I loved the first Surge when I played it on console. Sci-Fi Souls-like which was fairly unique at the time, considering that the game was functional, and scratched that itch. Then a few years after the sequel's release, I finally got my hands on the Surge 2. It is indisputably a better game. The "dismemberment = loot/upgrade mats" thing is the same, the bosses are more interesting, but there's more enemies, loot, and the levels have a higher quality feel to them than the first game's. Not to mention the story is more engaging and cohesive (not to mention its only an indirect sequel, so people who haven't played the first game need not worry about it). It is exactly what it, and every sequel, should be. All of that is why it hurts so much that I cannot recommend this title, and I'm surprised that people do. There is an issue with the game, which has been around since launch. Unlike some negative reviews over bugs or other technical issues, this one seems to be experienced by most players, making it fairly ubiquitous. As part of the game's PC version, a DRM program occasionally runs on computers that are connected to the internet, to make sure you aren't pirating, etc, etc. The issue, for most people, is that this program is unusually CPU-intensive, and often causes the game to drop substantially in frame-rate which, for an action game based around the player and enemies being both reactive and quick, feels really awful, especially later in the game. There are workarounds, and its not game-breaking, but the fact that the developers never changed this, and requires modding or messing with the game's priority settings, etc, means that I just can't recommend it because I KNOW someone who does not have the patience/know-how to do so every time they open the game will quickly come to regret their purchase. Tread with caution.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Do yourself a favor and don't play this game. Unless you would like some more grind for your grind. With a side of grind. Did I mention there's grind? You will walk through the same area 10 times, and then come back to that area later and walk through the same area 10 times again, only this time with more obnoxious environment lighting.
[b] The Surge 2 is a challenging sci-fi action RPG with really solid combat and a unique limb-targeting system that keeps fights interesting. The story is pretty average but the gameplay makes it worth both playing and replaying. P.S.: This was harder than I expected. Completed 100% Playthroughs : 2 Overall Grade : 7.5/10 This is the definition of a game that didn't really need to exist. The original Surge game had a lot of charm for being a lesser known game and it was for the most part a unique and polished experience. This game improved on a few things while making some strange and disappointing choices. The positives : The combat was improved from the original, it's overall faster and less clunky. They also added a cool directional parry that you are heavily incentivized to use. There are also tons and tons of weapons and armors to pick and choose your favorites from. The "talent" system is also easier to use and more interesting. The negatives : The main character is a voiceless random from a barebones character creation instead of continuing Warren's story. Speaking of, there is no story per say, you have a few breadcrumbs to follow but for the most part you are doing someoneone's errands. Those someones are NPCS who are in this game completely lifeless and behave like this disaster that has ruined their city has been there their whole lives, like it's the norm and they are used to it. The endings, both of which you are forced to get for the achievement, are chosen after the last boss and are a couple of sentences. The areas are also huge and easy to get lost in, but to be fair that was a problem in the original as well. Overall the game feels like it was made by a fan of the original without any real direction, but as I can see now it's 2.99 on sale so if you liked the Surge, pick it up just for the combat.
Game is awesome. Combat is solid (those of you crying about the blocking, git gud), overall environment is good, music is decent and the enemies are pretty cool. A bit easier than the first one but I think its better.
So The Surge 2 introduced blocking mechanics with indicators from which direction you should block. Unfortunately this new machnic is MANDATORY to use, but only after a certain point. I've spend hours to kill a boss and got wrecked by mechanics that I clearly dodged, but since I have to block it, it hit anyway. I am in favour of adding new mechanics but not if they are mandatory and flip the entire gameflow from the first game (and 10h of this game which I went easily without blocking) on the head. Also unlike the first game there are NPCs everywhere. The atmosphere of the story is less heavy and misses the charm of the first game's fantastic vibes. After years I binged the first game for another 2 playthroughs in one weekend and gave this one a second chance just to quit less than 2 hours into it. This game feels like a glorified streetfight simulator. Sad
Wasn't a great sequel, now it seems even more broken with the removal of the online servers, code isn't coding.
The Surge 2 delivers polished gameplay, rewarding progression, and some of the best melee combat in the Souls-like genre
This is quite possibly the most un-fun game I've ever played. If you enjoy cliche sci-fi stories, monotonous combat and bland apocalyptic environments... Knock yourself out I guess. I however am gonna re-evaluate whatever life choices led me to spending 19 hours playing this game.
