EVOLVE WITH EACH AGE OR STAND THE TEST OF TIME
Lead your empire through distinct Ages of human history. Across the Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern Ages, choose whether to lead one Time-Tested civilization from start to finish, have it strategically evolve to flourish with a new identity in the next Age, or split the difference through hybridization. As accomplishing scientific, cultural, militaristic, and economic milestones within each Age unlocks advantages in the next, you'll decide how and when your empire's identity and strategy develop.
CHART YOUR OWN PATH TO VICTORY
Shape your empire's unique story by pursuing a wide range of distinct Triumphs, attribute-based objectives that offer a player-driven experience. As each new Age expands the game's scope, it also brings opportunities to borrow elements from other civs, unlock new bonuses, and achieve Victory in myriad new and exciting ways. Order Commanders to move armies as one, engage enemies with revamped combat mechanics, equip swappable leader bonuses across campaigns with Mementos, and much more.
PLAY AS VISIONARY LEADERS OF PROGRESS
Embody illustrious leaders with one of Civilization's most diverse rosters yet, from traditional heads of state known for militaristic might or political prowess to visionaries who made lasting impacts on philosophy, science, human rights, and more. Your chosen leader will endure across the Ages, with a unique ability that can help reinforce or pivot your strategy from one Age into the next. For the first time in franchise history, leader selection is separate from your civilization, giving you the freedom to create all-new strategies by mixing and matching gameplay bonuses.
EXPLORE A WORLD VIVIDLY BROUGHT TO LIFE
Make your mark on a gorgeously detailed world! Your empire comes to life with a diverse range of cultural styles, represented across building architecture and Unit design. Traverse navigable rivers, explore the map's undiscovered reaches, and extend your borders with new Cities or specialized Towns. As your lavishly rendered territory expands, all of your scenic vistas, vibrant metropolises, and fledgling frontier territories will connect seamlessly across the ever-changing landscape.
TEST YOUR STRATEGIC METTLE IN MULTIPLAYER

Up to eight players supported in the Modern Age. Map size restrictions may apply to certain cross-play multiplayer games. Terms apply.

This has the potential to be one of the greatest Civilization games in the franchise. The animations are incredible. The music is (at times) the greatest I've heard since Beyond Earth. The combat is the greatest of any Civilization game with the addition of Commanders, Armies, Fleets, and Squadrons. However, it is currently the most tedious, frustrating game I have ever played simply because of how they reworked victories in the Test of Time update. The victories were ironically better before the much-anticipated Test of Time update that was supposed to "fix" a lot of things. Now, I could work toward a climactic science victory for days at a time in a single game, only to have the game randomly lower the victory point threshold for the military victory and suddenly, I win a military victory immediately without explanation. There is no way to change this in the settings of the game. In another game, I worked towards a cultural victory for, again, days at a time, only to realize that I had 10 turns left before I lost to a score victory (that I'm not even allowed to turn off anymore). So, I quickly changed tactics to win a quick, easy, and stupid generic military victory, only to have the game suddenly change its mind literally 2 turns before I win and allow me to win a cultural victory instead and have me wait another 5 turns. Talk about yanking the leash back and forth. I eventually did win the cultural victory (after reloading old saves several times to overcome the stupid mechanic of the game bumping the victory point threshold with zero warning again). And then there are all of the victory cinematics which are now completely anti-climactic, generic, and the quotes and narrations for it are remarkably dull, stupid, and boring. Again, this game will be among the best when it is finished. I know the future expansions they've unofficially announced (through their surveys) hold amazing promise and potential and I expect them to change and fix a lot of the weaknesses of the current state of the game. However, I find myself not wanting to return to this game for now and would rather revisit older classics that felt way more rewarding like Civs 4, 5, 6, and Beyond Earth. I will recommend this game after time has passed and changes have been made.
I've got over 9000hrs on Civ 5 and Civ 6, believe me Civ 7 has some way to go to catch up with the previous two. I have played all Civ games, right from the beginning and I have thoroughly enjoyed them all however Civ 7 is still to bitty, has that broken feel, not smooth, only my opinion. It saddens me to say that I currently can not recommend this game. I like change but.....I'm sure it'll get there.
I know the reviews were mixed but it was on sale and I decided to try it... wow, I should have listed to my gut. I'm sorry, playing the most basic of game, the default for playing it for the first time, and turns taking 5-10 minutes is a bit much for me. I don't care how great the visuals look, if you can't bloody play the game, than they're worthless. I waited 15 months after the game's release date and it's still something that needs work. I'm going to reinstall 5 or 6 to get my fix.
Held off for a %50 off sale. Still feel like this should be the first steam game I ask for a refund for. Feel like games from a company this size should not crash this much. Why block mods on a single player game? If i want to mod my game how is that hurting anyones experiance? Been a big fan of the Civ games and all Sids games my whole life, It will be tough for me to come back for CIV8...
glad I waited till the game was on a massive sale earlier. Not worth it. Civ6 significantly better. It's not the worst thing in the world....but needs to die much like Concorde did. Who's idea was it to allow Ben Franklin be the leader of the Japanese empire? WTF lol A better choice would have been same civilization or it's evolved version with different EMPIRE APPROPRIATE leaders. Graphics are nice...sure but that only gets you so far. Tried waiting for most of the major updates over the last few months.....eh
The game only got to an acceptable level and Firaxis immediately try to charge us £25 quid for a DLC which is a few new leaders and Civs... Pathetic. I bought the deluxe edition at launch and it may be the worst value I've ever gotten in buying a game. It got me a sub standard game that I would need to pay even more just to see if its even ok? Extremely disappointing game quality and outrageous pricing. It's an ok game now, but that's all.
The new update absolute sucks. The changes make it a completely different game (I liked the OG version). Feels like each age matters less now. Stay away.
Waste of money. I want to play a game, not fight with Denuvo. Purchased and downloaded. Firewall off, VPN off. Getting Unable to connect to servers. Not on the 6th or 7th start. On the FIRST start. CIVs III through VI, plus Starships, play fine. I want my money back. I should not have to leave my system hanging wide open to play your game.
A downgrade from Civ V and VI. The interface is clunky for PC and difficult to navigate. Default key bindings are a nightmare, I find myself making irreversible mistakes constantly because I hit right-click instead of dragging items with left click (a complete switch up from previous games). Combat is improved with the ability to combine and deploy units with commanders. The city building system is confusing, it seems more difficult to plan cities than earlier games.
I'll agree with many others - the game seems unfinished. There's no consolidated management views - no easy way to look across your cities or your troops. Combat mechanics are very clearly broken and buggy. Leaders and civs are wildly unbalanced, and many of the things that made older Civ games so charming - building the space ship, decorating the throne room, etc - are wholly absent.
