2 (which are games I like) so I wanted to try it out. Simple words cannot explain this game. The amount of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that happens in this game is so enormous it's beautiful. After 50 hours and a full playthrough all I can say is this game is like a woman. It's with you at your high times and then you get critically hit by a pig and die. But I'm not here to complain that this game is hard because really it wasn't (because I'm harder). This game is so beautiful that my hair grew back even if I never went bald. This game helped me realize in a toxic relationship you should keep going and never back out. This game is truly one of THE games I've ever laid my eyes on. As I said before. Words cannot explain this game. It's so wonderful I'm starting to question why I won't go live in a metro or something so I can be like John UnderRail. 10/10 make the next game 3D and hyper realistic.
Underrail is one of those games that you are either going to enjoy, or you're not, and if you DO enjoy it, you're going to pick it up and play it for HOURS and then leave the session thinking about different ways you might like to play in the future. Or at least, that's my experience. It's definitely an old-school RPG, so get ready to take notes, get ready to pay attention to the writing because if you don't, you'll miss critical information that you need to proceed. I started out on Beginner difficulty because it's what was recommended and whilst I'm at a stage now where I think the game is feeling too easy, I'm okay with it. I still have moments where the game feels hard, but the times where it feels too easy are pressure for me in the future to play on the harder difficulties and experience some of that proper challenge the game has hiding away for me. Use Beginner to learn the game, how it plays, how to build, then play it again, and increase the challenge. There's a litany of ways you can play, but there is a CORRECT and INCORRECT way to develop your character. If you try to be "Do it all Dan" you will fall flat on your face. You need to pick some lanes for your character, and then stick with them. Graphically the game is not anything next-gen or ultra impressive, but it looks good, it looks clean, and it can run on just about any piece of modern hardware, something that is sorely needed in the current hardware market. The writing is nicely put together and the lore/backstory is great; I feel invested in the storyline, the history and the factions that I've engaged with. I want to know more, I want to learn more, I want to be a part of the game (though, maybe not in a literal sense, living in underrail sounds horrible!) - You have a lot of freedom to explore and do just about whatever the hell you want in this game... ...Even if exploring can sometimes be your doom. I've not experienced the DLCs yet, but I'm looking forward to trying them out and seeing what lies in store. Overall, I'd highly recommend Underrail, and I think it's criminally UNDERRATED for what it is. Edit: Also, The Gauntlet is evil, and I hate it.
