Can't speak for the campaign, the game was built around 'Survival' mode and that's where it shines. Punishing RTS with a tricky but rewarding learning curve. Scramble together resources and clear zombies out the way to place defences before big horde arrives, hell yeah. IMO the punishing nature of this game's save system adds to the theme.
everything is good
theres a zombie on your lawn
游戏启动困难 等半天就是没动静
Solid game as a whole. Though its very held back by a lot of small flaws, the absolute main one for me being no speed up option. There is some unintuitive ui choices for menus or building interactions, though minor, unit controls and pathing can occassionally be clunky or confusing but its usually salvageable besides somethings like wanting a group of units all to auto-seek out enemies together rather then split up individually (slowly overtime). Its just a lot of small things like that that you will notice. Various quality of life features are missing or just not easily shown if they do exist, like wall drag placement rather individually placing them. etc etc. But. Hey its a cool idea/game. I don't think its fair to give it a thumbs down for those misses, I'd give it like a 75 /100. The bones are all there, it does have some cool quality of life features like removing trees/swapping to a grid view to easily gaps in trees. This game will be harder than what most people will be able to manage, though its difficulty is FAR more manageable if you've played an RTS before, specifically a large portion of the difficulty can be negated just by micro'ing one unit in a circle why another clump of units chip away at a horde from a distance - dumb zombies will follow what's closest. Slow and methodical. It's a weird game, It's kind of slow paced and deliberate feeling - you may choose not to build to manage the threat level - but then at the same time for the missions where there are hordes where you will feel the physical tension of a counter ticking down and the pressure of your defenses having to hold out. A weird emotional balance in a game - low and slow - to high pressure all together. Some missions much slower/faster than others. The failure cascades in this game are pretty darn neat, 1 or 2 zombies sneak in - break a house after several hits - which then produces 4 more zombies which then break two more houses which produces 8 zombies, which break 4 more etc etc - to all of a sudden in a minute or so there are hundreds of zombies rampaging. It can hype up the tension about clearing out that lumbering zombie meandering towards your base by quite a bit. Losing is kind of expected, but most much of the frustration of not being successful in a mission is simply the time spent to restart. Since there is only one slow speed to the game. Pretty big flaw unfortunately. Another example of this flaw is in hero-only missions usually to clear out bunker layouts, they're usually not hard, but just a long time sink since there is no option to speed things up. There are some cool missions, some that are very unbalanced or dependent on you unlocking other tech (at least it seems). I would say at $30 this game is very overpriced. I would feel happy buying this game for $10, if it had a lot of the quality of life features that hold this game back - with speed up I'd pay $15. I purchased this game many years ago (don't recall the price then) but after playing it again recently figured I'd write up a review for it now. There are just better games for your buck out there, but this one does have its own uniqueness worth considering. Because of its novelty and fairly fleshed out core it's still worth a try, I picked up the game again after a long time and it was fun. But to be honest I probably won't touch it again, mostly due to the lack of being able to speed it up. I'd love to play this game more otherwise.
Best thing to happen to RTS since Kirov airships.
Objectively not fun. Waves destroy you with no warning, defense and military take too long to get. It just sucks. It's neither basebuilding nor strategy. It's just "who can repair the fastest."
