About

Promising the Sabotage touch in every system, Sea of Stars aims to modernize the classic RPG in terms of turn-based combat, storytelling, exploration and interactions with the environment, while still offering a hearty slice of nostalgia and good old, simple fun.

Pressing the action button in sync with the animations increases damage output while reducing incoming damage. Along with timed hits, combat features multi-character combo attacks, boosting, and a strategic "locks" system offering options to play with different damage types in order to hinder enemies while they are channeling powerful attacks or spells, all in an immersive take on the genre; no random encounters, no transitions to separate battlefields, and no grinding.

Swim, climb, vault, jump off or hoist up ledges as you traverse seamlessly through the world with a navigation system based on platformer expertise that breaks free from the classic bound-to-the-grid tileset movement.

Our custom-made render pipeline allows the creation of a breathtaking world coming to life by pushing the limits of 2D pixel-art games.

Dozens of original characters and story arcs will take you on a captivating journey. Sometimes epic, sometimes silly, and other times emotional, Sea of Stars does its RPG duty of exploring classic themes of adventure and friendship, while also being chock-full of the unexpected twists and events you’d expect from a Sabotage production.

There are many ways to hang out in the world of Sea of Stars if you feel the need for a change of pace in your adventures. Sailing, cooking, fishing, stopping by a tavern to listen to a song or play the infamous tabletop game known as "Wheels".....every system has been designed to deliver an experience that pays respect to retro classics, while rethinking in some areas to offer a smooth and modernized experience.

Sea of Stars’ adventure is playable in its entirety by up to three players. Allies can drop in and out anytime to traverse the world together and master the Co-op Timed Hits combat mechanic. Also available via Steam Remote Play Together.

This game is everything I want in turn based combat with an amazing story. There also is no achievement locking for making the game easier or harder, besides one achievement. I do not like most turn based combat games but this one is amazing.
Belíssimos gráficos. Trilha sonora espetacular.
Ok so it's a very conventional JRPG so far. Combat is like E33 basically. Time your attacks to deal more damage, parry attack during the enemies turn to receive less damage. Attacks are mostly well telegraphed, with only some Elden Ring syndrome here and there (overly delayed attacks to a comical degree). So the parrying is quite engaging. An extra layer comes form enemy magic attacks. Unlike your magic, enemy casting takes multiple turns, and you can interrupt it by 'unlocking' their spell. To do this you have to deal damage using a specific combination of elements. So, moon + blunt + slash, for example. This requires you to plan out all your turns and use the right spells and attacks if you want to dispel enemy magic before they can use it. I'm raving about the combat because there isn't really anything else here so far. Character's don't exist, except Garl. And Garl sucks. Your two main heroes stay silent 90% of the time, and it's Garl who mainly speaks. But Garl is a boring, basic shounen protagonist. Ultra wholesome chungus guy who likes food and adventure. Bleh. Levels are fine. Nothing really to say. It's a 2D pixel game, there isn't much you can do within these limitations to make levels fun to explore. But it's not like they're bad, just completely unremarkable so far. I'm enjoying my time with this right now though, despite my criticism.

It's fun. Definitely Chrono Trigger-ish. Pretty easy for the most part. Except for the DLC, which is much harder in an annoying way so I didn't finish it.
