If you've watched a game trailer or footage of actual play, then you already know that Soul Hackers 2 is beautiful. It was the first thing that drew me into the game, and I wasn't let down. Other pros: Music is a high point in the game, especially the way it seamlessly shifts between calmer moments and enemy encounters. You get a lot of variation in the music, too, between different areas of the game. SH2 also offers a few fun demon variations you'll only find in this game. There's also not a lot of pointless exposition in the game unlike a lot of other JRPG's, which is nice. Dialogue, then, is pretty fun here, especially Ringo's snappy wit and spunkiness. And if you're an Atlus fan who'd like to play as a female main character for a change, you could certainly do much worse than Ringo. The story's pretty good, too, but it's clear that the "Lost Numbers" DLC should've just been part of the original game itself. Combat is fun and often challenging, especially on hard, though not as challenging overall as some of Atlus' offerings. The end boss, in particular, wasn't super challenging, especially if you play a lot of Atlus games--but not a pushover either. Cons: The "sabbath" game mechanic makes for an intriguing alternative to Atlus' famed press turn combat mechanic, but it should've definitely been developed more before release. Nulls, resistance, and status ailments don't mean as much as in other Atlus games, which really narrows the combat a lot of times to focusing almost entirely on attacking enemy weaknesses. Likewise, as Atlus has become known for, they clearly cut some of the best content that should've been in the game to sell it as a DLC. The most glaring issue with the game though is its dungeon design. While the dungeons look good, they're not fun to navigate, they get pretty repetitive, and they aren't particularly creative or interesting overall. Important note for dungeons: If you're like me, you may not have realized immediately that the teleporting portals allow you to move between different floors of dungeons, not just between different areas on the same floor. The on-screen map for dungeons can be pretty annoying, too, especially if you're trying to move it around on the screen. You should also be able to zoom in more and zoom out more. Instead or in addition to the on-screen map, a pause screen map would've been amazing. This is a turn-based RPG with a map after all so why WOULDN'T you have a pause screen map? Overall: A fun game, especially if you get it on sale.
Great game overall, gorgeous art style, great combat, customization and characters, not the best story but decent an functional. On the other hand the soul matrix was unnecessarily long and the maps design were really bland, only the effin soul matrix and the last dungeon were really good, the others felt really uninspired, and I didn't forgot how Sega cut one dungeon and side quest to charged it for 10 bucks, alongside locking behind a pay wall demons but most importantly Nemisa which is one of the protagonist of the first Soul Hackers. This game is worth it, I recommend that you wait for sales to pick it, the last time I saw this game was 10-15 bucks.
