Masterpiece Meets Mediocrity
I just completed the entire series, and my feelings couldn't be more mixed. On one hand, there's Season 1, Season 2, and The Final Season (Season 4), which I consider one of the best narrative arcs ever created in video game history. On the other hand, there's 400 Days (Season 1 DLC), A New Frontier (Season 3), and Michonne, all of which were massive disappointments that significantly drag down the overall quality of the series. I think the biggest problem is that Season 1 is simply a masterpiece. It's one of the best story-driven Telltale games ever made. The downside of reaching such a high level of quality is that anything that follows is almost guaranteed to feel weaker - and that's exactly what happened. 400 Days is an extremely average DLC. It tries to tell the stories of too many characters within such a short runtime that none of them receive enough development to make you truly care. That's one of the reasons why Season 1 works so well: it focuses primarily on Lee, Clementine, and Kenny. By keeping the cast relatively small, the game is able to build much stronger emotional connections than when you're switching protagonists every thirty minutes. Season 2 is definitely weaker than Season 1, but it's still a great game, largely thanks to Kenny's return. Without him, I don't think the second half of the season would have been nearly as compelling. Then comes A New Frontier (Season 3), and wow - this was by far the biggest disappointment in the entire franchise for me. Whose idea was it to reduce Clementine to little more than a side character? You spend two entire seasons building her story, only for her to be pushed aside so you can play as Javi, whose main conflict revolves around his relationship with his brother and competing with him for the same woman. In the middle of a zombie apocalypse, that's hardly the storyline I was hoping to follow. Don't get me wrong - Season 3 also suffers from the same issue as 400 Days: there are too many characters, and none of them receive enough screen time for the player to form a meaningful attachment. As a result, most of them end up feeling generic and forgettable. I was honestly so disappointed with Season 3 that I stopped playing for two months after reaching roughly the halfway point. I just couldn't bring myself to continue. Eventually I came back, finished it, and moved on to Season 4. The Final Season (Season 4) is the closest the series ever comes to matching the quality of Season 1. It's also obvious that its overall structure mirrors Season 1 in many ways, but the setting, characters, and conclusion are different enough that it still feels fresh. The funniest part is that Clementine almost behaves as if Season 3 never happened. She barely mentions Javi or any of the Season 3 characters. The only obvious reference I noticed was an optional mention of Gabe during the card game. Overall, Season 4 is fantastic and delivers an emotional payoff that's almost on par with Season 1. After the painfully average Season 3, I was genuinely happy that the series ended on such a high note. Finally, there's Michonne. I wasn't expecting much, but I actually enjoyed it slightly more than Season 3. Why? Because it's a standalone story that doesn't interfere with the main narrative the way Season 3 did. Its biggest weakness is the plot, which often relies on characters making incredibly questionable decisions just to move the story forward. There's also a strange issue involving Pete. Depending on your choices, you can play Episode 2 without him, which means every objective has to be designed to work in his absence. The result is that even if Pete tags along, he barely contributes anything and spends most of the episode feeling like he isn't even there. It's honestly kind of hilarious how useless he becomes. So yes, I'd call Michonne another average experience. However, unlike Season 3, I actually found myself laughing at some of its ridiculous moments, so I still had a decent time with it. One small tip: if you're playing Michonne Episode 2, don't skip the credits. I did, and the achievement for completing the episode didn't unlock, forcing me to replay it. Overall, I definitely recommend The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series. Considering its price, it makes far more sense to buy the collection than to purchase the individual games separately. That said, if you only want to experience the series at its best, I'd recommend focusing on Season 1, Season 2, and The Final Season (Season 4). Those three tell an incredible story from beginning to end. 400 Days, A New Frontier, and Michonne are all optional, and in my opinion, you're not missing much if you decide to skip them.
7,5 – One of the most memorable storytelling journeys in gaming, even if not every installment reaches the same standard. Seasons 1, 2, and The Final Season are the clear highlights, while 400 Days, A New Frontier, and Michonne add little to the overall experience.
