Guided by the knowledge safeguarded in your notebook, follow in your crew’s footsteps to explore a richly detailed world, unravel its secrets, and face deadly trials. Use a stolen Minoan sphere to solve ingenious puzzles by manipulating light - a force woven by Daedalus into the island’s very heart.

It is said that only a few came back from the island. Lurking in the shadows lives a restless presence. It follows you around, seemingly knowing your every move, as it hunts through the island’s depths.
Every step is a risk. Every pause, a potential end. You can’t stop, only hide, outsmart, and push forward. Can you survive each trial and every step or will you join those who never came back?

[/th]

I love A Plague Tale. I played the first 2 games to 100%. The story is amazing in both games. Characters are unforgettable! So one could say I had really high expectations going into Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. Here I am, finally played it! (and to 100% too). I am a little mixed on how I feel about it and I will explain all of this below, so let's get to it! Usually I do a pro's and con's list but I am going to include parts about the story and characters because I think I need to explain my reasoning behind how I feel. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3794368193
The Story and some issues with Sophia
I have some questions. Why does Sophia act the way she does in Requiem when she has literally been through what Hugo is going through? Didn't Sophia have visions in this game? Wasn't Sophia
also subjected to experiments?
Okay, skip forward to Requiem where she tells none of this to Amicia and Hugo. It feels as if the developers forgot all about Sophia and how she acted in Requiem. She was... I think 37 in Requiem and this game is set 15 years BEFORE. So Sophia has been through same as Hugo and this game confirms that.
The Characters
I want to mention 2 characters that I think didn't get the time they needed to develop nor the time to be introduced correctly and, in my opinion... found very underwhelming. Leni and Faro. I felt as if Leni got introduced to the game way to quickly for your relationship with her to be established correctly, for what's shown throughout the game. What is she to you? Your BEST friend? A lover? Someone you consider family? Then
when she dies... the game clearly want's to make you feel something about her
I don't know about you guys but I just shrugged her off as if to go "Thank god. Let me play now". The other character I want to mention is Faro. He get's introduced at the start of the game as really sympathetic towards you after you find out your father sadly did not return from his "expedition" at the VERY start of the game. He then goes on to act like a maniac looking for his next fix. Treating you like you are nothing. Then the story comes together and he
also dies on you. He holds a "wheel for light", severely injured while you complete the game. His death was also pretty emotionless as he treated you like garbage after being that father figure at the start.
Honestly... neither of these characters had the emotional impact compared to characters in the previous 2 games... this was a let down to me.
The Combat
I loved the stealth/sneaking around in A Plague Tale. It felt so unique to me. It felt good. Not something copy and pasted just to make a mechanic and say "WE DONE IT". Sadly... the combat was very boring. Repetitive and felt out-of-order for "A Plague Tale". For most of the time I was spamming X, with a little bit of holding X in and a dodge or parry here and there. Archers were no threat at all to me, shield carriers just got sparta kicked away from me cause you know... this game has "ABILITIES" and big armoured guys the size of The Hound from Game of Thrones got slashed at with my knife till they died. Nothing about the combat in this game was threatening at all. Compare this again to the first 2 games... you had to think with your head to get around enemies. Personally, I don't think this is the right path to go with A Plague Tale but alas, this is just my own opinion of course!
Exploration wise
Just as a final nitpick - why are there so many collectables? So many resonance fragments? I get the past and present collectables but man... so many damn fragments to collect just takes your attention off of "WHATS GOING ON". Gotta go check this corner for a collectable, hold up! I didn't sign up for a collectathon. The first 2 games didn't have all of this. It's that bad the devs had to reduce the resonance fragments (pretty sure they did).
Other things I liked/Pro's
⚫The soundtrack is gorgeous. I really loved the soundtrack for this game. ⚫I had no issues playing this game at all. No crashing, FPS drops, stuttering. Nothing, which is rather refreshing from a new game! ⚫The game looked gorgeous from start to finish! Here's one of my favourite spots: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3794368555
What I didn't like/Cons
⚫I didn't feel as drawn to Sophia as I did with Hugo or Amicia de Rune from the first 2 games. I just don't know what it was. ⚫Game only lasted me 11 hours. Compared this to the first 2 games, you get almost double, if not triple the playtime. ⚫A little overpriced for what it offers. I wouldn't say it's worth £44. Maybe around the £25-30 mark.
TL;DR/My Verdict
At the end of the day, everyone has their own opinion. For me Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is not going in the right direction I personally would like to see the series going. Full - somewhat - braindead combat. Underdeveloped characters, in my own opinion of course and some plot holes in the main character and story... I feel as if this was made by people that haven't really paid much attention to the previous games. Not only that, game was a tad short for the price. I'd recommend waiting for a sale to be honest, at least 30% off. I am sorry to say but coming from the previous 2 games to this, I feel let down in the direction you guys are going. I personally rate it a 4.5/10.
An interesting direction but in my opinion, the wrong direction for this series
I preordered Resonance like 2 months ago purely cuz I trusted Asobo. After Innocence and Requiem they honestly had enough goodwill from me that I didn't even need much convincing? And then there was Sophia, she was easily one of my fav characters from Requiem, so when they randomly announced an entire game with her I was genuinely shocked lowk when they revealed it I thought there was no way this thing was coming before 2027 but nvm.. Plague Tale Innocence and Requiem are both easily in my top 10 games. Those games were so emotional, especially Requiem.. I had pretty high expectations for Resonance maybe a little too high, and that's probably why I feel a little mixed about some things even though I still really liked the game
Sophia
