So Much Potential, Yet So Little Content
This game had lots of potential, for sure! The game is all about automating your bots while you take your time unlocking new islands, completing quests, and occasionally fighting bosses. During the first few hours, you're thinking, "How hard could this game be?" But after playing a little longer, you realize just how easy it is to understand and master the mechanics. That's always a great thing to have in a game. But... Once you've mastered the automation, you also realize just how little the game actually has to offer. The only reason the game takes so long to finish is because you're constantly waiting for your bots. Waiting... and waiting... and waiting. There's simply not much else to do. Most crafting materials are unlocked early in the game. After that, progression mostly comes down to adding new recipes to the same crafting stations. At one point, you even unlock space, which sounds exciting at first, only to realize it's just one small space station with very little to offer. The missions are also quite limited. You complete most of them early on, and after that they're mostly just upgrade objectives. The game only has three bosses. They take a while to defeat, but they're not particularly difficult since they repeat the same attacks over and over. One thing I genuinely liked was that each boss has a hidden alternative solution where you can befriend them instead of defeating them. Unfortunately, nothing really comes from that afterward. The story is also very minimal.

So yes, from one point of view, the game offers a lot of playtime... if you enjoy leaving your PC running, coming back an hour later, and finally seeing that your five components have finished crafting. But that's also where the disappointment comes in. The game gives the impression that there's always something exciting waiting just around the corner. Instead, you eventually realize you've already seen almost everything it has to offer, and the rest is mostly waiting for timers to finish. For me, Nova Lands ended up feeling more like an AFK simulator than an automation game.
Slow for the first hour, then it picks up for a few, then it becomes ridiculously grindy.
The developer's Discord is a breeding ground of intolerance.
Game is good, shame developer works with russian publisher funding genocide. Will never purchase from this dev.
Finished the entire game in one session. This is a finished game, that feels unfinished in so many moments, that i don't even know where to begin or how to describe it. A mix of satisfying, fun space management, limited bot management challenges, but also frustttttRATING moments, bugs, (time) balancing, game design and questionable progression. It's just, so many times did i go "WHY is this the way it is!", and the answer was almost always "to stretch the game's playtime", which is sad. Like no offense, but even having me on the testing team would've eliminated a LOT of problems the game has that are unnecessary. Sorry to compare it to forager, but forager had some mechanics in place that avoided every frustration i had with this game. It is such a solid idea! And execution as well tbh! Just...not enough polish. Not terrible by any means, just... not enough. 6.5/10
