The dynamic campaign can range from short to unlimited campaign lengths.
PvP/PvE offers a wide variety of maps from 1v1 to 4v4, and the use of “Doctrines”. These allow you to choose your own special units that fit your individual playstyle. This is one of those games you try so hard to see through the flaws because at its core, it's a really good concept and has the potential to be a phenomenal game. But for what it tries to be, the limitations of gameplay and AI prevent it from achieving anything other than a frustrating stroke inducing experience. In order to succeed on any tactical level, the micro management required to achieve the simplest results completely ruins the experience. If it's not positioning each individual troop so that they are not standing on the wrong side of cover (the AI's favored place), you are caught spending valuable time trying to deal with a bugged unit. Keep in mind this is an extremely fast paced game, you can lose most of your irreplaceable force in seconds from well placed barrages. You are also unable to mass select units, in the beginning of each match, you will find yourself spending an insane amount of time moving units individually to the front (this is tedious when you have 30+ units at the beginning of each conquest match). The third person control mechanic is really cool, but almost unusable during heavy fighting because without having you to babysit them, your other units will surely perish within seconds. I feel terrible having to give this game a thumbs down with what it is trying to do, but the bad far outweighs the good and the headache inducing gameplay is just too unpolished for it to work properly.
As a big fan of the Men of War Assault squad, this edition of Call to Arms scratches the itch. The whole collection is well worth it when on sale. Quite a bit of replayability even if you don't bother with Multi-player. 10x this with the mods found on workshop. The direct control of individual units let's you micro manage your troops and puts the game experience a level above other similar games. I have sunk over 1200 hours without ever entering multi-player games by playing through the campaign as different factions, and then conquest mode which is a "campaign" of attack and defend of enemy AI where you have to attack or defend zones. I recommend!
TL;DR: It takes everything that made the old Men of War games great, fixes the jank, and turns the realism up to eleven. It’s brutal, it’s chaotic, and it’s the most fun I’ve had in a strategy game in years. Worth every single penny. If you’re a history nerd, a strategy fan, or just someone who loves watching physics-based destruction, stop scrolling and just buy this game. Seriously. Gates of Hell: Ostfront is easily the best WWII RTS on the market right now, and honestly, nothing else even comes close. Here is why this game is an absolute masterpiece IMO: 1. The RTS / Third-Person Hybrid is Crack The coolest thing about this game is how it lets you switch perspectives on the fly. One second you’re playing a traditional top-down RTS, managing a massive front line and positioning your squads. The next second, you can press 'E' and take direct, third-person control of a single soldier or a tank crew. There is nothing quite like the rush of manually aiming a Tiger tank's 88mm gun, lining up a shot through a bush, and sniping a hidden enemy anti-tank gun from a kilometer away. The battlefields are massive, completely open sandboxes—no invisible walls or scripted lanes. If a building is blocking your line of sight, you can literally just level it with artillery. 2. The Detail and Realism is Borderline Obsessive Forget arcade-style "health bars." This game uses a ridiculously deep component-based damage model. If you shoot a tank, the game calculates armor thickness, angle, and ballistics. Your shot might ricochet harmlessly, blow off a track, jam the turret, or penetrate and take out the driver. The attention to historical detail is insane. Every soldier has an individual inventory. They run out of ammo, they can pick up enemy weapons, and you can even have them scavenge tools to repair disabled tanks on the field. It’s gritty, stressful, and incredibly rewarding. 3. The Modding Scene is Legendary The base game has tons of content, but the Steam Workshop community takes it to a whole new level. The game is incredibly modular, meaning mods run smoothly and add hundreds of hours of extra life. Want total historical overhauls, massive new community campaigns, or modern-era conversions? It’s all there.
Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront
Age of Empires IV, Age of Empires II, HoI4 и Rise of Nations.
My Coumpter is running on ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Hopes and Dreams playing this, I love it. Real Review: I think Im just engrossed of Controling and Manning Troops. Its like Hearts of Iron IV. It's complex, diffcuilt but it worth the amount of time dealing with a Mission, If you are patient and Like Stratergy. This is for you, if you are inpatient. Well. Still Do it. Its fun. Also i make stories about each soliders, i love getting attached to them. P.S. please god give me a computer than can run on medium grahpics.
I've made the poor decision, mostly due to my own technical limitations throughout the years, of purchasing pretty much every Men of War from the first of its title up to Assault Squad 2. This, however, is undoubtedly the culmination of the series and sure as hell isn't whatever Men of War 2 is, and from my understanding, it's made by a former mod development team sanctioned by Digitalmindsoft. I would expect these people to know what the community would at least generally want. It still can be a bit of a costly game given the DLC pricing, particularly when off sale, but it is not as egregious as locking AI skirmish behind a DLC ala Assault Squad 2's Airborne DLC. Solid product. Gets a recommendation from me.
I bought this because I loved the Men of War Assault Squad games back in the day. This was beyond disappointing. The positive reviews have to be bots. The friendly Ai that you control are so stupid its not believable. They have some kind of randomized free will where they just decide to run to a random point on the map at any given moment. Not even a whole squad just a single person running off like a toddler chasing a squirrel. Then they have no sense of prioritizing targets making micro managing extreme. Tanks will pull up to another tank and then turn and shoot at infantry next to it. Not sure whats going on with this game but its a mess.
