This is a proper mechwarrior, even though the content was seperated into multiple dlcs, because of the development time, but it is so far worth the time and money. worthy successor of mechwarrior 3
Fun Mech game.
I just completed the base game on Expert, and the story and atmosphere of Jayden and his sibko is exceptionally strong. I was late to picking Clans up because I didn’t think that Mercenaries was very compelling game at launch. That has changed for Mercs with DLC; Mercs is much better now but that's for another review. I saw that Clans was on sale and I took the gamble and now that I’ve played through the base story of Clans I see Piranha's writing, storytelling and simply game making has jumped a few tiers. So too has the level design. I really like these whiny teenagers, trying to figure out the pecking order of their clan and how to be badass mech pilots and leaders. The dialogue seems ultra believable how stilted and warlike clanners would actually act and talk. Think space child soldiers or Ender's game. The campaign's main thrust is soaked in 'are we the baddies?' vibes and leads to a very satisfying ending. If you're new to Battletech/Mechwarrior, do yourself a favor and play with the classic controls with throttle and independent/persistent torso twist. This will make it feel like piloting a giant walking tank instead of an FPS in a mech dress. There are some difficulty spikes especially on Expert but if you stick with it, these often lead to interesting mech builds and utilizing the battlemap. Make sure you max evasion on all your starmates before improving anything else. All in all this is a solid entry in the franchise and my second fave Mechwarrior after the flat shaded poly vibes of 2. It is a pretty great take on Battletech. The mechs are fun, and it is a pretty great power fantasy to run around with advanced Omnimechs while the Inner Sphere tries to stop you with run down, stick wielding Battlemechs. It is also just an interesting story. It gives a level of humanity to not only Clan Smoke Jaguar, but the Clans as a whole, which is something the setting sometimes struggles to do. I do not think there is ever really a point where you feel like you are rooting for Clan Smoke Jaguar; even among Clan fans Smoke Jaguar's constant "high-testosterone locker room" feeling is grating, but for people willing to play the heel for a change I think it is a pretty good experience. I would also recommend Ghost Bear: Flash Point. Like the Bears themselves, it starts off abrasive but it really does pick up once you understand the motivations at play. As for Wolves of Tukayyid, I mean come on it is the Battle of Tukayyid, and it is very faithful to the overwhelming chaos of it, I cannot recommend it enough. The combat is great and honestly probably the peak of MechWarrior so far. The Mechs look great, sound great, and offer a good amount of customization thanks to Omnimech magic. My only caution is that, if you are into stories, this game does not have a huge deep dive into the lore of the setting. There are a decent amount of moments where characters will reference events or use specific language that, you do not know them, there will not always been an explanation. If you are ok with that or you are willing to dive into a great sci-fi universe, then by all means!

für alle die auf Action im MW Universum stehen hat man viel Spass mit dem Game...
!
This is a great installment into the Mech Warrior franchise. As someone relatively new to the universe and lore of Mech Warrior and coming from MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries after being introduced to the series through Mech Assault on Xbox as a child I think it is super cool to finally get a game from the Clan Invasion perspective. Especially now that we have the Mercenaries Shadow of Kerensky DLC that tells the Story of the Invasions from the Inner-Sphere perspective, thus, connecting both games narratively. MW5: Clans differs from MW5:Mercenaries in that Clans is very much more story board driven. We have pre-rendered cutscenes and a whole cast of characters outside of your lance that are driven narratively all with voice acting and motion capture. If you're new to the series and interested in a completely story driven universe and a bit wary of dipping your toes into the more traditional text driven dialogue of Mercenaries and sandbox style of gameplay where you need to sort of drive your own narrative then Clans is an excellent starting point.
I've always loved the Mechwarrior series. Its great to be playing as clan in a story mode. If you've never played MW before, this would be a great series to get into and learn about the ip.
Well worth it for it's narrative story from both the main campaign, as well as any of the current 2 dlc's Clan Ghost Bear Clan Wolf
