About
CAUTION: THIS GAME IS HARD AND FULL OF JUMP SCARES!
OPERATION FOSSILFUEL
Deep under the Great Sitkin Island in Alaska, you find yourself in the heart of one of the greatest scientific research facilities on Earth! Genetic researchers have bred mutant dinosaurs! But things go bad when the base is invaded by shadowy special forces, looking to steal the dino DNA. You grab your guns and your ammo and prepare for a fight...
At its core, Fossilfuel is a survival horror game. The player is trapped in a massive underground facility, Sierra, located in a remote location in Alaska. The player must use their head to find clues and solve puzzles to escape the facility.
The game features several massive maps that the player can play in any way they want. Their decisions will decide the ending of the game. Once the player escapes the depths of Sierra, they are faced with the sprawling landscape that is, the Great Sitkin Island. The main story campaign will be a solid length of around 6 to 10 hours of gameplay depending on your skill level.
Experience a massive arsenal of weapons as you plow through a huge library of enemies. The game features a wide range of weapons that are not just traditional firearms, your standard FPS arsenal of Shotguns and rifles, but also weapons of science fiction! Weapons that can warp physics and crush your enemies' bones in seconds! The game runs on the power of the Unreal Engine, enabling crazy particle effects and physics as well as difficult enemy squad AI that tries to flank the player and calls for reinforcements as the situation dynamically calls for it. Enemy dinosaurs will use all their sense to track the player as well. A Velociraptor on the other side of the base is there...hunting you...always coming.
The game enemies also span into our Homosapien brothers. The enemy soldiers will call for reinforcements, radio ahead to comrades on the other side of the map to prep for the player, talk to each other, provide covering fire, flank manoeuvers, can spot dead comrades, watch and listen for the player to make sounds, and even spot the player clicking on their flashlight. These guys are tough but the player can cut them down with fun weapons like the black hole gun!
The Dinosaur AI is likewise very aggressive. Velociraptors have incredible eyesight and can hear every move you make. They tend to travel in pairs and love to perform flanking maneuvers as well. Raptors, however, are not the only baddies you will encounter. But you will have to play to find out!

The raptors have feathers, and that's cool. This is a pretty short game. Without dying you could probably finish it within an hour. There are some secrets/extra weapons you can find by going off of the normal path but you don't really need them. Dinosaur AI is wonky, from the land of jank. Sometimes they appear suddenly on top of you and kill you within one or two hits. That's ok, they're dinosaurs. Level design is mostly boxy corridors with little detail. Guns do what guns do. The inventory is limited and mostly an annoying factor that serves as a slight reason to be tactical about what you cram into your pockets. The human AI is dumber than the dinosaurs. Performance is fine most of the time, though the warehouse level seems to be terribly optimized. Voices are too low but the 80s style vibe to it makes it quite alright. In the end this oozes the same kind of enjoyment you get out of watching a B movie. It's the Carnosaur to Jurassic Park. It's arguable if one might find this to be a good experience or not, but it is chock-full of cool moments.
I wish i could recommend this game but i can't. The start of it seemed so promising and the areas were interesting to start but it all just falls apart very early on. It stops using the Dinos and switches to soldiers, and loses the tight dark lad/office corridors to go to open areas and large open factories where you can just alert one solider and due to their bad design and programming will just charge you in an easy to shoot single file line. The second half of the game feels like a watered down F.E.A.R without the enemy intelligence or the bullet time. I am truly heartbroken by this game as i saw the vision in the early parts of it, it had so much potential but it just ditched what it was trying to do to be unique. It also is just poorly optimized and i had to switch to low graphics to stop it from lagging and breaking. I had hope for this but after playing and beating it i cant even look to its sequel because this has just left me wanting.
this game is really low budget bottom bin trash
6-13-26 Game is really good. Fossilfuel 3 demo came out and I had no idea this dev was so good. I found Fossilfuel 1 on my computer and quickly had to find 2, and other games by this dev. Top quality and good controls and gameplay is inspiring. Game is well done.
I recommend this game for anyone who likes a horror dino FPS shooter. However, It would be nice if there would be subtitle options.

i really enjoyed this game, the horror of dinosaur especially raptor really give me jumpscare good work for dev
Unfortunately, though I was able to finish the game, I can't really recommend it as a game because there are a lot of glaring issues with balance, and it is a performance mess. As a fun 90min exercise, I would recommend, but only for people chasing the vibe it offers. It works better as a very rough proof of concept. You aren't really running around hunting dinosaurs. It's more like a few set pieces where dinos jump out and scare the piss out of you while you wildly fire your gun and hope to drop a raptor before its lightspeed attacks take you out. On normal difficulty, one swipe takes down 50% of your health. It's brutal. The idea is fun if you're a dino-horror fan, but it's way to rough to be considered finished, I think. Considering it is $20 and takes 90min to beat (the extra hour of my playtime was replaying the very opening sequence before you can even defend yourself and eventually dropping the difficulty), I just don't recommend it. Needs way more polish for that price. Only played this to give the sequel (and eventually the third game) a try. EDIT: Actually, I forgot to include that I actually loved the music. It tapped into that sort of 90s synthesizer popularized in horror stuff like X-Files. Big fan.
