I don't write reviews often. But this game holds a special place in my heart. In it's current state, it's like a social game without voice communication built alongside an interesting story-mode where you explore a sea vessel as a sort of ghost on the ship, like a movie you could only experience in vr. This game used to be an incredible place where live actors would come in and play with us, but those days are long since past. Now it's just what I described. That's not to say there isn't *anything* enjoyable, there's still a good bit to explore in the main social area, plenty to discover. Definitely not for everybody, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. (Plus, the lore is fire, and I will love the Timesprites forever)
So cool. This is more of an experience than a game but damn was it worth the price of entry. The art style slaps so hard and the controls are really good, the space warp blink move is my favourite thing, it feels really powerful, I want an action game with that kind of power. I'd love it if hand tracking got added to this game and the controls for it was the same hand movement for the Dishonored blink.
Masterpiece. This is the best VR game with interaction between players. Reminds me "Journey" but much more fun and interesting. Pls add subs for "story mode". At least at engl.
i love original games and creative things like this thats why i love what there devs do love the games keep up the good work!
Full of charm
The story is awesome, the multiplayer is still going, and its a blast to play. TLDR 10/10, This game is very good I hadn't played this game in a few years only to come back and mess around in the multiplayer... some veterans showed me how to repair a building in the corner of the map that led underground and BOOM, It led to an area I had never seen before. Solve some puzzles as a group and you get an awesome reward. Switched servers only to teach the same trick to more people. The Voiceless interaction of the games communication makes interacting with other players so fun. There's no slander being thrown over voice chat if you have to snap your fingers and nod your head to get people to understand you. Not to mention the game play of the Story Mode. My god the story is good, really puts into perspective the reality of the whole thing. I won't spoil too much, Just remember the part about the tiger and the ice. Overall, I think this is my favorite VR game. Its a classic made by good devs who knew what they were doing at the time. 10/10 Would recommend to anyone with a VR headset.

The Under Presents, developed and published by Tender Claws, is an extraordinary and innovative VR experience that defies conventional gaming genres by blending immersive theater, multiplayer interaction, and narrative exploration into a surreal, dreamlike world. Released in late 2019, the game invites players to step into an enigmatic realm known simply as "The Under," a mystical desert space filled with mysterious characters, shifting environments, and layered storytelling. What sets The Under Presents apart is its seamless integration of live performances alongside scripted content, offering a dynamic and ever-changing experience that blurs the boundaries between player and performer. At its core, The Under Presents revolves around exploration and social interaction, encouraging players to engage with one another and with the world around them in meaningful ways. Within this ethereal desert landscape, players can encounter live actors performing theatrical pieces in real-time, participate in interactive rituals, or uncover hidden stories scattered throughout the environment. This merging of live and prerecorded content creates a fluid narrative that evolves with player involvement, making each session feel fresh and unpredictable. The game's multiplayer elements foster a sense of community and shared discovery, enhancing the immersive quality of the experience. A significant portion of the game’s appeal lies in the single-player campaign titled "Timeboat," which transports players aboard a research vessel trapped in the Arctic ice. This narrative-driven segment explores themes of isolation, loss, and time manipulation. Players have the unique ability to interact with past versions of themselves, using time travel mechanics to solve puzzles and influence outcomes. This aspect of the game challenges players to think critically about causality and consequence, deepening the emotional impact of the story. The Timeboat campaign stands as a compelling example of how The Under Presents balances abstract, multiplayer-driven moments with focused, personal storytelling. Visually, The Under Presents employs a stylized, artistic design that perfectly complements its otherworldly themes. The environments combine organic textures with surreal, sometimes mechanical elements, creating a striking and immersive atmosphere that feels both familiar and alien. Character designs are imaginative and diverse, populated by a cast of enigmatic beings that enhance the sense of mystery and intrigue. The audio design further enriches the experience, featuring an evocative soundtrack and ambient sounds that draw players deeper into the world, enhancing both moments of quiet reflection and intense theatricality. Critical reception of The Under Presents highlights its originality and bold ambition. Many players and reviewers commend the game’s successful fusion of VR technology with live performance art, praising its ability to foster genuine presence and connection. The interactive theatrical performances, in particular, have been celebrated as groundbreaking, offering a new form of storytelling that leverages the immersive potential of VR. However, the game’s unconventional structure and sometimes cryptic narrative can present a challenge for players more accustomed to traditional gaming experiences, potentially requiring patience and openness to fully appreciate its depth. In summary, The Under Presents is a daring and unique experience that pushes the boundaries of virtual reality and interactive storytelling. By weaving together elements of live theater, multiplayer engagement, and time-based puzzles, it offers a rich, multilayered journey that is both thought-provoking and emotionally resonant. For those willing to embrace its experimental nature, The Under Presents provides an unforgettable adventure into a mysterious world where reality and fiction intertwine, and every encounter holds the promise of new discovery. Rating: 8/10
Firstly, I absolutely love this game. (Although I played it on Oculus Quest 2 because my computer is the bare minimum for it.) I love the concepts, the singleplayer time mechanics, and especially the multiplayer magic system. Not to mention the way it's all put together with the "stage act" presentation. I especially love the "scrunch" movement system. It's very trippy in a very satisfying way. The multiplayer is so fun. As there's no voice chat, you communicate with other sprites by snapping and gesturing and even using the magic system. The whole trial and error based magic system is really great, especially one that hinges on its community to help new players. It's an awesome sense of community that all combines into one great multiplayer experience with many different puzzles. A lot more games should do this sort of thing. The singleplayer experience of "timeboat" is also pretty solid, if a little lacking in cohesiveness. It's really fun to immerse yourself as an onlooker of the story. The concept shines when every character is doing SOMETHING every moment, and it really shines in Act 1, where every character has their own things to do at the same time as each other, and you really get a feeling that most of everyone is living, breathing person with their own stuff they have planned for the day. Unfortunately, though Act 1 is the most "put together" act in the game, the quality does drop more in future acts, getting more and more vague and confusing, plotwise and characterwise. Some things said in the introduction to the game don't even come into play, which is a little dissapointing as it built up expectations a little too much for what the scope of the story would be. Gameplaywise as well, some of the puzzles can end up tedious, a little broken, confusing as to what the objective is, and/or wayyyy too restricting of time limits. That said, I would still recommend this game, as it's STILL a very solid experience, even with some content lacking and the occasional problems. (And oh boy don't get me started on some of the glitches. Some of them are harmless and fun or very entertaining, but especially a couple in the "timeboat" campaign can really be either frustrating or outright occasionally muting all lines entirely near the end of act 3 due to audio bugs.) I very much do not blame the developers for a lot of the issues, as from what I've heard, the development of this game was actually hell. I just really wish and VERY MUCH HOPE that a lot more will be/was done with the concept. Maybe a potential sequel using this game as a base? DLC even? As a friend and I keep saying, If this concept were truly perfected, This game could probably become a money-printing MACHINE. Even though it doesn't quite hit the potential this game has, it's still a very fun experience, at least in my opinion. I can't wait to see what more the developers could have in store for this game or other future projects!
