I'm mostly on the fence for the recommendation. The style is good and I appreciate a lot of aesthetics. The game is a good length for what it is and, overall, a good, thought not great, art game. Several gameplay and technical issues. The block puzzle was needlessly extended by having some of the cipher in another room, and with a plodding walking speed, the puzzle quickly got too long. Technically, there was a bug where I couldn't access my inventory or interact with anything causing me to reload and lose progress. Input remapping is done with text files, no volume controls, doesn't seem to remember that I don't want mouse smoothing. These issues are what tip the scale towards not recommending the game. Maybe when it's super cheap it'd be worth the price.
Good!
I've only finished this game two or three times in the years I've owned it, but I think about it all the time. It's a beautiful, melancholic, contemplative experience that commits to a very bittersweet atmosphere and delivers on it. If you're into thoughtful walking sims and puzzles, and the inherent joy of wandering around crumbling long-abandoned architecture, then this is a good one!
fun little game, its worth the lore
This is a really good walking simulator with limited interactivity and some easy puzzles. You wake up not knowing who you are, where you are or why there is nobody else around. You will find some partially readable books and various notes and newspaper articles, but don't understand the strange symbols they are written in. The game alternates between day scenes and night scenes where you wield an axe and can go to areas you can't during the day. After bashing in a door you will wake up and have acces to a new area. After some progression you will be able to decipher the strange symbols and read all books and notes. There is also a little twist at the end. It's a fairly short game that you can probably finish in about two to four hours. There is no dialogue and very little sounds, but very nice soothing music in the background. My biggest gripe is the slow walking speed, though you do pick up some speed after walking for a couple of seconds. But the gameworld isn't that big and you unlock several short cuts. Also there are no achievements.
Homesick is a first-person exploration and puzzle game set in a deserted city after an unspecified catastrophe. You wander through empty interiors and a delapidated building, solving environmental puzzles while trying to understand what happened. I really loved this one. Even though the pace is painfully slow, the atmosphere completely makes up for it. The sense of isolation, the quiet world, and the subtle storytelling pulled me in and kept me engaged. It’s calm, melancholic, and immersive — the kind of game where mood and ambiance carry the entire experience, and for me, it worked beautifully.
