Shamania is one of those games that constantly hints at being something great, but never actually gets there. The premise is interesting, the world has some charm, and the early hours make you think you're building toward a deep settlement management and survival experience. Unfortunately, the deeper you get, the more you realize how many of the core systems feel unfinished. The NPCs you hire are a perfect example. They gather resources, but that's about where their usefulness ends. They don't intelligently help manage your settlement, they don't store what they collect, and they require far more babysitting than they should. Instead of feeling like you've built a thriving village, it feels like you've hired a handful of lifeless robots that perform one task and then stand around waiting for more instructions. That lack of polish extends throughout the entire game. Basic quality-of-life features that should support the core gameplay loop are either missing or underdeveloped. Inventory management becomes tedious, logistics are unnecessarily manual, and progression never reaches the point where your settlement feels increasingly self-sufficient. Rather than unlocking better ways to play, you just unlock more chores. The game also suffers from repetition. Gathering, crafting, and progression eventually become a cycle of doing the same things over and over with very little sense of growth or payoff. I kept waiting for some mechanic that would fundamentally change how the game played, but it never arrived. What disappointed me just as much was the complete lack of communication. I reached out through email and Discord asking about the future of the game and never received a response anywhere. Maybe the developers are still around, maybe they're not—but from a customer's perspective, complete silence doesn't inspire confidence. When players are asking whether a game has a future, disappearing from the conversation is never a good look. The frustrating part is that the foundation isn't bad. There are flashes of a genuinely enjoyable colony-survival game here. With smarter NPC behavior, meaningful automation, stronger logistics, and a host of basic quality-of-life improvements, I think this could have been something I recommended. Instead, it feels like a promising idea that stopped short of becoming the game it should have been. Unless you're willing to overlook repetitive gameplay, shallow settlement management, and a surprising amount of missing polish, I'd spend my money elsewhere.
need the game to be controller gameplay also instead of just keybored and mouse
Very cozy game, some combat, but it's very cute and fun. Bought it as soon as it came out and no regrets, haven't touched it much recently as it did get a little boring but that's just my taste as other games came out but it's def fun! Would highly recommend- it's cute, cozy, whimsical, with a side of combat so it isn't just a survival game.
Shamania, developed and published by Totem Keepers Games, presents itself as a cooperative survival RPG that combines open-world exploration with crafting and progression systems in a lighthearted fantasy setting. Rather than pursuing the harsh survival mechanics popularized by many genre staples, the game opts for a more welcoming experience centered on adventure, community building, and steady character development. The result is a title that feels approachable from the outset, appealing to players who prefer discovery and creativity over constant pressure and unforgiving survival mechanics. The game's core loop revolves around gathering resources, establishing a settlement, and improving a variety of professions. Activities such as mining, fishing, and herbalism are more than simple side tasks; they form the foundation of progression and encourage players to invest time in specialized paths. This profession-based structure gives each session a sense of purpose, as even seemingly minor tasks contribute to unlocking better equipment, recipes, and tools. Base construction is another highlight, allowing players to create personalized homes and communal hubs that evolve alongside their characters. Playing with friends amplifies these systems considerably, turning routine resource runs into collaborative adventures. Exploration is where Shamania showcases much of its personality. The world is colorful and inviting, featuring diverse environments filled with creatures, hidden points of interest, and opportunities to gather valuable materials. The addition of mounts and the freedom to roam at one's own pace reinforce the game's relaxed tone. There is an enjoyable sense of progression as players gradually push farther from their starting location, uncovering new areas and expanding their capabilities. While the map succeeds in creating a sense of wonder, some regions and encounters can begin to feel familiar after extended play, suggesting there is still room for additional content and environmental variety in future updates. Crafting is tightly interwoven with every aspect of the experience. Nearly every item serves a purpose, whether it contributes to construction projects, equipment upgrades, or profession advancement. The system is easy to understand, making it accessible to newcomers while still offering enough depth to maintain engagement over time. However, the game's straightforward approach can occasionally work against it, as progression paths are often clearly defined and leave little room for experimentation. Players who enjoy unpredictable loot systems or highly customizable builds may find the experience somewhat restrained, though others will appreciate its clarity and consistency. Combat provides functional support for the broader adventure but does not emerge as the game's strongest feature. Battles against hostile creatures are enjoyable in short bursts, especially when undertaken with a group, but the mechanics lack the complexity and responsiveness seen in more combat-focused RPGs. Enemy behaviors are relatively simple, and encounters can become repetitive during longer sessions. Fortunately, Shamania does not rely solely on combat to sustain interest. Its emphasis on exploration, crafting, and cooperative play ensures that fighting remains just one component of a larger experience rather than the defining attraction. From a technical standpoint, the game delivers a solid package for an independent project. Performance is generally stable, and features such as online multiplayer, Steam achievements, cloud saves, and multiple language options enhance its accessibility. Totem Keepers Games has also demonstrated a commitment to improving the title through updates and community engagement, which is encouraging for players considering a long-term investment. Although certain mechanics still feel like works in progress, the foundation is strong enough to suggest a promising future. Shamania succeeds by embracing a more relaxed interpretation of the survival genre. It may not redefine open-world RPGs or offer the deepest combat systems available, but its charming presentation, rewarding progression systems, and cooperative focus make it an enjoyable experience for players seeking a fantasy sandbox to share with friends. It is a game built around gradual growth and exploration, and while there are areas that could benefit from further refinement, it already provides a satisfying and memorable journey. Rating: 7/10
I want to recommend this game. it was fun to play and I look forward to more content! However, I don't recommend it due to the fact that there isn't a way to finish it. There isn't any information on where to find the Storm Essence.
I was undecided about whether to give this game a try. Then I saw a video by youtuber 313VeeGaming. Her comments and the gameplay I saw tipped the balance for me. I bought the game and no regrets (Well a friend bought it for me as a late Xmas gift at my request :D). What you see is what you get. This is a game in real early access and the devs seem to be using the opportunity to interact with their players and make changes according to feedback. First thing for me is that this game is a lot of fun. It is still in development and the final boss has yet to be added, but there are four of the earlier bosses in place. Lots of mats to collect and items to craft in order to progress. Fishing is very accessible and a good path to making a bit of gold, though you do need to be able to kill the spiders in the next biome to get the line. Building is basic but the obelisk system is well developed and gives a clear progression path. There are four biomes atm and they are filled with lots of mobs and their difficulty is variable. Spiders and the poppers are the most dangerous I think. The day/night cycle makes a difference and I wish the days were a bit longer. And the storms are awesome. Those lightning strikes will surely wake you up! The night and rain make it so dark at times it can be difficult to see. The spells are useful but less impactful than I expected but my dual wield glaives and bow more than make up for that. And my mount!!! Have to say I took some risks to get it earlier. So Awesome. Can't be a gamer and not want to ride one of these. All in all, it is a lot of fun now and I expect it will become more so as they add more content, QoL elements and tweaks. As I write this review I have played the game through as far as it can be played at this stage, I have all the current achievements, and I have played for 41 hours and I am contemplating rolling my next character and playing it again so I can try some different ideas. I do tend to play the games I buy into the ground. Totally worth the price.
I have to say at its current state i cannot say that i would suggest the game, the game world feels kinda empty i would wish it would have much more than it currently has and it does still need some fixing with bugs and overall gamefeel.
Очень Классная игра. Самое то скоротать время с друзьями, девушкой или одному!
