Reviews
Phantom Doctrine is not a very mechanically tight tactics game. Phantom Doctrine is not a very coherent story. Phantom Doctrine is not really as pretty as it wants to be. What Phantom Doctrine IS, is a stealth-based tactics game set in the black-ops dregs of the cold war, and if that line interested you, you should absolutely scoop it up.

This is a spy game inspired by the modern X-Com series. It has been surpringly fun to sneaking around and silently take down enemies compared. The investigations where you have to connect clues that you have found is a very simple, fun and immersive activity. This game did not have the same budget and it shows but it has been worth the money for me. But I am having fun so far, will be interesting to see if there is randomization and high replayability or not. Things I would have liked to see improved: - Tutorials, some things are not well explained. - World Map, more and deeper activities. -- Better agent selection menu, hard to sometimes know who is best suited or located for the mission. - Base, feels a bit empty and boring so far - More missions, they are fun - Make it easier to get info about people on missions, are they civilians or enemy agents? - Better AI -- Sometime unresponsive to events on the map -- Sometimes strangley over-responsive to events on the map. --- Enemy agent did nothing, then suddenly started moving in strange ways after I had taken down guards --- Enemy agents sometimes have superman vision and detect you or downed guards in the stranges/impossible locations. - Gameplay -- Let me drag/carry and hide bodies of enemies that I have taken down --- Slow movement and increased chance of detection while doing stuff like this would be a fair thing - Graphics, I don't require super graphics but there are small improvements that could be made: -- The avatar images feels a bit out of place, maybe just improve and use the 3d models instead? -- More animations like show characters leaning against walls and objects - Music, more variation - UI, mostly good but could be better. Doesn't always feel cohesive. -- Investigations can get a bit messy and placement of notes seem to reset Wish the studio would improve the game from time to time. Feels like it has the potential to get turned into a 10/10 for people that likes X-Com type games but is now around 7 or 8 out of 10. Could be a way to train new employees at the studio and some stuff could be funded by releasing as DLC.
A fun take on the xcom formula. Missions get a bit monotonous after a while, and the story is very barebones.

This game works out of the box on steam deck. Just change from keyboard + mouse to controller in the in game settings. Some text is small, but everything works perfectly. Steam needs to revaluate the status of the game on the deck. It's a fun turn based tactics game that suits the deck well.

Skvělý nápad a tím pádem i zábava.
A stealth XCOM where you cant be seen. Combat is very boring.
