Reviews
A child of Nier Automata and Bayonetta. Fast paced combat, ugly enemies and brutal killing of them, multiple customisation options and Lily. 9/10, gonna do NG+ one day.
Stellar Blade is competent and more than meets the eye. It borrows a lot of concepts from Nier: Automata and Alita Battle angle, but also has its own identity too, however games not perfect and has several flaws that I hope get ironed out in the sequel. -Adam's comments and dialog makes him sound like he's planning to backstab you the entire game, and I don't think it's on purpose. -The game holds your hand a lot with both yellow paint everywhere, a scan function, backseat gaming from side characters, and a hint system. The yellow paint is explained through lore, but it would be nice if instead of all of it, it was just the scan giving a little navigation hint. like in dead space. - There is like 10x the upgrade materials in the game than what you need to max out your character and nothing to do with it after your maxed out. SO MANY awards for side quests, chests, crates, etc are pointless when your half way through the game. - The game is rear end heavy, with roughly a third of the game being locked behind a linear end game sequence. This includes around 4 of the 9 bosses. Gives the illusion the games longer than it actually is.
Stellar Blade is an AAA action slasher. The story follows an android dropping down to Earth to smack around biological horrors. While the plot is fairly straightforward through most of the campaign, it picks up and delivers its most compelling twists near the end. Fun fact: Shift Up really put DualSense support to work on PC! It's super rare for PC ports to fully utilize the haptic triggers and touchpad so seamlessly. The Short Answer: Is It Worth Buying? If you have a controller, love stylish slashers, and appreciate gorgeous character designs—YES, YES, YES! Playtime 6/10 Around 30–40 hours if you take your time and clear out the side content. Story 7/10 An android lands on ruined Earth to fight monstrous organic threats, leading to a simple setup that saves its coolest reveals for the climax. Music 8/10 GORGEOUS music. It heavily rivals NieR's soundtrack, but features even better dynamic transitions that swap tracks at the exact right moments! Graphics 8/10 Top-tier AAA quality with breathtaking landscapes and incredible visual fidelity. Mechanics 7/10 The baseline gameplay feels similar to NieR: Automata—run around, collect materials for gear upgrades, and unlock stylish outfits. Is grinding required? If you don't care about collecting outfits, no; but the costumes are way too cool to pass up. Boss encounters left me with mixed feelings: while the bosses and mobs are distinct and varied, the vast majority of bosses are crammed into the final 25% of the game, leaving the early sections feeling a bit bare. Side quests mostly stick to standard "fetch quest" formulas, with only 2–3 side missions offering unique stories or mechanics. Ranged shooting feels a bit so-so. You can't switch weapons, and there is only one primary combat style throughout the game. Dodge and parry timings require some getting used to because they aren't standard Soulsborne timings—they lean closer to NieR and demand precise frame inputs rather than panic-button presses. The final boss fights are brutal: mess up the start of an enemy combo and you'll eat massive damage, but overextend your own combo without finishing it and you'll get instantly punished. The encounters are fast, active, and never feel dragged out. Personal Take /10 The animations for both Eve and the monsters are simply magnificent. Controlling Eve and running through quests is an absolute joy. The world itself feels pretty sparse, but it never becomes annoying—though you start losing immersion from the second major map onward (the first area is great). In my opinion, Stellar Blade actually edges out NieR: Automata in core gameplay feel, even if NieR retains higher replayability. The environments are gorgeous, though it ultimately remains a fantastic, one-time-clear experience. Overall Score: 79/100
