As others have said, what you're buying here (the base game) is a big, fat nothing burger... The meat is sold to you in the form of DLC and we're not talking £2 per route or whatever. Just look at the prices of the DLCs... It's complete madness. The greed is through the roof. What slither of game there is here is... Well, you drive trains. Choo-choo. But again, 99% of the game is inaccessible if you don't surrender your wallet to these extortionists. They make, for example (because there are many others), EA look saintly in comparison. Not worth buying anyhow. Actually, I only purchased it originally because I heard there was mods which in my mind meant that I wouldn't need to buy any DLC. I was wrong. See the deal is usually you need DLC for a mod but that DLC also requires a completely different DLC. You need DLC for your DLC... Some of which are no longer available to purchase, apparently. Some fans or defenders of this game and it's monetisation liken it to purchasing physical train sets and all that fluff which can be pricey but I think there's a massive, obvious difference between something physical and something digital. The same problem that exists with physical media vs digital media. The question of ownership and being able to physically hold in your hands the thing that you supposedly own. It's like saying well, uhh, WW2 re-enacting costs a lot of money for period replica uniforms, insignias, blank firing ammo, etc, so we should charge the equivalent for MTX skins in our WW2 game over here and make players buy every piece individually for £10+ a pop. Oh, better not give them any bright ideas, huh.
It's just a base to run DLC's on. The whole point is to get you to buy more content to fully enjoy the program. Not worth the money to me.
I'm just gonna say this, ♥♥♥♥ you DTG, your business practices are bordering on predatory, you can and will just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ remove DLCs whenever you want, every time I play this ♥♥♥♥-heap of a game its like more and more of my content is going missing for some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason. ♥♥♥♥ you and ♥♥♥♥ your stupid cashgrab waste of oxygen ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game.
Train Simulator Classic (aka RailWorks) after 17 years is hard to rate due to high number of add-ons
It’s bad part is - no remaster on old routes - no multiplayer - too expensive - arcade physics (atleast in old add-ons) The good part is - very active modding community - new routes are high quality Conclusion: For me base game is only needed because community makes a great maps and most of them are free. Also most add-ons are from three countries and not everyone will like it. Overall Score: 5/10
This is definitely not my type of game, I'm just clearing out my collection, so I will judge this game differently. My time was short with this simulator, but it was enough to skip past it. The gameplay is as simple as it gets, from what I explored, with not much input in the control of the trains. The menus are really confusing to navigate through and really counterintuitive. The tutorial just straight didn't work, or I couldn't get it to work. There are some different scenarios to explore and even a built-in editor to create some. For its price tag, the overall pricing, quantity, and need for DLCs (because if you like this type of game, you are going to want more content than what the base version provides), I can't see this being a justifiable purchase.
Dovetail Developers should update this game from single core to multi cores to get rid of freezing and stuttering.
THAT'S WAY TOO MUCH DLC AND IT'S OVERPRICED
