I will start with the bad: Cons: 1) No voice for the cut-scenes or for the texts/conversations, everything is just text. 2) *The game is kinda short, took me less than 3 hours to finish it with the game working in the background for like half an hour when I was away, so its probably 2 hours of game-play. *Note that at the time I write this, the developer said a new version is coming with more area to explore etc... so this con will hopefully change in the near future ^ ^ 3) Sometimes interacting with stuff/getting the inventory/shout menu open bugs the game, the screen gets frozen and I need to exit to main menu and continue to fix it. doesn't happen a lot, but happened a few times Pros: 1) Scared the sh*t out of me at some places, and I really like horror games that actually scare me. 2) The game is fun in my honest opinion, I really feel like it was a money worth spent and I am waiting for the new updates and areas to explore! :D 3) There are some fun puzzles to solve. 4) The atmosphere is amazing, and the game can get intense in a matter of seconds. 5) The diary added in the game is a nice touch, adds to the atmosphere (and to the game length) 6) The game has achievements (and they aren't hard, most of them you will get just by playing the game, some are miss-able but easily to get if you explore)

LIRE (pronounced liʁɛ) is a quite promising mild survival horror, ghost story game about a girl ready to break into a creepy mansion just to find her cat (the routine for cat owners of course). I'm a great fan of ghost stories, discovering the pasts of the deceased and helping them into the afterlife can make for some gripping moments. LIRE teases such moments and hopefully will feature them in the future, once the ideas, story and characters get more fleshed out. What is playable right now is pretty short (2+ hours max) and provides more of a teaser of what is to come. I have to point out here that this has been a passion project for the past 3 years already for the developer. From the humble beginnings years ago to now, their skills have grown tremendously and this should not be disregarded but celebrated. I'm looking forward to the continued improvements! * About the bad or ugly to expect for the current version: the game is a bit unpolished, a bit clunky, the visuals are "surprising" when considering that it's running on Unreal Engine 4. Eve looks a bit out of place in the environments, her anime artstyle and that of the levels don't match that well. The sound of her footsteps... is incredibly annoying I must admit. The inventory system is trying to be too obtuse for its own good while other survival games have long mastered smooth inventory usage. The diaries, tutorials and texts still need some work and polish. The "puzzles" are way too easy and straightforward for this kind of game. Eve even gives one of the codes herself to the player at one point! The save points are way too forgiving, there's one every 5 meters and it loses a bit of that Resident Evil safe/save room tension of making it in time there. The library ghost's appearance feels very out of place and anachronistic. * The good, the nice and the cute: starting the game outside does not leave the best impression on the player with its simplistic vegetation but the mansion is where the game shines. With a few more ambient sounds in some places, the atmosphere can quickly become overwhelming and tense. Eve's anime style is quite appealing (even though her clothes and elbows clip through her clothes), her kuudere demeanour and the way she shouts gain her many kawaii points. The different types of ghosts can make for some interesting gameplay opportunities when combined and the exploration already captures some of that Resident Evil vibe. Expecting more of that mood. All in all a very promising little survival, ghost game that can be nitpicked to no end but displays the heart, charm and passion of its creator. I'm certain it will only get better from here on out.
10/10 would recommend! Oh my gosh, I love this game so much thus far. I haven't gotten too far in it, but I love the atmosphere of it. The music is creepy, but still fantastic. The character design and game design/detail is also great, and though I have gotten the crap scared out of myself a few times, I am really enjoying it! I cant wait to finish it, and be able to play through more as more chapters are put up! If anyone wants to watch my playthrough, here you go! I'll be putting it up in parts as I continue playing the game :D Warning, I get startled very easily so some areas are a bit loud lol https://youtu.be/vFHwSQxRXus
Terrible game 90% walking with puzzles you figure out when you walk in the room or ones that tell you the answer.A poor rpg maker game in 3d
It's a really good game that scared the living hell out of me. 8/10 p.s. If anyone knows how to get the Dead end achievement please explain how, I tried but failed.
I was initially intrigued by the idea of this game. I loved The Witch's House so knowing that this was inspired by that I needed to play it. Although this is a 3D game (unlike the rpgmaker horror games it was inspired by), certain aspects (without adding spoilers) were delivered perfectly in that style. The character design for Eve is absolutely beautiful, as well as a few of the ghost designs! Some of the jump scares were also great and genuinely made me jump. There are quite a few errors with a few of the English written parts, but I could mostly make out what it was meant to mean. Although there were a few glitches, the developer was happy to receive this feedback to do bug fixes etc. and it does not make the game unplayable. I also wish there was a little bit more of a game than what is available. Knowing that there is more of the game to come is great though, as I want to carry on to find out more about the story. I would recommend so far :)
The stage where the story takes place is atmospheric and scary, and the diary in the game is also terrifying. There are also various riddles and gimmicks to solve, making it fun to explore. And Eve is so cute. The way she hides from enemies is Eve-like and very good. I'm looking forward to the next chapter.
I rather enjoyed this little gem of an indie horror game. Sad it was cut short since its a solo developed game but for what its worth its good. The developer is working on a chapter two currently and I plan on playing it once its released. If you enjoy puzzle games with a nice spooky atmosphere then this is great pick up to add to your collection. I've enjoyed the story so far and look forward to seeing where it goes. Highly recommend! Always show the solo devs some love guys! Be good to each other and stay safe out there.
A combination of anime, horror, and OPPAI.
