Before playing Judgment, I had never finished any RGG game I haven't even played a single Yakuza game properly, so I went in with zero expectations And smh this game ended up giving me one of my favorite stories in gaming The beginning is a bit slow There are a lot of cutscenes and people talking, so if you're expecting nonstop punching from the first hour, you'll probably get bored But trust me, once the story starts moving, it doesn't stop The plot twists in this game are actually insane Every time I thought I had figured something out, the game pulled another twist The best part is that these twists don't feel random They actually make sense, and when everything comes together, it's so satisfying This is honestly one of those stories I'm not going to forget anytime soon Yagami is such a likeable main character, He's cool without trying too hard, and I liked that he felt more like a normal guy than some unstoppable superhero But the side characters deserve just as much credit Kaito-san is an absolute legend, Every scene with him was enjoyable Mafuyu was also one of my favorites, and the whole cast felt memorable instead of just existing to move the story forward The combat is really fun too, Flying off walls, throwin punches, and finishing fights with EX actions never got old I mostly used Tiger style because it felt stronger, but switching styles still looked cool enough to make every fight entertaining Now, the detective gameplay yeah tailing people around for 20 minutes while pretending they can't see the guy hiding behind the smallest pole ever made was definitely a choice Some investigation parts were fun, but the tailing missions tested my patience more than the actual murder mystery Kamurocho is such a fun place to explore There are arcades, restaurants, side cases, random weird people, and enough distractions to make you completely forget what you were supposed to be doing I wanted to 100% this game because I genuinely loved it, but dude the grind is real After looking at everything needed for completion, I quietly closed the menu and pretended I never saw it Maybe one day I'll come back and finish it, but today is not that day Overall, Judgment completely surprised me Even as someone who hasn't finished an RGG game or played the Yakuza series, I never felt lost The story is easily the biggest reason to play, The characters stick with you, the twists are unforgettable, the combat is satisfying, and there's always something to do If this is what RGG games are like, I finally understand why people won't stop recommending them A solid 9.5/10
Yagami sure ain't Kiryu or Ichiban. As someone who played nearly every yakuza game this spinoff is somewhere at the bottom of the barrel for me. It just has so many annoying things like the frequent tailing missions which we all can unanimously agree are the worst part of any videogame, or the chasing sequences, lockpicking and active search mode overstay their welcome as well. Perhaps mortal wounds and sluggish combat are another good deterrents. The upgrades definitely help the combat to be more responsive, though it takes a while. According to many fans, the story is supposed to be this holy grail but I would argue that it's not the case - it starts off slow and stays that way until like the chapter 9. Otherwise it’s fine but I found the other yakuzas to have better pacing and plots. On the other hand, there are quite a few other new features to discover like the drone or VR. The dating mechanic is a huge improvement. Side quests and friend interactions can also be fun. The rest is more or less similar. It’s possible I forgot something else I enjoyed. Despite its flaws, I’ll still leave a positive review since it’s fundamentally yakuza in a detective disguise and I took my sweet time to not rush anything so clearly it could’ve been worse. Obviously, I didn’t 100% the game because as you may be aware, it’s a giant pain in the butt to do so, however, I at least tried everything multiple times and finished all the side-cases. 6/10
Not bad, but still... You should only touch this game after you completely finish Kiryu and Ichiban whole saga, otherwise the magic wont hit. In the end, its a lazy 7 out of 10. The detective plot about the Mole gouging eyes out is actually super hooking, and Yagami the lawyer beats the crap out of thugs with his Crane and Tiger styles just as good as Kiryu. Plus the Phoenix Wright style courtroom and investigation stuff is pretty neat :)) But to get to this good stuff, you gotta suffer through some garbage gameplay. The devs seriously thought that clunky stealth, terrible lockpicking, flying a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ drone, and endlessly tailing random hobos was peak fun. And this completely ruins the sidequests. Its not even that the stories themselves are totally dead - you still get funny ♥♥♥♥ like chasing a flying toupee, investigating a fortune teller, or hunting down the Pervert Trio. The writing tries to hold up, but the gameplay completely kills the vibe. Pretty much every single sidequest trips over the absolute worst mechanics of the game. That legendary, peak-tier cringe from Yakuza 1-6, where you literally cried because it was so absurd, genius and epic? Its just gone. The newer titles started this trend of being totally bland, and Judgment just goes with the flow. It's definitely worth playing though, just for the awesome atmosphere and that classic, testosterone-fueled epic.
It's a solid game. I've played all the mainline Yakuza games (excluding remasters), and while it's not quite on par with the games with Kiryu and Majima, it's still more good old Yakuza. Highly recommend getting the Shin Ryu Mod Manager with a few mods though: - Judgment Retrial: overhauls the combat to include improvements from the sequel Lost Judgment. Much needed, the combat feels way smoother and satisfying this way. Way too many abilities are locked behind skill points otherwise, and the combat feels sluggish out of the box. - Straight to Menu: Self-explanatory, skips the long boot sequence when you launch the game. - Disguise Anytime: Just a fun mod that lets you use costumes whenever you want, which is really how it should've been by default. To install, drag all the Shin Ryu Mod Manager files (not just the folder) directly into the game's .exe location, open the mod manager, import all your mod zip files as is, and don't forget to press the green checkmark to activate them. EDIT: Actually the Judgment Retrial mod removes Tiger Drop, one of the best moves in the game's series, if not the best. No idea why they did this. You can find the skill QR code for it in an early chapter too. Makes the mod much harder to recommend. There's one other combat revamp mod you can try, I already finished the game though so I haven't tested it to see if it keeps Tiger Drop.
Better Call Yagami !! What can i say atp, U want me to talk abt the plot and how it starts and getting Bulid in some magical way with taking care of each detail till we finish the Main Story. Or you wanted me to talk abt each character like yagami and kaito or hamura and The Cops and Genda law office ... etc one of the most things i liked abt this masterpiece is the cinematic Cutscenes, the whole definition of GREATNESS its all there in cinematic Cutscenes IT WAS PERFECT
Wonderful series. You play as Johnny Judgment, a local mahjong enthusiast, who makes it his mission to be the 1st in every mahjong table. The series end once you win with a nines gate hand and conquer all mahjong parlors.
Amazing game, 9.5/10
What an absolute banger of a game!!! - THE BEST combat system in the series(at least out of all the games I've played so far); - Top 3 stories for me across the entire RGG catalog(again, so far); - Visually stunning experience; Nothing more needs to be said... For RGG fans - it's a must!
Oh Look, a Cat!
A melhor parte do jogo é a história. Nota: 6,5/10.
