after almost 1k hours in this game, i can say, it is a really frustrating game. The early game seems pretty balanced. the progression feels good. exploration is fun and exciting. but once you hit mid to late game, its abysmal. Oh whats that, you just spent the last 20 hours preparing yourself for the plains? whats that? youve upgraded all your gear to the best gear you can have and have eaten the best foods you can get? oh, well that doesnt matter since a single 1 star fuling can one shot you. oh, and since you died all your good stuff in on that corpse so good luck not getting killed again since your health is tied to the foods you eat. not to mention the skill levels you lose when you die. whats that? it takes hours to raise your skills up? oh, but it takes just one hit to undo 3 hours of work... Dont even get me started with the ashlands and how many mobs spawn in. its just stupidly difficult. Suffice to say, this game really needs balancing for mid to late game. Sure, am I playing in the more harder difficulties? Yeah. But should the difficulty be this extreme? absolutely not. This game could really use some QoL updates as well. I mean, the limited inventory space kills you. once you get to mid game, 60% of your inventory is taken up by just your gear. Proxy craft would also be a warm welcome. I think in the modern age of survival fantasy games, proxy craft should be standard. Or, at the very least, let us pin the recipe. I do want to love this game, but I feel like this game has been left behind by many other games out there. TL;DR: Needs better balancing for mid-to-late game. Desperately needs QoL improvements.
Quite frankly, this is an incredible game, no matter what you compare it to, which is even more impressive given it's not out of early access yet The devs are continuously supporting with bug fixes, small and regular updates and even seasonal and april 1. patches Valheim has such a unique, special way of letting you interact with the world. I find it to be my favourite "build your comfy, cool world" type game The graphics are genuinely inspiring, the sound design is beautiful and the vibes are impeccable I find the natural progression and the skill system very fun to engage with Lastly, with or without mods, alone or with friends, this game has a lot to offer and I really recommend it Thank you Iron Gate for this incredible piece of art and thank you for reading this. I hope you have a good time
The combat is way too janky to be enjoyable. The storage is extremely inconvenient to the point that it detracts from the game being enjoyable. Easy quality of life things are just not implemented. I did not enjoy this game.
Valhiem is not a game for the weak. Valhiem is a beautiful game, the soundtrack is amazing but is hard. Most of the negative Reviews will be players saying it is to hard. The key to valhiem is preparation, the further you are into the game, the more preparation is required. Pros - Lovely game functioning combat system not to much drain on the computer Excellent building system Cons- Soo so many hours, just in preparation, if you don't have the proper foods, potions, armor and weaponary, then you will spend more time in the base preparing. On death everything you had will be on you, so if you didn't Prepare, then there wouldn't be a portal connecting your last voyage to the main island, this means sending back the player because they won't be able to retrieve their gear for a while. Overall, it is a great game. With many enjoyable aspects, as much as i hate a wolf raid while mining silver, it is do able.
Valheim showed huge potential, but each step of Early Access rushes to the next major biome while leaving glaring issues with the prior one unaddressed. I'm not sure to what extent the Iron Gate team is reading feedback about the overall experience. These issues start early, but begin severely compounding with the Swamp. Iron, used for support beams, is finite unless you farm a rare drop from a rare enemy for a trickle. A later biome showers you in a different metal that can't be used for support beams. Sailing is a fundamentally empty experience, in spite of how essential it is to getting established and exploring new lands. This gets even worse when bad streaks of wind direction RNG force you to tack or reroute. Rather than the ocean gaining any content, the need to sail is instead trivialized once you go through the Ashlands and can make portals that don't reject metal. Combat is increasingly plagued by issues that go well beyond gear gaps. Balance and AI are all over the place, as exemplified by the Ashlands. The entire biome is meant to have an alternative feel of constant hostility and a focus on sieging enemy fortresses. These fortresses are empty and can be dirt-pillared into. Your allies will die by recklessly charging through lava or trying to fight in it. The biome boss can randomly leave or camp in lava. In conclusion: The flow of Valheim is interrupted by sudden and persistent instances of broken, empty content, and the releases leave them unaddressed to add the next piece of content that will in turn suffer the same problems. 1.0 is approaching, and all that seems to be on the horizon is another content drop. Even if the Deep North ends up proving amazing when taken in isolation, there is too much jank along the way for me to recommend Valheim to new players. Get it if you really, really like the building style and don't mind playing with material costs disabled. Otherwise, wait for post-release notes to see if the major gaps left by the wayside will be addressed.
