I got this game because I wanted to relive the nostalgia when I played it on the PS2 when I was a kid, and I'm definitely satisfied. It does seem a bit grindy, but it's definitely not as grindy as it was on the PS2. If you wanna relive and experience the nostalgia when you played it on the PS2, get it, and I think even a newcomer would also enjoy this game. It's a good break from the professional racing genre, and the run from the cops genre. Just street racing. I was a bit sad that they didn't add some of the classic racers like Mosquito Lemon (that was my fav on the PS2), but all in all a 10/10 game.
pretty good
sooo gooood!!
I'll write a review later.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome!
Classic arcade type game that really sticks to simplicity. None of those boring and unnecessarily complicated mechanics seen in other racing games, just pure driving. Only real complaint, which really isn't one but I'd really like it for the devs to add some foreign cars in a future update.
I can't believe that this is one of the best JRPG's i've ever played. The only thing I wanted out of this experience, the racing, was incredible and yet isn't something that I'll remember that well. I will remember the perks and skill system, and how that progression felt incredible compared to most driving games. I will remember the characters and story, told brilliantly while not being intrusive to the gameplay. And I'll remember the emotions the whole experience reminded me games can do.
If you've played other games in the series, this will be a welcome return. If you haven't, it can be an acquired taste, mostly due to the unique handling in the game.
If you like JDM and racing you will like this game. Only thing i wish was there was another one like "World extreme racer" that had everywhere elses' cars since this is only Japanese spec vehicles! Great game though imo. In simple terms you build out your cars and challenge other racers who are roaming around in the street
CRASHES THAT DELETE 23 HOURS OF SAVE DATA I’ve put around 23 hours into Tokyo Xtreme Racer and I’m genuinely disappointed with how this experience has ended. After a crash during gameplay, my save file was effectively lost. Despite the save data still existing on disk, the game no longer recognises any career progress and only allows a “New Game” option. There is no recovery option through Steam Cloud, no rollback system, and no way to restore the lost progress. Losing over 20 hours of progression in a game like this is not acceptable. Save corruption or reset after a crash should never result in total, unrecoverable progress loss in a modern release. I expected better safeguards from a full release game in 2025. Systems like backup saves, recovery slots, or proper cloud conflict handling should be standard at this point. While I enjoyed the gameplay itself, this issue has completely undermined my experience. I expect more reliability and respect for player time going forward.