Anna Demetriou absolutely killed it n she better at least get nominated for Best Performance at thegameawards cuz she was genuinely amazing in this game.. Sophia already had alot of personality in Requiem, but giving her a whole game obviously lets us see way more of her n some of the slower n more personal moments with her were honestly some of my favorite parts. Asobo has always been really good at characters n this game proves it again
Sophia n Theseus
The whole Sophia n Theseus switchin thing was also really good at first I wasn't sure if I'd like constantly switchin between both of em cuz I thought it might get annoying n ruin the flow whenever smth interesting was happenin. But smh it actually works really well their sections feel different enough so switchin between them never really got annoying, n the way both of their stories slowly connect was lowk one of the best parts of the game for me.
Combat
Dude, how did the same studio that used to treat combat like some random thing between story sections suddenly make this? I'm not gonna say Resonance has the best combat ever made cuz it doesn't. There's enough variety too so most fights don't feel exactly the same, n the game actually makes you use different stuff instead of just spammin the same thing every fight n it still has a lil bit of that Asobo jank sometimes but compared to where they started with Innocence, the improvement is kinda insane.
Story n Pacing
The story overall was great too n the mystery kept me interested almost the whole time n the game gives you info slowly instead of just throwin a ton of lore at you all at once. The pacing was also MUCH better for me compared to Requiem. I love Requiem but smh that game had some weird pacing sometimes.Resonance felt way more consistent. There are still slower parts obviously but most of them felt fine.
The Emotional Side
I expected a lil more from the story emotionally. Maybe that's unfair cuz Innocence n especially Requiem set the bar way too high. Those games made me care so much about everything that was happenin. Resonance does have emotional moments, but it never hit me the same way. There were some scenes where I knew the game wanted me to feel something huge n I was just like yeah that's sad ig still a good story tho but just not on that level for me.
The Lore Changes
My bigger problem tho is the lore like they changed so much about how the plague works that sometimes this barely even felt connected to Innocence n Requiem. Like smh I understand addin more to the universe. That's fine. But some of this felt less like addin new lore n more like straight up changin the old lore.
Graphics
Visually tho the game is beautiful. Their environment artists genuinely don't really miss. Some places had me just walkin around doin absolutely nothing cuz I wanted to look at everything. The lighting, locations, character models n all the lil details look really good. Asobo games have this specific look that I really love n Resonance def still has that.
Soundtrack
The soundtrack tho? Omg. Prob one of my fav parts of the whole game. Some tracks made certain scenes like 10x better. Plague Tale has always had amazing music n Resonance continues that. I love you Olivier Deriviere sm for that
The Piracy Situation
One thing that genuinely sucked tho wasn't even about the game itself. The game gettin pirated like 7 days before release was honestly heartbreaking to see. People like me were waitin for this game for a long time, preordered it, paid for it n actually wanted to support Asobo n smh the whole game was already online before people who actually bought it could even play it. I know a lot of people hate DRM n badly made DRM can cause problems. But stuff like this lowk makes me understand why some studios use it sometimes. There are people who actually pay money for games n wanna support the devs. Seein a studio spend years makin a game just for it to leak before release? it does suck
Overall
But ignorin all of that, Resonance is still another really good game from Asobo. I don't think it's as good as Innocence or Requiem. N it's def not as emotional as either of them was for me. I expected a lil more from the story n I'm still confused about some of the lore changes. Anna Demetriou gave an amazing performance. The combat is surprisingly good n the pacing is lil better. The soundtrack is amazing asf and the game is beautiful n yes it actually runs properly. N most importantly it still feels like a game made by people who actually care about the world they're makin. I really love Asobo as a studio. Even when they do smth I don't fully agree with, at least they're tryin new stuff instead of makin the exact same game again n again. Resonance might not have emotionally destroyed me like the previous 2 games. But I'm still really glad this game exists and I really hope this isn't the last time we see this universe. Story 8/10 Combat 8/10 Characters 9/10 Soundtrack 10/10 Graphics 9/10 Performance 8.5/10 Overall 8.5/10
Hello my friends :) I checked out Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy on the Steam Deck and the Steam Machine and was pleasantly surprised. On the Steam Deck, you have chapters 1-2 (I haven't played any more yet). With a medium preset and upscaling, I get a stable 30 fps, and with a low preset and upscaling, around 40-50 fps. :) If you also want to use frame generation, you can have a nice 60-70 fps game. :) So far, I'm really surprised and can recommend it right now. :) Here's a test video on the Steam Deck: https://youtu.be/dl-ePFiVHrQ Here's the video on the Steam Machine: https://youtu.be/F-N5N8WOln8
I really loved the previous two games - they have a charm I haven't seen in many games, the special bond between the characters, the very beautiful world pulls you into the atmosphere. I got that same feeling in the first hour of the new game, Resonance Plague Tale, but unfortunately that only lasted the first hour, and all the rest of the game's hours felt like a completely different game. Let's start with the good: the world is beautiful, the music adds a lot to the atmosphere, and the puzzles are very good. Unfortunately, that's where it stops. The new combat mechanics are perfectly fine - nothing I haven't seen before in games from 2013 - and the animations can be very choppy. The game tries very hard to be Uncharted for a large part of it. Unfortunately, it doesn't come close. All the other 10 hours you spend in the same place, with the same atmosphere, with no change or anything interesting happening - you're walking through a cave for around 9 hours of the game, which is very exhausting. The story is simply nice up until the final scene, the post-credit scene - I didn't really understand how this game connects to Plague Tale. Overall, the story is very reminiscent of one of the Dark Pictures games, which is a pretty "okay" level.

To sum up, as someone who really loves and connects with the previous two games, I unfortunately can't wholeheartedly recommend this one. It's not bad, but it's also not very good.
