It is a time of war. Galbadia, a Global Superpower, has declared war on Dollet, a country whose training academy is home to two personalities: the hot-headed Seifer and the 'lone wolf', Squall Leonhart. Both are equally at conflict with each other as their country is with Galbadia; to others, Squall appears lacking in team spirit, while...

Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
11 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1/day in the week to Aug 4 → 1.86/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

its better than 7, fight me bro
The writing of this game is truly horrible. Just play through the D-District Prison segment and you'll be shaking your head. How about abandoning your post while preparing to assassinate someone because you feel like you should go and apologize to a person you were a bit unkind towards earlier? The junction system and having to draw magic are also a huge downgrade from FF7 and how materia and magic work in that game.

11 on sale4 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 4 “not sold” markets are read from the Steam price pass of Sep 8: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price in those. The 11 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

FF8 is the black sheep of the series, and for a good reason. The junction system is a mess, You are being punished for leveling, Magic is consumable for some reason? I can keep going on and on. But despite all that, I still think this is a solid entry overall, the story, the characters, the romance, the card game. Ironically , 8/10
Im tired an over 40 was a great game in 1999 and is still fun to run challanges and try for 100%. its got some great little gems of story and of course the best card mini game Triple Triad.
I've played through and have beat this game before on another platform already, so don't let my short playtime fool you. However, the reason I wanted to get it again was to not only to re-experience it on PC with mods, but more importantly, write this review: Of all the entries in this legendary franchise, Final Fantasy VIII is one of my all-time favorites, and is also a game that I'll forever cherish and hold dear to me in my heart. Yes, it has flaws; what with its big melting pot of many ambitious and dramatic ideas, which shaped and affected its overall narrative and game design. Yes, I wish I could try Balamb Garden's cafeteria hot dogs. Yes, I'd argue it deserves a lot of the criticism(s) it received then and now. But... I'll be damned if I told you that this journey of magic and monsters, youth and change, and fate and romance (one that gracefully weaves itself through time and space) didn't make me awe, laugh, and cry as the SeeDs blossomed into something beautiful beyond their Gardens. If you ever give this game a go, steel yourself and your GunBlade for a date with destiny, one that's not gonna end on just a kiss.
criminally underrated classic
It's an okay game. stuck in-between 7 a masterpiece and 9 another masterpiece.
Triple Triad is ♥♥♥♥ and Square should be ashamed that they came up with a card game this bad. Complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the second they add any extra rules. Edit: The game itself is fine I guess. Story doesn't really make sense at times, but it was alright. Gameplay is questionable because they want you to waste a load of time drawing magic from enemies to get stronger instead of just leveling up. Characters besides Squall and Rinona are kinda just there.
most misreable 100% ever but at least the game is good
This version is way better than the 2019 remaster. Just grab FFNX and the PS1 music mod for it, both are easy to install. FF8 is a good game. I play/replay it because it's comfy and the music is fantastic. You don't have to grind levels, just draw magic - which you can bypass with a card game. The story is cheesy: you have to remember that it's basically supposed to be a high school drama, and that the moments between Squall and Rinoa are supposed to be funny.
