this game made me so autistic about nicktoons that ive watched 5 shows in the span of a month. 10/10 would reccomend i do have a couple gripes, mostly that some of the characters are underutilized (Jenny literally has like 3 lines and theres 0 other characters from my life as a teenage robot in the whole game other than a few generic cluster prime enemies, alongside there being no tremorton themed area) and that there's Too Much Spongebob (two playables, three areas, two bosses, several unique enemies, pearl and ms puff being important side characters). Otherwise i LOVE this game :D
U can play as Katara,Timmy and leonardo what else can u ask for?
Simple gameplay loop without much depth. The voice acting is very high quality and there is some interesting features with the level design, a good spread of enemies and the characters are well animated and distinct. Sadly the combat lacks dept and there is no inherent replayability such as a new game plus, boss challenge mode or anything of the sort. Cannot recommend this at full price, wait a while and get it at a discount if you're interested - worth it for a few hours of fun character interactions between the nicktoons.
The game is great! Awesome game design, really fun combat, beautiful art, and great music! Totally recommend it if this is your first time trying the ARPG genre or if you're really into Nicktoons.
Accessible, The Dice of Destiny l'est. Mindless fun and a good romp with the original Nicktoons. I enjoyed that they were able to get most of the original VA's back for all the characters. Though some of the characters were better than others based on abilities. For a first ARPG it was a good way to introduce children to them, but also a slow nostalgia blast for people from the early 2000s. I do wish we had a bit more characters, and I dislike how the story of the game ended, but not the hardest game to 100%, well worth the time if you enjoy it.
I find myself indifferent with this game. hopefully nickelodeon expands on the idea, just finished the game. There's no post game content, max level is 40, gear drops felt uninspired. toward the end of the game i found myself avoiding any combat i didn't feel was necessary. Skill rotations were alright but lacked depth, story wasn't terrible though very childish, I'd say this game would be great for an introduction to action games for a child, not really enough there for me to bother ever playing it again
2012 DONNIE IS IN THIS GAME (AND VOICED BY ROB) 10/10 5 STARS GOTY
devs if yuou make him and/or the other 3 turtles playable via dlc my life will be yours. no joke i would pay $20-30 - it's been almost a decade since the last (new) 2012 game/the show ended and donnie is like my most specialest boy. the favorite/comfort character of all time, even. i understand if not because this game is already more than i could have ever asked for since it is 2025 and there's already a sizable roster but Please....... please i beg of you.......... it would be so awesome) okay jokes aside this game is fun:) i'm obviously heavily biased because the 2012 turtles are in this game (marking their first video game appearance since like.. 2018 i think??) but it is a genuine good time if not for the game's humor alone. it's not a "hard" game, but that is not a problem for me; for others though, don't expect any mind-breakingly difficult fights or whatever of typical rpgs lol. it's a nickelodeon game, which means at its core it's definitely catering more towards kids or teens - and historically their games never been souls-likes (that would go kind of hilariously hard though. could you imagine the next spongebob game being just elden ring) *will probably update this as i play! as of writing:
PROS:
- (almost) EVERYONE has their correct VAs (except for the avatar cast, which is not too much of a surprise given i don't think any of the avatar games have ever had correct VAs) which is an incredible feat in and of itself - most of the time games like this opt for VAs that sound similar enough, so huge kudos all around (i would not be surprised if that's half the reason why the game costs as much as it does LOL) - the map is way bigger than i thought it would be which is another bonus! :D - the music is super cute and lowkey slaps - i really appreciate the fact that the npc vendors you can talk to have more than one greeting (so far pearl has had a new voiceline every time i talked to her, which has been like.. 15 times? which is insane and i have nothing but respect for it, especially in this day and age of rushed games) - jenny is in this game!! that is another huge W for me and if her & leo interact it would be stupid funny to my dumb brain because mlaatr was another really big part of my childhood - additional W for bringing back the entire (?) OG nicktoons game cast from the 2000s! (minus zim. would love to see that little freak in the future if possible) - so far the jokes land pretty consistently! i was surprised by this - going in i was sort of expecting everything to be watered down for kids but it's got charm to it. and there's tons of references to the respective shows they chose for this game which is always a huge positive. it shows that they care! - the inventory menu is surprisingly thorough??? it feels like a regular rpg menu (for clarity the tabs are weapons/armor/accessories/consumables/key items/skins) and i'm really impressed with the level of detail present. it's giving "baby's first rpg" but in a way that respects the player's intelligence vs the bare minimum i was kind of expecting
CONS:
- the art style/animation is a little weird (in the vein of those 2D content farms/kids channels on youtube, i.e goanimate) but it's passable because it's pretty consistent between characters, doesn't get in the way of gameplay, and the talk sprites are really cute. i think this was done to replicate the FOP style (the video game is a board game in the FOP universe)??? also i can't tell if they're 3D models with 2D outlines/assets or if the 2D animation is just super smooth and does turnarounds nicely??? if it's the latter then i'm kind of impressed because i genuinely cannot tell LMAO (also 0 shading/lighting on the models but having it everywhere else in the game is a little off but this is a nitpick) - the game is also very clearly intended to be played on a smaller screen (i.e switch/steam deck-sized) because the said talk sprites and tutorial text are Huge. like, talking-up-half-the-screen huge - which is comedic but a little distracting at times. i have the resolution set to my monitor's and it made no difference unfortunately - some of the keybinds are a little funky too; however playing on my steam deck fixed this issue (and the above one) so i'd recommend getting this game on a handheld console and/or playing with a controller if you can - the opening cinematic is confusing? it's the one trailer where timmy is hyping up the group when they're already in the d&d game - and only after you start the game proper does it give you context for why everyone's there... which is a weird narrative decision? this is a really minor thing though because again it's like. the first 30 seconds of a 20+ hour game lmao (it mostly irks me from a writer's perspective) - this one is more of a minor footnote but there's a bit of a spongebob-bias, and i mean it is currently the most popular of the shows so that makes sense in a way. still tho could've had my man manny rivera/el tigré instead of sandy smh /J - (also speaking of, spongebob's combat sounds/lines are suuuper quiet for some reason?? not sure if some audio mixing issues are going on here but everyone else is fine) basically if you grew up with 2000s/early 2010s nick like me (& have the money to afford it in this current hellscape) this is a banger of a game. definitely recommend! i can't speak on the quality compared to the older nicktoons games though because i've never played them, so i'll let other reviews cover that. extra side note: if you are a tmnt 2012 fan Get/Plan On Playing This Immediately. purchase it. i have done nothing but play as leo so far and every time he does his stupid little "hee-yah!" i get the dumbest grin on my face. he's in the d&d nick game in his mazes and mutants outfit (VISION QUEST DLC AHHHH). we are so back you guys 2025 IS OUR YEAR WE GOT NECA FIGURES THIS GAME AND A NEW COMIC CROSSOVER. WE'RE SO BACK WE NEVER LEFT
all in all 10/10 would sit and listen to donnie ramble all day (this is not the way the devs intended anyone to play the game but little do they know they've enabled me >:] )
