this game is absolutely incredible and one of the most unique action-adventure experiences i’ve ever played. from the very first moments, control grabs your attention with its mysterious atmosphere, strange events and fascinating world-building. the entire game takes place inside the oldest house, a location that constantly shifts, changes and hides secrets around every corner. it creates a feeling of exploration unlike almost anything else, where every new room feels like stepping deeper into a mystery that becomes more intriguing the further you progress. what impressed me the most was the combat system. instead of relying only on traditional weapons, you gradually unlock a variety of supernatural abilities that completely transform the gameplay. levitating through the air, launching objects at enemies with telekinesis, shielding yourself from attacks and combining these powers with the service weapon makes every encounter feel exciting and cinematic. the combat remains engaging throughout the entire adventure because there are so many ways to approach each battle and experiment with different playstyles. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3743125692 another aspect that deserves praise is the game's atmosphere and visual design. the brutalist architecture of the oldest house creates an environment that feels both beautiful and unsettling at the same time. every department has its own identity, and the shifting reality constantly keeps you wondering what strange phenomenon you might discover next. combined with the excellent lighting, environmental storytelling and eerie sound design, the game creates a sense of immersion that is difficult to forget. the story is equally captivating. rather than giving all the answers immediately, control slowly reveals information about the federal bureau of control, altered world events and the mysterious entities influencing reality itself. the lore is incredibly deep, and reading documents, reports and case files scattered throughout the game adds so much extra context to the world. for players who enjoy uncovering secrets and piecing together mysteries, there is an enormous amount of fascinating content waiting to be discovered. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3743125931 on top of that, the side missions are far more than simple distractions. many of them introduce some of the strangest and most memorable moments in the entire game, often expanding the lore or presenting bizarre supernatural scenarios that fit perfectly within the game's unique universe. these optional adventures make the world feel richer and reward players who take the time to explore every corner of the oldest house.
AND AS A SPECIAL MENTION, I HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THE ASHTRAY MAZE. WHAT. A. MISSION. THE ENTIRE SEQUENCE IS ALREADY INCREDIBLE ON ITS OWN, WITH REALITY TWISTING AND CHANGING AROUND YOU AS THE ENVIRONMENT CONTINUOUSLY RECONFIGURES ITSELF. BUT THE MOMENT THE MUSIC "TAKE CONTROL" BY OLD GODS OF ASGARD STARTS PLAYING, THE EXPERIENCE REACHES AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT LEVEL. EVERYTHING COMES TOGETHER PERFECTLY: THE COMBAT, THE VISUALS, THE MUSIC, THE PACING AND THE PURE ADRENALINE OF PUSHING FORWARD THROUGH THE CHAOS. IT FEELS LESS LIKE A NORMAL MISSION AND MORE LIKE PLAYING THROUGH A LEGENDARY ROCK CONCERT WHILE BENDING REALITY TO YOUR WILL. IT IS EASILY ONE OF THE MOST EPIC, CREATIVE AND UNFORGETTABLE MOMENTS I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED IN A VIDEO GAME, AND WITHOUT QUESTION ONE OF THE GREATEST MISSIONS IN GAMING HISTORY.
NOTE: IF YOU CLICK ON THE HIGHLIGHTED PART OF THE REVIEW, IT WILL TAKE YOU TO THE MUSIC THAT PLAYS DURING THIS PART OF THE MISSION, WHICH IS THE MOST AWESOME PART OF THE WHOLE GAME. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3743612206 and of course, once the credits roll, control leaves a lasting impression. between its fantastic gameplay, incredible atmosphere, memorable characters and deeply fascinating lore, it stands as one of the most original games of its generation. if you enjoy supernatural mysteries, action-packed combat and worlds filled with secrets waiting to be uncovered, this is an experience that should not be missed. i highly recommend it, especially because games this creative and distinctive are incredibly rare. it’s one of those adventures that stays in your mind long after you've finished playing RATING: 10/10 A MASTERPIECE OF MYSTERY, ACTION AND SUPERNATURAL STORYTELLING. #Nocticula #Raven #HarleyQuinn #She'sAwesome #She'sSweet #ThankYouMyDearFriend #ForSharingYourGamesWithMe #ILoveYouuuu 🔥🎮❤️
Put a solid chunk of time into this n cleared the full run, but I still can’t honestly recommend Control. The game packs tons of deep-cut lore n really cool hidden side plots, but the fragmented storytelling’s so hard to follow that u’ll still have no clue what just happened even after beating it. What ruins the vibe most for me is how bad the quest map navigation is. Levels stretch across multiple stacked floors, yet the map only slaps down one flat marker per objective, so getting lost is basically par for the course. The in-game signs are alright, don’t get me wrong, but they don’t even come close to fixing the total lack of proper guidance. Fingers crossed the new sequel Control Resonant turns out way better this year.
