This game was a part of Humble's Mecha Bundle April 2026 This is a great game. Within 2 days I've amassed over 10 hour in the game. It's been a while since I've found a roguelite in a 2D platformer format that had me in such a chokehold. Last time was Dead Cells and BlazBlue Entropy Effect? Oblivion Override plays very very similar to Dead Cells, where it draws obvious inspiration from. Roguevania style biomes with the Dead Cells-esque teleporters for ease of backtracking. It does do some things that differentiate itself though. It features a more classic roguelite progression system where you can upgrade max HP, damage, additional upgrade slots, rerolls, death defiance, all that jazz. New playable characters are unlocked as you progress through the game. Run augmentations called services are unlocked and can be purchased with a type of meta progression currency. Within a run, upgrades fall into several different categories and each upgrade selected from one category will also contribute to the level of that category alongside the upgrade itself, incentivizing specializations. Weapons are randomized at the beginning of every run. You can find weapon drops within the biomes and in shops. You'll eventually unlock a way to disassemble unwanted weapons similar to Dead Cells in order to upgrade the weapon that you're currently using. Health potions and trinkets drop liberally. Lots of metaprogression unlocks... even 10 hours in, I'm still unlocking new characters, weapons, services, new bosses. On the topic of bosses.... PEAK. Very fair and telegraphed. You'll be able to defeat many of them on your first attempt at the base difficulty. Increasing the difficulty will give them more HP, do more damage, and even give them an evolved form with augmented movesets at higher difficulties. They're generally easier than the bosses in Dead Cells because of the fair telegraphs. But that doesn't make them any less fun. I actually prefer the bosses in this game. Would absolutely recommend this game, especially if you want to fill the hole left by Dead Cells. Or even to metroidvania players looking for a shorter form "run based" platformer to play. You'll be right at home.
If you liked Dead Cells, you will love this game. It is a hidden gem of a game, and can honestly tell you that it is a refreshing experience to play such a heartfelt project where you feel it throughout the entire game. You get to play as mechs (cool) and get such a variety in upgrades that no run really feels stale with this kind of game. I love a good roguelike and a metroidvania though, so keep that in mind. I do think that this is a great game for everyone though. Mild cartoon gore and no language, which is even more refreshing. Overall, 8/10. Fun game, will certainly play again, but probably not the next E33 or Dead Cells.
An absolutely excellent title that belongs in the library of every fan of action games. Everything from the smooth wall running and omnidirectional dashing to the chunky power hits and swift jabs feels great to play. During the run you'll choose from a semi-random assortment of passive abilities to augment your mech, with more advanced abilities depending on which combinations you've leveled up. Each mech has their own passive and active abilities, as does each weapon. Getting into the flow of combat feels so good that when a run is over, you feel yourself being pulled back to that teleporter once again for just one more go because you just know you'll do even better this time. Adjustable difficulty, secrets, and plenty of enemy variety along with a great art style make each attempt at the fortress a great time. This game is absolutely worth a buy at full price, and I look forward to whatever Humble Mill has in store for us next.
This game is great! I love the difference in characters and abilities and there is a lot to do! My only complaint is that it is a little short and the first threat level play through can be a little easy. Working my way through the threat levels now and enjoying unlocking more stuff. Highly recommend
Liked the art style, liked the option of switching characters in the way they presented it here and the game seems to play well. I absolutely can not stand random weapon selection in games for any reason whatsoever. With that said, I refunded it. If you don't mind random weapons every time you start, then you may like it but for me, its a hard pass.
It's like a Dead Cells knock off and many things feel heavily inspired or copied from it. However I think I like this more and have more fun with it. Don't miss out on this. Especially since Dead Cells is officially over and doesn't get any updates anymore.
Definitely a game that deserved more success than it got.
Pretty good. Builds can get very powerful.
