Reviews
I watched my favourite streamer starting this game and I bought it the next day. Didn't regret it in the slightest ;) This "game" is one of the best novels I've ever read, I highly recommend it.
This text-based choose-your own adventure game is well-written, deeply researched, and full of interesting and colorful characters. The pathways and choices are interesting and I never felt cheated or like my choice and its consequences did not make sense. Another reviewer joked that they had bought a fancy gaming PC to play things like Elden Ring and yet were drawn in by this text-based game - I feel the same way!! If you love reading, fantasy, and medieval plague lore (I saw that Vesalius reference, developers ;] ) this is the game for you.
This game is definitely an acquired taste, but it's still good! It's kind of like a visual novel, but it isn't. It has the story and the choices, but as you see in some of the pictures, there are no character sprites. I was expecting a different kind of game and thought that the pages were like filling out information or data recording, so I was really surprised when I began to play it and saw that it was just pages of text and choice boxes. Here are many pros and one con about this game formed from my opinion:
Pro(s):
1. It's unexpected. It doesn't have a main menu like most games would, it just starts you off in the first chapter. 2. Despite #1, this game is fairly easy to grasp. It has option buttons below the title for stats, reset, achievements, and menu(settings) - in that exact order. In the settings menu, it allows you to configure the text size, background color, and page change to your liking. 3. This game allows you to develop your character as you go. Despite the daunting amount of achievements this game has, they are mainly about how you develop your character and can be pretty easy to get. Of course, there are two achievements about the endings, but the other 90 achievements are about character development. Your choices can mold to how you are as a person, or they can mold to the exact opposite of who you are. That's the wonderful part about this game, because you get to choose who you are.
Con(s):
1. There isn't any music. Although the story is rich in details and creates a very ominous atmosphere and acts like a storybook, it is still a game and music would definitely keep the mood contained. Like I said before, this game can be an acquired taste, and let me explain why; games like this are expected to either be action/adventure games that are also story based like rpgs, or they're expected to be visual novels because you have to make choices. So when most people play this, they expect one of the two, and when they find that it's the way it is, they turn away from it because it wasn't to their expectations, or because they're close-minded to how different it is. Some people, on the other hand, accept the change and find it quite refreshing. I like to think of this game as a chapter book, because it has chapters and you're forced to paint a picture in your mind and read it as if it is a book, except everything is pointed towards you and you have to make choices, just like in a visual novel.
Many options
This was a lot of fun, and I've played it a couple times now trying to get the best ending, or at least do better. Still achievements I haven't gotten.
Perfectly Written
第一本自己挑选的英文小说,要是有小段复制功能就好了,照顾一下俺贫瘠的词汇量吧,不会的单词手打查起来可是真滴要命XD,浏览器挂着音乐和翻译器慢慢手打玩的。 If there is a function that allows you to copy New Words or a short dialogue for translate.it will be friendly to foreigners.
One of my favourite games. Don't buy this game if you're not a reader though,
I knew I'd enjoy it when I was given the choice to type in what animal I wanted as my mask.
Woke agenda with medieval realistic elements is a bad mixture that broke the element of immersion for me. Shallow writing, no dark scenes to be found, small number of choises that has no real impact on the story. I played and loved the vampire the masquerade games of the company but this game is really bad.
