Reviews
In one breath IXION asks you to be the only hope for the survival of humanity, and take every measure to work against the near certain extinction of your species. In the next it punishes you for taking your time and trying to optimize its mechanics. The stakes are too high to spring random malices with no warning when the game decides it does not like your playstyle. It punishes players for actually trying to solve the game, instead of giving fair but hard challenges that match the desperate situation humanity is in.
I was excited to try this because I love Frostpunk and read that this is similar. Well, it's so similar that I think I might as well go play FP, the art and play is more to my liking.
A (somewhat) hidden story, that u need to find out by yourself (and i dont mean the ovious story the game tries to tell you... pay attention to what happens... the strange occurances in the star systems you come across) and a challening building game in space. 10/10 absolutely my type of game and setting. Thx and im looking forward for more of this
Broken game on sale, Critical optimization issues cause a collosal reduction in performance in chapter 3. I easily maintain 60 fps on ultra settings throughout chapters 1 and 2 but crawl to 10 fps in chapter 3 on ultra low settings. I have tried to play this game twice now, just recently and over the past christmas break, after 6 months the issues are still not fixed. I could try to crawl though 10 fps or spend time trying to figure if there is some solution somewhere if the underlying game was particularly good, but its not. While it offers similar to frostpunk, the progression is just nonsense, firetrucks are higher tier research and colossal buildings only unlocked later costing rare electronics. Technology descriptions are nonsense most of the time.
I will recommend this game with some caveats: Pros: *Sick, catchy soundtrack *Excellent artwork and style *Interesting not-too-ridiculous plausible sci-fi plot *Decent amount of replayability because different build types are possible Cons: *Immersion-breaking logistics (dozers magically appear and disappear, drive through each other, and apparently just run over your people constantly, which is just lazy on top of the good art) *Very lazy treatment of orbital mechanics and space engineering (the ship transferring orbits and making sure none of its solar arrays can EVER get sunlight is so dumb I just can't even describe it--KSP could have shown you how these things worked over a decade ago) *Not very intuitive to learn how things work, which is a failure of game design
I can't decide if this is micro-management heaven or hell
