Good story. It need a little more but as it is its good.
i became an eldritch god and an unholy abomination of plague and once human flesh. 10/10 would offer my body up as a conduit again
Pretty good. I admit, the writing can get dour and some of the less-interactive scenes can drag on. Still, the game made me feel sympathy towards the characters, the weight of the choices on my back and the sheer stress of racing the plague with limited resources. Maybe not the absolute best CoG product, but definitely in the Top 10.
Good game; don't die of plague.
10/10 Terminé conviertiendome en un demonio que come los sueños y esperanzas de la gente.
I'm refunding the game. problem number one: I'm a mystique from abroad. in the world exist lots and lots of different deities linked to different customs. So you normally dont know whats normal in a foreign region you travel to. alright in the region the story takes place, dead bodies get buried underground. burning them is against local religious custom. fine. a foreigner cannot know that. so i go - as a doctor - to the local abbot and tell him for medical reasons it might be better to bury the dead. instead of telling me that this is impossible out of religious reasons, his assistant screams heresy and he gets upset. and i cannot even explain myself. like dude, 3 villagers further north they worship a different deity and there they have to burn their dead. just explain to me what its like around here. but sure why not go ballistic over it. just antagonize your only hope (me) to not get slaughtered by the baron if the plaque isnt contained. problem number 2: i have a swordfighter with me. im dealing with an obviously deranged individual that just cut himself. he then wants to show me something. so i move my neck real close to him so he can hold his weapon to my throat. what a stupid thing to do. that was never my intention. plain idiocy. then my swords-woman cuts his thigh a bit. risky, but whatever. i get way from the madman for some reason. and she ... does what? shes in total control. and then she runs away with me and latr says "close quarters, i couldnt do anything to him." we were in his damned house. and she wasnt wielding a giant zweihander or anything. btw, she managed to cut him just fine. so yeah, lets run away after he almost killed me, threatened my life and we got the upper hand. sure. smart move. totally understandabel. REFUND, thank you.
as a fan of choose your own adventure novels as a kid, dream come true Both main characters are well written and like-able, and there are plenty of fun historical references to plague doctor practices. This is well balanced with the more fantasy elements of the world, and help it to feel grounded. by far my favorite game by this publisher, -- I wish there were more by the same author. (the save of the demo doesn't carry over to the full version however in my experience, the only downside i saw)
Only played for a little bit so far but I really like it, your character has a stat page based on their choices and you get an achievement for petting a horse B) edit; finished the story and ahhhh its so good, I love all the characters and the plot, I didn't manage to cure the sickness but I got a bf that likes rabbits so I won either way <3
“Mask of the Plague Doctor” is one of those Choice of Games titles that doesn’t have any major flaws while also falling a bit short of leaving a lasting impression. Even so, my original one-line review did not do it justice, and this update is meant to rectify that. (7/10) The writing in the game is consistently good, the setting is interesting, and playing as a plague doctor gives you a unique role with plenty of different approaches to take. Whether you lean into medical expertise, diplomacy, or more forceful methods, the game generally supports the style you want to play. The romance options are fine, but just fine. Tame and not especially memorable, but pleasant enough when they appear. This isn’t a romance-focused title, and it shows, but nothing feels out of place or poorly handled. Politics play a noticeable role in the story, and while I can’t recall the specifics years later, I do remember that the political elements were clear and easy to follow. You’re given enough context to understand who the factions are and why your choices matter, which is more than can be said for some other titles in the genre. Like most Choice of Games stories, it has structural limitations, but they’re handled smoothly enough that I rarely felt railroaded. The options I wanted to pick tended to appear, and the structure supported my choices without forcing me down a path that felt wrong for my character. Overall, it’s a well-crafted and enjoyable story with no major weaknesses; just nothing that pushed it into unforgettable territory for me. A solid, engaging read that I’m glad I played, even if it didn’t stick with me long-term. (7/10)
Really, really, really good! A friend recced it to me and it goes hard honestly I've played through more than once now and there's a good mix of stuff I had never encountered and stuff I did better with every run.
