"Heavy Rain" -
played this game years ago when i was very young, i remember this game being so fun and enjoyable back then, probably because i was younger and the controls actually worked. currently replaying for the nostalgia, abso ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lutely unbearable. i have an amazing laptop with huge storage and it cant even run this game for less than a minute. i paid full price for disappointment. i understand gmes may brek after some time but i cant even get past the main menu sometimes, i have to play with the aspect ratio so low and pray to a higher being in hopes it wont crash. i cant even complain about the controls when the game wont even sty opened long enough for me to experience them. torture. this game is physical and mental torture. the only good thing about this game is jayden, i enjoyed his machanics and his character overall. its clear they reused him for connor in dbh. maddisons character is completely useless and the story wouldve progressed the exact same if she was never introduced. i usually dont care about fanservice in games but the fact we see her in her panties and then naked in her introduction was extremely off putting even when i first played it back in 2010. ethan as a main character isnt the worst. i can understand his goals and his actions in the game but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ he is boring. alcoholic father who neglects his child. where have i heard that before ???? not to mention whoever voice acts him feels extremely dead, none of the lines have the emotion that a depressed father desperately searching for his lost son would have. the female voice actors are the only ones able to express actual emotions in their voice acting, i completely understand not everyone is equipped for voice acting but i lost my ♥♥♥♥ cry laughing at the beginning of the scene where ethan has to drive against traffic. every interaction in this game takes me out, the random suicide scene was extremely triggering, but then i got over it when maddison was patching ethan up after he had climbed through glass because the texture they used for the wrist gashes for the woman was the exact same they used for ethan. scott shelby sucks also. thats it. i could continue but im enraged by this game enough.
In 2026, *Heavy Rain (2010)* is still a good game and worth experiencing. David Cage was pushing the envelope at the time with its cinematic presentation, motion capture, and technology. I also appreciate that it tells a mature story and doesn't shy away from showing adult themes, That said, it hasn't aged particularly well. The controls can be cumbersome, and it feels much more like a QTE based game than a choice based experience. While some of your choices do matter, your performance during QTEs can also alter the story, sometimes leading to serious consequences. Modern accessibility and quality of life features have also made some of its design feel dated. I also ran into occasional stuttering, which could be distracting. The story is engaging, the performances are mostly solid, and despite trying to be a serious thriller, it's often unintentionally funny. That has become part of its charm. Quantic Dream clearly learned from Heavy Rain. Each of their subsequent games built on its ideas, refining the gameplay, presentation, and player choice with every release.
This is a really good and sad game. I was very happy when i read all the possible endings and released i got a happy ending. I would recommend it especially considering compared to other games its not too expensive.
Enable Steam-input and set the rightstick deadzone-type to "Cross" If using a controller, that is. The various swirl-movements literally (almost) don't work otherwise. I just came from Fahrenheit from this same developer which I as the first game in my Steam-library abandoned halfway through due to the controls/QTEs and was about to do the same with this until that above tip fixed things -- and I'm now really glad I didn't. Massively engaging and very much advised to any narratively focused player. Still a few too many QTEs, and unless you like them significantly more than I do you should as such probably play on the easy setting ("I play games occasionally") but it's more than compensated for by everything else once you fix that controller deadzone issue. Graphics, music, story; top-notch (even with the plot holes...). A new favorite in my library.
CBT QTE
