ℍ𝕖𝕝𝕝 𝕪𝕖𝕒𝕙, 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥'𝕤 𝕞𝕖𝕥𝕒𝕝!
Have you ever wondered what a rythm musical game in an FPS, Hellish setting would play like? I have, and this game finally answers all the questions I had for the longest time about that. The result is one of the most unique and exhilarating action experiences in recent years. You play as The Unknown, a vengeful demon seeking to reclaim her voice and take revenge on the ruler of Hell. While the story serves mainly as a framework for the action and the carnage to the music that happens within it. Its dark fantasy setting and narrated lore provide enough intrigue to keep players moving through the seven hells. The game's most defining aspect is its rythm-based combat. Every shot, reload and attack is mostly effective only when performed to the beat. Maintaining a combo multiplier by not missing a... how do I call them, rhythmic skillchecks, not only boosts damage but also gradually unlocks additional layers of the soundtrack. For example, you're at 4x multiplayer, you hardly hear the metal song in the background, at 8x, the drums kick in and you're like WOOOOW, and then 16x happens and you're just banging your head on the desk, full-on metal style ahaha. The best part about it is, you don't even have to keep to the beat, you can still progress if you're a failure at skillchecks. Metal: Hellsinger is a unique experience, that I thought was never possible to achieve in this way. By merging rhythm-game mechanics with high-speed action FPS shooting, it creates and experience unlike any other on the market. Stylish, challenging and immensely satisfying and definitely a MUST-PLAY for fans of metal music. I'm going to say F it and give it a 10/10, hell yeah, game is amazing!
I love the innovation of rhytm-shooter mechanic. Not really into fps, and not great at rhytm-based game. But still, objectively one of thebetter games out there. Short to complete and has plenty of challenges too.
I haven't finished the game, but I can safely say that this is well worth the time of any boomer shooter fan. The mechanics are simple but solid and give you plenty of opportunity to regain health through combat finishers. I would like to see more enemy variety, but I'm less than halfway through the game, so it could be that the more interesting enemies will emerge soon. The levels consist of a sequence of arenas where you have to survive waves of enemies, unlocking the door upon victory. No key hunting or puzzles, but this game is more about the music-based cadence of the combat. There is a thin story, but minimal set-dressing, in my opinion. If you are struggling, go through the extra Torments, as they unlock permanent upgrades you can apply in your loadouts to keep your streaks alive. I personally don't play this game for the score leaderboards, but it's there if you are into that. Highly recommended.
Top tier heavy metal, DOOM-style game. My only complaint is I wish there was more content.
I recently was part of a conversation in a discord I frequent where the head mod of the server tried to insinuate that the cost of a game in no ways correlates to the quality or time investment of a game. Metal Hellsinger is proof that their arguments are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I have gotten more out of 5 hours of Hellsinger than I have in shorter, narrative focused games. I've gotten more out of it than games I have put dozens of hours into. And it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ great. I even had reservations about playing it because I'm decent at FPS games but awful at rhythm games. And yet I still was able to score at least 10 million points on normal difficulty on every level in the game and feel amazing doing it. The story is pretty simple and to the point. You are the Unknown because no one really knows who you are. But you are also the Hellsinger, a prophesized being that will travel through the Hells, defeating aspects of The Red Judge and inevitably go on to bring down the Judge and the Hells themselves. and possibly even more beyond that (pls dear god give us a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sequel, you've teased us enough Outsiders). Along the way there's elements of backstory that get unraveled, plot twists and revelations but it's nothing really outstanding or anything, it's serviceable and that's more than fine. The real star of the show is the gameplay after all. As a rhythm FPS, you have the beat of the song pulsing in the center of your screen the whole time as you're mowing down arenas of demons. Hitting on the beat perfectly gives you a damage boost and ofc continues your hit streak, hitting slightly before or after gives normal damage, going off-beat does less damage and ruins your streak as does getting hit. Staying on beat ramps up your score modifier called Fury, taking hits reduces it. standard stuff. There's also a ton of combos to discover which can boost your Fury and/or score. Eventually you'll even unlock little buffs that you obtain by keeping up your streak like your Fury decaying slower, faster Ultimate gain, explosive finishers but we'll get to all that shortly. You have a variety of weapons at your disposal, most of which you unlock as you progress and each having their own ultimate. You have Paz, a talking skull voiced by Troy Baker that does little damage but can maintain your Fury as you progress through the level. You have a sword that can do a basic three hit combo by staying on beat, a shotgun, dual revolvers, a crossbow that shoots explosive bolts, twin scythes of a sort that you throw and gradually return to your hand, dealing damage to anything in the way and more via DLC. You can only take two with you so choose wisely. personally I almost always went with shotty/revolvers but ngl i fw the scythes too. The music is killer. Metal ain't really my scene anymore but I still found myself jamming to pretty much every track in the game and getting into it. There's also this funny mechanic related to the story where you won't hear the song's lyrics unless you're at max Fury which is both rewarding and motivating to keep up and gives you a reason to not slack on it besides just score. Honestly, the more I sit here, the more I could list positives but honestly, there weren't any real negatives to speak of. At worst, there were minor annoyances. One of which came from a couple of enemy types and the other was failing these optional challenges called Torments which when completed further buff your character. But they operate on a time limit and failing them when so close to beating them would be annoying. But that's really it. Dare I say, as a game, it's perfect. I didn't even pay for it on Steam, I got it through Humble Choice a while back but I would still gladly pay $30 for it. I would easily recommend it to fans of either of its genres and well, pretty much anyone really. Rock. On.
so satisfying and addicting