Charakterystyczny komiksowy styl został ujednolicony we wszystkich sezonach, dzięki czemu cała seria wygląda spójniej niż kiedykolwiek wcześniej. Klimatyczna muzyka i znakomity dubbing dodatkowo budują napięcie oraz wzmacniają emocjonalny wydźwięk najważniejszych scen. The Walking Dead: Definitive Edition to obowiązkowa pozycja dla każdego fana gier fabularnych i interaktywnych opowieści. To historia, która potrafi wzruszyć, zaskoczyć i zmusić do refleksji nad konsekwencjami własnych wyborów. Mimo kilku drobnych niedoskonałości technicznych jest to jedna z najbardziej pamiętnych przygód, jakie można przeżyć w świecie gier wideo. Ocena 11/10 ❤ Gdy zapomnę o wartych uwagi info, będę edytowała. Naturalnie, możliwość komentowania pozostaje włączona. Pozdrawiam.
Великолепная серия
Great game, I had fun playing it. But Season 3, oh man, just who tf is Javier Garcia. flipping off the journey and starting a new one with a romantic story out of nowhere, that’s a TOTAL INSULT to ur brain.
Oh boy what a road I have traversed I can’t express the depth of my emotions right now. This series has left me happy, frightened, relieved, shocked, angry at times and deeply saddened. I regret not playing it upon release having wrongly assumed it was just another zombie game I would dislike and abandon I was very mistaken. From Lee Everett who first protected and taught young Clementine through all season one all the way to AJ who Clementine herself raised and protected this profound story beautifully show us Clementine’s long and heartbreaking journey of survival, growth, trust and found family leaving me proud. will done Skybound
my save randomly got deleted by the game after 14 hours, was a very large way through one of the episodes so i figured id watch a recap video, get a few spoilers and move on to the next chapter..... had like 5 major spoilers and i don't want to continue because none of the decisions have been mine and i haven't experienced the most crucial spoilers of the first season
cara...simplesmente viciante jogar esse jogo...o final foi de arrepiar e honestamente eu achei essas 4 temporadas muito mais emocionante que a própria série.
this game is quite impressive. decisions affect a lot of the gameplay and you have limited time to react. Safe to say I loved letting that clementine girl eat the human meat even though i didnt mean to, i was satisfied i did my happy little accident
LONG REVIEW & SPOILERS AHEAD: This game. Wow. Just- Wow. I have, quite frankly, *alot* of words to say about it. My steam playtime cannot ever compare to how long I've ACTUALLY spent playing this game over my lifetime, considering that almost every single gaming platform I've had, I've gotten this game if its's available. I know people like to say "this game changed their lives" to media they enjoy and all that, but... genuinely, that cannot be more true. I first played this game AT clementine's age, and I suppose in a way, saw the world in the same light she did in the first season. I tried to be kind. Tried to do the right thing for Clem, for she was both someone I had to care for, and a peer. I saw Ben for the scared kid he was, rather than the way people view him as a "nuisance". I couldn't fathom the idea of hating Duck. I cried and sobbed my first playthrough because I was "spoiled" that Lee got bit, but was only told that "He gets bit if you don't drop Ben." and that was the ONLY reason I let him go, as much as I hated the idea of letting him die. Learning later in life that WASN'T true, I'll never drop him again. Not once. I still cannot view him as anything other than the mistaken, spooked teen trying his best in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ situation, even if time and age have matured me to realize the nuance of the predicament. The same thing goes for Sarah, Nick, ect.. I just cannot hate them in ways that other people seem to do. (I especially don't understand the hate on Sarah and Duck). This game series has fundamentally changed how I viewed the world, and how I go about life. There's something so impactful having played this WHILE aging just about at the same time as Clementine, and just... effects the way you think, and not just in the game making choices. Now, as an adult, I understand that I was probably a little too young to be playing this game as I was, but. I think it gave me a really unique outlook, and... I don't know. I don't really have the words I want to say, to really convey the meaning of how I feel. What I do know, however, is that I love this game, the story, and all of the characters. So, SO very much. With every fiber of my being, I hold this series as close to my heart as I can. Clementine and Lee, forever <3
The Walking Dead is one of those games that stays with you long after you finish it. The story is amazing, and the characters are written so well that it’s hard not to get attached to them. At the same time, you’ll find yourself genuinely hating some of them. That’s what makes the game so emotional. You never know who’s going to survive, and losing a character you really liked can happen at any moment. The choices are difficult and often don’t have a perfect outcome, which makes every decision feel important. To me, this game is a masterpiece. It’s not a game with the best graphics or gameplay, but that’s never the point. The story, the relationships between the characters, and the emotional moments are what make it so memorable. If you enjoy story-driven games, I can’t recommend this enough. You’ll get a better survival story here than in any survival movie. It’s a beautiful experience that I’ll remember for a very long time.
