Two larger-than-life heroes, Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu are brought together by the hand of fate, or perhaps something more sinister… Live it up in Japan and explore all that Hawaii has to offer in an RPG adventure so big it spans the Pacific.

Know what I love about the Yakuza franchise? The story always ranges from serious and heart-wrenching to something likely written by someone high on drugs. And it just works. On that note, the story here feels a bit weaker compared to Like a Dragon or the rest of the series. But everything else is a huge step-up, especially the gameplay. Personally, I'm not a big fan of turn-based combat, but this game somehow made me addicted to it. And this better get a sequel. Because I thought the ending would finally give me some closure but it gave me another cliffhanger instead.

super
If you are a fan of the Yakuza games, especially 7, you'll probably find more than enough to enjoy with this one. There are some QoL improvements and hey Kiryu's back! Again. Yeah, it relies very heavily on past-game nostalgia, and yeah, it's a bit confused with its pacing, but the characters are pretty likeable and it's nice to see Ichiban and Kiryu truly interact. IMO it's not nearly as strong as its immediate predecessor, but it's a decently fun time. I recommend picking it up on sale though. (just, don't do the "romance" subplots...)

9/10
