You're a security officer deep within Area 51. Scan the staff, verify clearances, and decide who can enter the elevator and who absolutely mustn't leave. The deeper you go, the less certain you are that anyone standing before you is still human.
Modeled estimate, not a reported figure. How we estimate →
Security 51 is an atmospheric security guard simulator inspired by Papers, Please, and SCP paranoia. You're on duty in the underground bunker of Area 51, where the most dangerous part begins at the elevator: the shaft descends for miles down to unknown levels. Whether it's laboratories, anomalies, inhumane experiments, or something alien—you're not supposed to know. Your task is simple: let in those who have access and stop those who don't... even if everything looks "right" on the surface.
Everyone who passes through your checkpoint carries papers and passes. Your job is to check names, positions, clearance levels, and time, ensuring the number of people entering and leaving matches, and pay attention to any oddities. As time passes you'll catch yourself thinking that something's wrong more and more, and the only thing to rely on will be the protocols. But even they can be wrong.
With experience, you'll gain increasingly more accurate methods of identity verification, such as blood testing. Did that janitor simply open the wrong door, or are they a spy for an enemy government? Or are they not even human? When in doubt, quarantine the suspect. Sometimes you'll make mistakes and lock up an ordinary employee, and sometimes you'll find a titanium cell ripped open from the inside. Some decisions will have immediate consequences, others only after several shifts.
The consequences of every mistake go far beyond issues in the workplace. Let the wrong person out, and the infection will ravage the city. Isolate suspicious employees, investigate anomalies, and launch new operations to contain the threat before it's too late.
Remember, it's not just about who you let in, but who or what you let out into the world.

Reviews
I swear the positive reviews are written by friends of the dev, because how are people REALLY reducing the negative reviews to simply complaints from noob players who can't handle hard games? All criticisms in the negative reviews are valid: the game is short, the mechanics are too simple, no choices (or mistakes) matter, nothing is at stake, the dialogue is either non-existent or cringy, and the endgame is a hilariously lazy choice by the dev. None of the new mechanics make a difference to the story or gameplay, so the devs are really assuming that players are in it for the pure joy of reviewing documents. But worst of all is that this game almost certainly contains undisclosed instances of AI-generated art, vibe coding, or both, which is almost reassuring, because that would explain the quality. This game alone has turned me off to Alawar games and doesn't even justify it's $10 price tag. Skip this and just play the games that it was clearly inspired by.

There is a lot of valid criticism regarding the game, but some of it is plain silly and is heavily diluting the games review rating. I want to address two of these critiques: 1. People complaining about the voice acting being in a "simlish" style and refusing to interact further with the game due to this are the first of these that I want to address. I also don't love the style and would prefer if there was an option to turn it off and just add a typewriter sound effect for the text dialogue, but I don't think that alone deserves a negative rating. A valid concern regarding the dialogue is more that it is extremely repetitive due to there not being many lines and also that the daily papers are way too repetitive. There desperately needs to be more variety around both of them. 2. People complaining that some mechanics don't work and that the game is bugged due to the fact they are being told they are incorrect. This critique is actually what I consider a self-report when it comes to reading comprehension skills. The game lays out rulesets and even tells you that the daily changing rules have a hierarchy, with some overruling others. While I understand this can be confusing at first, this critique is more similar to a person saying that the game is simply to hard for them. Personally I think the game was very enjoyable for the time I have played. The game itself tries to make an interesting way to replay the game (although the tutorials appearing again is an annoyance) and I commend it for that although I am not sure if it actually has any sort of true reward to following it through all the way or if its just a way to play parts of the game with different outcomes. My personal gripes with the game come down to the fact that the game never seems to go far enough with its concepts. Detaining people feels stale and boring with no true meaning behind the tests you conduct on them, leaving it feeling as more of a monotonous routine. Along with that the different ways to check visitors boil down to three types of tests; blood testing, scanning of different types, and ID checks. Every new concept it adds is just the same of one of these three. I thoroughly enjoyed my first playthrough which is why I am giving it a positive review, but at the same time I can't see myself playing this again unless more is added.
