https://youtu.be/mBZd6gr8NOU Front loaded with massive lore drops and dozens of contextless choices players are thrust into a giant world without basic onboarding. A lot of good could be buried but players will have to dig.
A solid roleplaying experience that keeps situations tense without being too overly punishing; you can't save scum, and saving costs resources, but saving at a reasonable rate is doable. Plenty to watch for and be careful of. If you play at the baseline normal and expected way, this game is fine. Take heed if you play the Loner style (start your playthrough with the Loner modifier to reduce companion group size), you can wind up in a tough spot travelling on the world map and getting ambushed by an enemy group you can't flee from. A slight problem you can fine-tune with volume settings: overly noisy horror sting sound effects in the environment could alarm you into thinking something terrible just happened when really, that's just ambience. It could jar you into being attentive just to realize nothing happened. I question the choice of the horror sting effects is all, some of them are questionably much.
I actually like this game. Recommend it.
Poor graphics & everything is so dark that it is hard to see anything. The game interface is clunky. Tried playing at the easiest setting, can't make any reasonable progress. Saving limited, which sucks. Perfect game if you want to get into bad mood. The only plus is that it works fairly well on steam deck.
Although this game isn't bad by any means, it isn't good either After 12 hours in the hardest difficulty( wich is short and long at the same time to judge a game ) : For me, the main problem of this game is that it want to make you think it is very complicated when in reality it is basic at best. The only difficulty in it is to figure things on your own because there is next to no explanation for the onslaught of informations wich are presented to you. It would be fine if it wasn't to discover once it's done that there is no depth to it ! -The combat, although entertaining at the beginning, becomes boring and dull once it becomes clear that only few stats matter. Want to know what is the difference between evasion and critical evasion? Want to know what is the effect of encumbrance on a piece of armor ? Want to know the difference bewteen -x% target chance and +x% hide chance ? 1st, go f*ck yourself, you wont find it anywhere 2nd, it doesnt matter dummy ! Just stack accuracy and crit on all characters, spam the regular attack and you are set ! There is ALOT of ailments. Wich seems interesting at first. But not reallly because most of them have no impact. Burning is broken, the rest is not even worth spending a turn on to applicate. That's because combat is as slow as it is easy. The only (artificial) challenge is created by the fact that you are outnumbered in every fight. Wich might be ok, but once you discover that there is a staff that can literrally one shot in AOE there is no point in giving a thought to combat anymore (the staff has only a limited number of charges and is pricy at the start of the game, but since you become filthy rich filthy quick, and since this staff has unlimited amount of supplies, it doesn't matter) - talking about supplies : supply management wich seems to be a big deal when you start the game is - not needed ! Or it is, until you discover by clicking one to many times on the water well that you can in fact nourrish your whole team only by drinking. % by %, very slow, tedious and unimmersive process, but totally free ! Unimmersive also is the fact that everything is disponible in unlimited supplies at any merchant ! This world ravaged by starvation has merchant with unlimited food, but i guess that's because every inhabitant learned that they only needed water to survive. Same thing for the plague ! Unlimited medical supplies ! Unlimited gear and weaponry, magical weaponry even !!! Unlimited power for someone who has unlimited money !!! -And all of that would still be ok if the story was entertaining but once again it's pretty basic. In 12 hours I havn't learned a thing on my followers other than what is written in their character sheet, the side content is everywhere but most of it is FedEx stuff, the main story line is ok without being ground breaking, exploration is fairly fun but since you are already so rich and combat is so easy, it's being undermined... It's only my opinion being 12 hours into it, i'm sure there is good things to discover but i don't feel like there is enough to keep the interest in digging, also DLCs might add some depth but paying in a hope that they make the game good is meh Great atmosphere tho, I very much like the concept TL;DR : Pretty tedious to learn, nothing to master game with great atmosphere and not much else
7/10 A little confusing at first but has an interesting plot
I can see this game is a labor of love, and it definitely has it's interesting points, especially on the gameplay side. Exploration is also fun as the map is expansive and dangerous encounters are always around the corner. Unfortunately, all of this is brought down by the absolutely atrocious, immersion breaking dialogue. It is so bad I sometimes shout "People don't talk like that! STOP!", and sometimes I just cringe painfully. Normally it wouldn't be a deal breaker, but on such a narrative heavy game, it simply makes the game unplayable to me.
Game looked interesting but it very boring and bland, Play Saga Frontier if you want a retro experience.
Excellent simple RPG SNES style game with a lot of versatility. Pretty much everything you wanted from an old school game with a bunch of modern features. Excellent and responsive dev with a lot of creativity. The biggest let down about this game is that the creator(s?) are not employed by a major studio in a position to both create and oversee large scale projects for top selling titles.
I can't recommend it to anyone, sadly. I tried to make a character but couldn't get past character creation because you're forced to choose modifiers even though you know nothing about the game. Everything is excessively dark and ugly. Combat seems to be very slow and boring. The controls are poor and feel clunky with mouse/keyboard. There are waaay too many dlcs. Tutorial is both insufficient and covers too much too quickly - it should be spread out as you play and it should give you info at character creation. The worst part: the store page severely misrepresents what kind of game it is... the user tags say "choose your own adventure" and "character customization" and the videos/screenshots are really dark and uninformative. Turns out, it's an extremely complicated RPG that forces you to make dozens of decisions based on no information at all. I like complicated games, but I should have access to relevant information one way or another and I don't here. I just don't see how the time spent learning it can pay off. Updating to say I made a character and I kept getting stuck on nearly invisible objects when trying to move and that movement is extremely slow. Disgustingly poorly made game that probably has some good ideas... but almost no one will be able to tolerate playing it long enough to see them. Updating again to say that the dev is extraordinarily unprofessional and snotty and I know I made the right decision by refunding. Imagine getting feedback that other players have also made and saying "this means nothing to me", lol. Terrible garbage game by a terrible dev. Avoid at all costs.
