About
Section 13 is a roguelite twin-stick shooter that can be played solo or in a group of up to 3 players (crossplay not supported). As an Agent of the S2P Corporation, it’s up to you to investigate a crisis at the most top-secret facility of a company whose whole thing is keeping secrets.

Step into the shoes of Agents Red, Boy Scout, Beaker, and Scalpel, as they fight to unearth the buried secrets of Section 13… and solve a few personal mysteries of their own. Collect data on paranormal entities running amok and find out what it all has to do with you.
When an Omega-level containment breach puts an off-the-books company black-site on lockdown, it’s up to a small team of expendable peons to get to the bottom of it. Literally.
Tackle the mission solo or with up to two squad-mates. And with optional friendly fire, it’s up to you whether you’d like a more forgiving experience, or chaotic fun with mad-science weapons.
As a Tier-1 paranormal containment facility, Section 13 is full of unique hazards, and it's up to you to overcome them with quick wits and reflexes.
Time your dodge-rolls and reloads to stay one step ahead of a horde of hungry monsters. Back against the wall? Pop off with a special ability… or grab a melee weapon and smash your way out.
But keep an eye on your Fear level, or risk a debilitating mid-mission panic attack!
Add some spice to every run with unlockable (and customizable) weapons, gameplay-altering Synaptic Enhancements, and of course, recreational genetic modification. (Some side effects may apply).
Utilize special abilities and unique tactical items to outsmart pissed-off cryptids, navigate a series of shifting levels, and push deeper into the base with every attempt.
Between deaths, you’ll also unlock persistent upgrades that change how you play and radically alter your chances of success.

It's a fine game, but I don't want to spend my time repeating the same areas over and over to be gaining a small incremental boost so maybe I get to a new area....where I will die once again.....just to start the process all over again.
For context, I used hacks such as removing skill cool-downs and increasing in-run currency when I played, and I would not have kept playing if I had not, because I played it solo. The game may be too hard for a single player. I finished my first run ever using Beaker, the female chemist, because she had an AoE, heal-over-time skill. I'm placing this first because this game was balanced for co-op, with a difficulty option, and the base difficulty is almost an easy mode, where one doesn't even have to consider ammo consumption. And after you beat a run on a difficulty level, you can set it to the next difficulty and so on until level 3, which is the last and has achievements tied to it. Where the game excels is that it feels good to play, but again, there needs to be a serious balance pass in solo play. Certain weapons such as the minigun are nigh-useless, the ramp up time is what holds it back, until you get addons (they drop from harder enemies), which allows you to craft a build; and that gets to issues most rogue-likes have such as not getting the exact addons you need to make the build you want in the run; and btw, how do you know if a build is good for a given weapon? Well, you don't, and that's a problem. There's no way to test weapons you have; for example, as a solo player, the mini gun is near pointless because the time to fire (called weapon charge time) and reload time is too high, and your character slows down as you turn. But if you manage to get addons that fix the first two and a special one that makes your bullets home in on the target within 7 m, then the minigun feels much better. But how would you even know that? There's no way to test the weapons with addons attached. The bottom line is that the game feels good to play, and right now it's on sale for 5.00 USD. Are there better top-down shooters? Probably, but I haven't played any yet with a feel as good as this game. If you get it for $5 USD at its current sale price, I'm confident you'll get your money's worth if you're willing to deal with the issues I listed above. If you decide to buy it, here are the best weapons to unlock first, I found, starting:

Sub Machine Gun
Shotgun
Sniper Rifle
Revolver
Flame Thrower
Very pleasant co-op top down shooter. Controls feel tight and responsive (that's a problem for about half the games in this genre). Up to 3 players in a game, still not too hard to play solo. Gameplay wise, the biggest hurdle is the general lack of reliable healing except one gun (the SMG) that has a healing weapon perk. This limits build variety since NOT taking the SMG for healing as one of your two guns kneecaps you. The characters and humor in the story also click with me. Story bits unlock with tokens gained during the missions, but you play the dialogues or read the data files between the missions so there's no time pressure or anybody waiting on you to absorb it. I haven't run into any bugs. If you have very high ping to the host (250+) then multiplayer gets real annoying; you can roll away from an attack (gives I-frames) but get hit anyway while your dead body still lands at the end of your roll. Lowish ping and that's not a problem. There's also one spot - the lab with fire vortices turned on - where it gets framey (but still playable). Besides that one spot, I've no other performance issues - buttery smooth. I think $20 is a pretty fair price for this. I got it on sale for $5 and I've definitely gotten MORE than I paid for.
Saturday morning cartoon version of Control (complimentary). A bit janky but the story and voice acting more than make up for it imo
It's a shame, I liked this game having tried it about a year ago. Saw it on sale finally decided to buy it and... couldn't get it to work. It would show me the logs and stuff while booting up but then when it got to the actual menu... it gave me a black screen. Tried verifying game files, reinstalling, launching as admin, updating drivers, etc... nothing worked sadly.
I would recommend the game if you are looking for a lighthearted roguelite to play with friends. It has some flaws like unbalanced weapons (some are just WAY stronger than others), missing level variety and the anime-like artstyle clashing with the rest of the game BUT if its on sale its worth a buy. The game lacks some variety but it plays very well.