I was very curious about this game, I love both Papers Please and the SCP universe, so this was supposed to be right up my alley. Unfortunately, as it is now, I can't really recommend this game. The little I saw was already off-putting enough for me. And I'm sad cause I really wanted to like this game. The thing that's preventing me the most from playing right now is how bad the voice acting is. I get what they tried to do, some generic voices that say non-words in something like simlish. Except people that do that are still professionals, and all the voices here were done by one single guy, who made silly voices for every female character. I don't have any other description to give but "cringe", especially hearing them over and over and over again. Other stuff that bothered me were: - the playable character telling me every time "I can't let this guy pass!". Let ME play the game. - having to move the camera up and down every time made the gameplay very clunky. The amount of similar stuff to Papers Please makes drawing a comparison almost mandatory: there you didn't have to move your camera anywhere, everything was within your sights, it made for a much smoother gameplay. If you're gonna "copy" something, learn what makes that game good first. - some interactions were just plain awkward. Very early into the game, a guy will turn into a sort of bug-person who is supposed to be shot on sight. He sits there for the longest 4 seconds of my life, then you hand it back its documents???? He is quickly escorted to the side and SHOT immediately. This takes like 2 seconds tops. The pacing is ♥♥♥♥♥♥, it makes it look just comical and awkward. Again go to Papers Please and look at the pacing of similar interactions. Last but not least: my artist ass is fairly convinced the banner pic (which appears in the game as big as possible) is a bad attempt at hiding an AI-generated image. Someone (not too experienced in digital painting) tried to hide it by color-picking and painting over with wide and messy brush-strokes, forgot to fix the uneven logo on the sleeve, which is much more high detail than anything else. and also ignored details that just disappear in the background. There is no reason the logo on the sleeve should be that way if it wasn't an AI-paintover. I cannot support people who use AI in their workflow, so I'm gonna refund this.
Somehow it became a bit worse than the demo. I did like the isolator change - in the sense that it is at least working. But every single mechanic is so shallow it is almost unbelievable. Why, for example, the option to ask for a medical record is available, when entry conditions no longer specify it?? Why isn't having a valid record an excuse to not be shot? I dunno. And now we have a lot less funds - never enough for a good upgrade. Instead we got a stupid panda figure - who the hell asked for that?
So, there are several negative rules claiming this game has bugs which trigger rule violations where none occurred. Do not believe those reviews, they are being posted by dum-dums who are not reading the instructions, not following the order of operations, and generally lack attention to detail. Rather than admit to themselves they missed something, these sad fragile individuals jump to the conclusion the game is bugged. It's not. Blasted though my first playthrough, managing to save humanity. No bugs detected so far. I did not find it too difficult; however I played the s**t out of Papers Please so I am used to this sort o gameplay. There are branching paths with different endings, so the game should have some degree of replayability. My main gripes are the lack of challenge, and the short length of my playthrough. Hopefully the devs will make a hard mode or something for us Papers vets. Maybe longer or more complicated sets of rules, requiring us to use more of the analysis tools in any given encounter. By the end of Papers you were comparing information across potentially seven or eight different documents depending on which country the person came from, their reason for immigrating, etc. It was pure madness and I loved it. The foundation for that is already here, but it feels like the difficulty has been dumbed down for a wider audience. Once again, I think this can be easily corrected with a hard mode, or perhaps endless or challenge modes. Gripes aside, the game is well made and I enjoyed the experience. It is well worth the $10.
The trailer made this game look alot more fun and interesting than it actually is. The gameplay is boring and easy. The story lacks substance. The characters all end up saying the same things over and over again. Through my entire playthrough I had a total of one unique encounter. I think this game has all the elements to be something really cool, but the writing is just non-existent.
Initially it seems like a neat game. However, there's many aspects and gameplay mechanics that are very poorly explained or don't work right. You can reach the end of the game (or a run) in a very short time. There is apparently some sort of replay system (branches?) at the end but it's not explained well at all. Basically no one understands what you are supposed to do next or even the point. I'm downvoting due to so much of the game being extremely poorly explained and the branching system being a complete mystery to pretty much everyone.
