Fallout® 2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed game that took RPG'ing out of the dungeons and into a dynamic, apocalyptic retro-future. It's been 80 long years since your ancestors trod across the wastelands.

Fallout 2 took everything the first game did and improved upon it. The map is bigger, there are far more towns, companions and quests, and the game gives you even more freedom to do things your own way, I spent hours simply exploring and doing side quests without even realising how time was flying by. Although some of the mechanics have aged rather poorly, it remains one of the best RPGs I have ever played.
Damn near perfect CRPG. The humor hasn't aged as well as New Vegas's, for every hilarious moment there's some real "wow the 90s was a different country, huh" moments, but this game swings for the fences in ways that stand out from just about everything else, and does things with the mechanics and environmental design later installments won't or can't accomplish. Most prominently is the presence of Jet in the game: it's not just a consumable buff potion you anachronistically run across in pre-War lockboxes, it's an incredibly destructive drug that's ravaging the population centers of the wasteland. My character took Jet once only for me to discover that addiction is both highly likely even with one dose and permanent, and much of the rest of the game was shaped by my character being gripped by this vice. In fact, withdrawal was so crippling that I found myself making some dark choices, culminating in my character sleeping with a fellow addict in a ratty casino suite just so he could suck the inhalant fumes out of her mouth. That sticks with you.
just remember to save every five minutes
TLDR: Even with the Restoration mod smoothing the rough edges, dated mechanics, clunky UI, and uninspiring fetch quests make it rough to push through for anyone not already nostalgic for 90s-era CRPGs.

PROS:
➕Modding community makes it playable
CONS:
➖Crash to desktop count = 1 (Even with latest Restoration mod) ➖Clunky UI/mechanics ➖Boring fetch quests ➖Unbalanced encounters and lead to instantly dying at the start My review of Fallout 1 (F1) here For this game, I played entirely using the Fallout Restoration Mod. Link goes to the most updated version (Not Nexus mods).
Final Verdict – [4/10]
I tried again to get into Fallout 2 (F2) after I tried Fallout 1. I was actually so disappointed with F2’s first few hours that I went back and played further into F1, and while I did get further into it (about 7 hours), I arrived at the same conclusion: F1 and F2 are just unfortunately not for me. I’m not sure if it’s just the 1990’s-era jank of CRPGs or the setting, or the dated mechanics, but I just can’t get into it and find myself walking away instead of playing. One thing I did want to call out is that during my hours playing, I found none of the quests particularly exciting or interesting. They all seemed like fetch quests or go here and kill x. I was more interested in the potential of choices or moral decisions, but that didn’t seem to happen. The game has other problems such as the dated mechanics, controls, and UI, but I felt that from the standpoint of what a core CRPG experience should ultimately offer: good stat-based decisions, F2 let me down here. Unfortunate, but if I’m not having fun after hours, I’m going to drop it and not recommend it.
Recommend? (Price) [Y/N]

No
$10 is a decent price for the amount of content, but it’s a fairly broken version and won’t run well without mods. Greatest Fallout game of all time.
OK so caveats. this is a classic game (read very old) the upscale for higher resolution they include does not work well (slowdowns, crashes etc) it goes on steam sale for like wud did I pay 5 bucks for fallout 1 2 and tactics? Everyone should go thru fallout and fallout 2 at least once in their lives. for five bucks this works.