Played this game with my partner a lot who recently passed. I have picked it back up and it's given me a lot of comfort in my grief to share a game with someone I love and memories of the times we played it. Can't wait for 1.0.

This isn't a survival game at all. This is a resource gather/mindless farming simulator that just demands that you kill a very large number of rare enemies before finally getting your hands on the components you need to travel to the next area and repeat the process over and over
Ashlands is my favorite part of this game. Valheim offers some of the best atmosphere and building I have seen in almost any game, the ambience, the music, the exploration is truly wonderful. It is difficult yes, and you will die, but ultimately the game pushes you forward slowly but surely through each biome. The meadows start off strong with visually one of the best soundtracks in gaming, and the black forest makes for a quick change of environs to show you just how rich things can be. If you are lucky in the distance early on you will find a mountain with impassable cold, each detail for the world leading you onto the next. It is a wonderful journey and discovering new items to build new things to make new weapons and armors and decorations is truly some of the best hours I have spent in gaming. Ashlands is my favorite biome for all of these reasons. It takes everything above, the exploration, the vistas, the ambience, the joy of gearing up, and it wraps them all up nicely in a present with a neat little bow. It then takes that present, and positions itself precariously above it, and you wonder what it could be doing with such joy. It then squashes it, the whole thing, and hands it too you. Ashlands, contains nothing but broken fragments of the rest of the game, and its worst bits magnified. Combat is frustrating, not brutal. Exploration is tedious, not rewarding. Ambience is dead, not desolate. It is an ugly, awful, massively disappointing hellscape that masquerades as a battlefield biome, when in actuality it is about as deep as a roblox zombie wave fighting game. Not a single things does this biome do better than any of the others you experience, everything about it from start to finish is just purely the worst experiences in valheim. There is no reward in overcoming it, there is no joy in exploring it, there is nothing about this biome that is redeemable. It ruins the rest of valheim by merely existing, in stark contrast to hours of a better game, and pretending to be somehow much more than that. There will be people who will tell you on every post about it that its been nerfed, its easier, its simple. Those people are lying to you and themselves. They will tell you that it has amazing gear, that you need to use siege weapons, and that you shouldn't build bases in the ashlands, bring very little and do short excursions. They are all lying to you, and I will tell you the only thing you need to know about ashlands; there is one singular best weapon in the game for this biome and it is from the beginning of the game. The Hoe. Dirt pillars is your big warfare tool, you need nothing else. No planning, strategy, no build optimizing or food buff will outweigh the usefulness of simply dirt pillaring your way through this biome. "But why is ashlands your favorite biome?" Its simple, really. Ashlands shows me how much I love everything about this game. It shows me how much the views of the world matter, the small moments of exploration building little bases and campfires with friends, the travel to new lands and the cooking of food at home. The building of farms and castles, sailing and fishing, the calm music and the raging storms. I love it all so much, and ashlands shows me a world without any of that. I am so excited for the next biome, for 1.0 now Because whatever it is, it will not be ashlands, and that is always an improvement.
Even though Valheim at first kind of looks like it came out in the early 2000s, it manages to stop me in my tracks and make me gaze at the beauty of this world. The atmosphere in this game is simply unmatched. I feel like I live there when I play. It somehow manages to be charming, cozy, breathtakingly beautiful, creepy, and scary all at the same time, with every little (and huge) creature trying to kill you. And succeeding! For me, the most fun parts are coming up with new building ideas, finding prettier ways to decorate my base, growing plants, taming animals, cooking new meals, and gathering resources for future adventures. I came for the Viking survival experience and became a farmer with severe hoarding tendencies. However, one-shotting mobs with my cool-ass bow is also a lot of fun! 10/10.
