About

Frostpunk 2 elevates the city-survival genre to a new level. Take the role of a Steward and lead your city through a cascade of calamities taking place in a postapocalyptic, snowy setting. Build large city districts with their string of endless needs and demands. Navigate through conflicting interests of factions that populate your metropolis. As the needs of the city grow and factional power at its core rises, only you can steer the society towards an uncertain future.

The world is overtaken by an ever present winter, which makes expansion of the city the only way for the survival of mankind. In order to grow, the metropolis needs resources like coal and oil, just like its citizens require food and warmth. In Frostpunk 2, it's your job to tackle this never ending circle of supply and demand.

The number of your citizens steadily grows, making the task of governing them and satisfying their demands all the more challenging. As the Steward you will have to maneuver carefully across the interests of many groups inhabiting the city.

People of your city want to have a voice in how you run things. Each faction has its own ideology and ideas for the future, yet they also have one thing in common - insatiable thirst for power. Choose your allies in the Council Hall wisely.

Make tough life-and-death decisions as you allocate heat across your city, supported by new research topics and heat-oriented laws. Choose districts that need the most warmth with the help of the Heat Management system with a detailed temperature overlay.

The story of Frostpunk 2 introduces a multi-chapter saga set in the frozen wastes. Spanning across the life of the Steward this campaign lets you feel the burden of leadership as you take the responsibility for thousands of lives. At the same time, the sandbox mode called Utopia Builder with infinite play time leaves you room for boundless social and infrastructural experiments.

Frostpunk 2 comes with a comprehensive and versatile modding tool. FrostKit will let you create your own maps, models, and scenarios inside the game. Now, only your imagination can limit the destination your city is heading to!

you build coal mines to heat food districts, so you can feed your extraction and industrial districts, so you can build logistics infrastructure to transport all these resources, so you can attract more people, so you can house those people... so those people can mine more coal...

After purchasing the Fractured Utopia expansion, I encountered a bug where the game becomes permanently stuck in a paused state while playing Utopia if I select either the Disease or Doomsayer challenge. This issue used to occur only occasionally, but now it happens every single time with either of those options. Having to constantly reload my save makes it impossible to stay immersed in the game. To clarify, this isn't tied to any specific event or game mechanic. The freeze can occur randomly during normal gameplay, whether I'm resolving events, enacting policies, or performing almost any other action that advances the game. The game simply becomes permanently stuck in a paused state, forcing me to reload my save. Considering the price of both the base game and the expansion, it's disappointing that this bug has remained unfixed since the expansion's release. Given its current state, I can't recommend buying this game or its expansion. You're better off spending your money on a different game instead. I thought the freezing bug would finally be fixed after the release of the new expansion, but unfortunately it's still there. Even now, the game still freezes if you play Fractured Utopia after selecting either the Doomsayer or Disease challenge (I'm not sure which one is actually causing it, or if it's both).

(+) The game looks gorgeous, the sound design and soundtrack are excellent, and I genuinely appreciate that the developers tried to create something completely new while staying in the same universe, but... (-) ...I still can't recommend it because, at its core, it's a People Pleaser Simulator. If you get frustrated by games where you can barely do anything the way you want because you're constantly being pulled in every direction by different political factions, endlessly catering to their increasingly ridiculous demands just to keep them from starting a civil war, then this game will drive you crazy. It gets even worse once you reach the point where two rival factions both hate you, and every available choice only makes your city worse. That's where it completely lost me. Another issue is the change in perspective. We've zoomed out from the city, which sounds great on paper, but it also turns the people into little more than numbers. I eventually found myself not caring in the slightest whether another 100 people died... or 300. The moral weight that made the first game so incredible is simply gone. I also tried the DLCs, but they didn't change my overall impression at all. On top of that, I don't think the many interconnected gameplay systems are presented clearly enough. More than once I found myself wondering what I was actually supposed to do to achieve a specific outcome. Even if that were improved, though, I don't think it would fix the core issue: the game practically plays itself because 8 or 9 out of every 10 decisions are dictated by whichever faction happens to be demanding something at the time. And yes, that often means helping push through their laws regardless of whether I agree with them or not. No thanks. That's just not my cup of tea. On the other hand, I'd happily replay the first Frostpunk anytime. That game is a freakin' masterpiece
