Peak video game everything about it is 10/10
I should preface this by saying that Nier Automata is one of, if not my favourite, games of all time. So I was really excited when Replicant was announced to play a remake of Automatas predecessor. However I bought into the initial feedback saying it was nothing like Automata, it was tedious to play and ended up passing it by. Now in 2026 I decided to finally give it a shot after running through Automata for the 3rd time, finally getting all the achievements and I have to say, after seeing endings A and B, Replicant is a really good game. The music and combat are as expected, that being really good, and the characters and world are also great. BUT..... I don't like it nearly as much as Automata from a story perspective or a gameplay one. Now if you're going to say "you should get endings C, D and E before saying you don't like the story as much", well that brings me onto my biggest gripe with the gameplay BY FAR, being the amount you have to replay. With Automata, sure you had to replay the first half of the game once, but it was as 9S and it gave additional insight into the machines and what 9S was doing when separated from 2B. Then the third time you started the campaign, you unlocked the second half, which had most of the "oh ****" moments and you only played through it once. Replicant meanwhile asks you to beat the first half, then the second half to get ending A (all good so far). Then it asks you to play the second half again, but with added cutscenes to give more context to the shades (again, it's good stuff). But then I gave a quick look to what was required of endings C and beyond. MORE playthroughs of the exact same story with less and less added to make it new. Now I liked Replicant, I really did, but not enough to play through what is (let's be honest) a pretty tedious game again, and Again, and AGAIN for 10 minutes of new content each time. Now the other issue with replaying the second half of the game, is that those "oh ****" moments, quickly get dull and repetitive on subsequent playthroughs, and they dramatically lose their impact. I'm certainly going to return to Replicant to get the final endings in the future, maybe as a back to back playthrough with Automata, but between the tedious running back and forth and skipping what were once engaging cutscenes, I'm leaving it until I'm ready to replay it, at which point I'll just jump back in to where I left off.
Late to the party, bought this in during discount, not bad the actually had auto battle and easy mode which allow u to allow block or parry, attack, magic, etc.. for those who want just want to enjoyed the game casually.
So... this game crushed my soul multiple times. I genuinely feel blessed to have played it. I decided to trust it and put in the HUGE amount of effort it demands of you—anyone who made it to the end knows what I mean—and now I can say it was worth it. I even completed all the side quests, so I’m probably out of my mind. The story, storytelling, world-building, and characters—especially the characters—are among the best I’ve ever experienced. The gameplay and some of the creative choices are definitely questionable... but in the end, I understand why it was designed this way. It’s now one of my top three favorite games.
In short, this game offers a great experience overall but i suggest you to only buy it when it's on sale. plus the soundtrack is amazing. 8.9/10
If you came here from NieR Automata, don't expect a similar game, they are different. This one has its down moments but overall is the superior game.
