Great ageod game, quite complex and long but fun, especially if you have interest in the 30 years war. Wouldn't recomend to someone who hasn't played an ageod before however, maybe try ECW first if you still want a pike and shot period game. Many reviews mention bugs, while im sure those people have encountered bugs, this game has not crashed anymore for me than any other game in my steam library, neither have i encountered any game crashing bugs, and it is certainly not the 'buggiest game ever' as one person said. I felt the need to leave review since these reviewers may put people off atleast trying the game. Its not for everyone, and is a niche topic but it certainly deserves a much better review than most have given it.
This is the one of the best and surley the hardest AGEOD game up to date in my opinion. It brings perfectly Thirty Years Was struggle both in strategic depth, dfficulty, and historic recreation.
It crashes on start up when the game loads :( WIsh it would work.
I like historical strategy games and and this period of European history is very fascinating and absolutely underrepresented in video games, so I decided to give this game a try. After a short trial very mixed opinion about it: Graphical presentation, despite some resolution issues, looks quite interesting. Unfortunately menues and are quite cluttered and confusing; so it‘s quite hard to pick the essentials and main taskss and goals out of those appealing colourful „paintings“. In conclusion an intersting „hardcore strategy Game“ with an attractive design, but rather cluttered presentation ... I just didn‘t find my way into the game (probably missing out some underrated gem, but) ... decided to refund (for the first time since being on Steam). Sorry. I would recommend this game for fans of this historical period who are not afraid of overfilled menues and maps and in fact motivated to invest time and hard work getting into those structures.
Excellent simulation of the Thirty Years War period! Many aspects of this conflict are handled quickly and seamlessly! Excellent background music! You can even throw in special "cards" to give your units a special boost in movement or combat. Highly recommended if you are a fan of this period!!
AGEOD formula done right
The age of ChatGPT allows AGEod-games to be played by a wider audience, since ChatGPT can act as a genuine teacher here, telling the player not only what to do, but how to think about the game, which requires a very hard shift away from every other wargame, and i'd like to encourage using this apporach heavily. This game is a very good simulation of what actual operational warfare has to look like: You’re Not Trying to Win Battles — You’re Trying to Break a System. In AGEod games, the enemy doesn’t “lose” because you killed his army. He loses because: * His ability to function collapses * His political / strategic posture becomes untenable * His forces can no longer be in the right place at the right time Big victories matter only if they cause that collapse. So your question is never: “Can I defeat this army?” It’s: “What happens to the war after this army is defeated?” If the answer is “not much,” the battle wasn’t important. Time Is the Real Currency (Not Territory, Not Kills). AGEod wars are wars of attrition, pressure, and tempo. You win by: Forcing the enemy to react. Making him late. Making him waste seasons. Making his plans expire. You win by steadily reducing the enemy’s freedom of action until every choice he has is bad. And that's something very unique, and should be encouraged to be played. as of 2026, over 70 hours in, i didn't experience any crashes/freezes by any means, showing that this might or might not have been fixed, or being entirely down to the tech you're using.
too many errors
Your typical ageod game but man does the attrition ravage your troops during the winter.
