my friend recommended me to start diving into nier franchise from "replicant". so... pros: - music. i like it, but it is very repetitive around areas. - maybe some lore - gameplay wasn't as bad as i expected cons: - quests. boring, repetitive. i'm too mature for the "bring/help" all the time ♥♥♥♥. but i don't mind it, if NPCs feel pretty much alive. which leads to -> - NPCs. they feel like bots. actually, this game constantly reminds you it is just a game. - change of POVs throughout the game. if i play game from 3rd pov, i prefer it this way. but sometimes this game throws second pov or some novel fragments in your face and i dislike it, because, unfortunately this game did pretty much nothing to make me want be curious about it. - characters. some may argue, it's okay, but these characters feel empty and plain to me. the only one i really like is nier geshtalt. - price. 40$ for.... what, exactly? bad world where i can't jump down wherever i want? repetitive limited music? simple characters? stupid NPCs? world that feels empty as hell and boring quests? boring bossfights? i'm not a hater, but this game suffocates me when i play it. and i play it, because i have a habit of finishing what i started even if i dislike game itself, unfortunately for me. maybe if you started with automata and really wanted more of NIER world - it is a good idea. but otherwise, i think it is a waste. strongly recommend to buy it only on sales if you dare to bore yourself with this game, 40$ is not worth it at all
Amazing game, tons of stuff to do, and keeps you on your toes. There are some annoying achievements, but the game allows you to have tons of fun during your time.
I've heard the story to this game is one of the best stories ever conceived, after 5 hours of playing what is essentially the tutorial I will now go watch a lore video instead. I loved automata but my goodness does the age show on this one. Insanely repetitive in every single aspect of the game, go to the place kill bad guy go back. Combat is genuinely horrible and raising the difficulty doesn't help at all just makes already boring fights longer. The voice acting in both english and japanese is awful, and whoever did the english directing should be shot out of a cannon into the sun, waste of excellent talent doing mediocre impressions of THE anime voice. I wanted nothing more to enjoy this game but after getting a game over while reading text on my screen and I lost 30 minutes of progress, it will be years before I even think of touching this game again. I cannot out of good faith recommend anyone play this game, watch a lore video or someone else's playthrough and experience the story that way. I can't possibly imagine experiencing the story is worth the absolute slog it takes to get there.
It feels hard for me to say this but....just no. It was fine playing it the first time (like ending A) but then someone told me that I have to replay the same story like...3 more times??? It just felt like I'm getting rage baited for 20 hours straight and wasting my time. At the beginning of ending C I had enough and it feels really hard for me to say all of this because I really liked NierAutomata and I was also gifted this game, I REALLY wanted to enjoy it but I have to say it's definitely not for me. Here are some positives tho: the character designs are really good and the music is also really good.