World building? 10/10, the game built around it? meh. Atmosphere, art direction, and worlding building are beautiful done, it feels very special when doing that; combat starts off strong, but there is only so much fun to be had hurling concrete at mindless enemies. Gunplay feels like an afterthought, felt like it was just there to drain a meter between telekinesis cooldowns rather than offering anything of substance and story is criminally underwhelming for the world it is set in. Get it for the lore and manage expectations for everything else.
I genuinely don't understand the praise this game gets. I finished Control because my friend kept telling me "it all makes sense if you pay attention" and the story is amazing once you understand it. Well, I read the documents, listened to the recordings, completed the side content, and by the end I understood what was happening. The problem is that understanding it didn't make it any better. The story feels like it's trying so hard to be mysterious and deep that it forgets to actually tell a compelling story. Almost every answer raises three more questions, and most of those questions never get satisfying answers. By the time the credits rolled, I wasn't intrigued I was exhausted. The gameplay doesn't help either. The combat is fun for the first few hours, but then it becomes the same thing over and over again enter a room, fight floating enemies, throw objects, cleanse point, repeat. The powers are cool at first, but the game keeps recycling the same encounters until they lose their impact. The quests are also incredibly boring. So many of them feel like busywork disguised as supernatural investigations. Go here, find this object, clear another group of enemies, read another file. Rinse and repeat. The world design is impressive from an artistic standpoint, but exploring it stopped being interesting once I realized most of the rewards were just more documents explaining another mystery that would never lead anywhere meaningful. I kept waiting for the moment where everything clicked and I'd finally understand why people consider this a masterpiece. That moment never came. Instead, I finished the game feeling like I'd spent hours chasing answers only to discover there wasn't much substance behind the mystery. Maybe it's just not for me, but Control felt less like a story and more like a collection of weird ideas stitched together. By the end, I wasn't impressed I was just glad it was over.
You know you've made an interesting world when I actually want to read the lore notes and I play through the game 3 times. Remedy is a day one developer for me after this and Alan wake 2. You really owe it to yourself to play both, this game is 6 bucks on the summer sale right now and thats a no brainer at that price. I know alan wake 2 is on epic and thats annoying, but it shouldn't stop you from playing a generationally great game. The world, story and environments of the oldest house are all so interesting and well crafted, the gameplay is chaotic and fun, and the DLCs are also worth playing. I'm not the biggest fan of the mod system, the game gives you SO many mods and so few mod slots. And the game kind of feels like it ran out of budget at the end with how it very quickly ends, but overall its still a fantastic game. So glad I replayed this before resonant, I can't wait until september.
Game gets old really fast. At the very beginning there's a mystery to everything, and you're like "okay okay". But 10 hours in no questions are answered, everything is still a "mystery". And there's no sign that this "mysteriousness" leads anywhere, or has any deeper meaning to it. Every characters treats it like "I don't know why it is the way it is, y'know" or "only director knew but he's gone now". Characters are uninspiring. They're not bad, just bland. Spewing low-level corpo talk at you with "I don't have access to that information", "You should talk to my manager" etc. The game has some interesting visual elements and style to it. But the endless temporal solutions cripple it's graphics with endless ghosting and smearing. Ray Tracing tanks performance while not fully resolving the problems mentioned above.
